THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

This past week I experienced two milestones in my
life; I turned fifty and celebrated my 28
th
wedding
anniversary with Kim. Both of which are hard to
believe. Life has a tendency to move along rapidly. I
am glad we get to do life together. I want to thank
all those who helped me celebrate my birthday. It
meant a lot to me that you took time to share in this
moment. Thank you for your gifts and words of
encouragement.

During our study, we will look at clusters of specific
acceptable sins that we tend to tolerate. Our goal:
To move us beyond what we accept in ourselves so
that we can become holy & righteous individuals
covered by Gods grace.
Each participant will need to bring a Bible each week,
along with a copy of the book, Respectable Sins.
These books have already been ordered and
you can pick up your copy from Brad. The cost
of the book is $14.
Allow me to leave you with this thought today. As I
was reading in Philemon this morning, these words
jumped off the page. Philemon 1:4-7 says, I always
thank my God as I remember you in my prayers,
because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and
your love for all the saints. I pray that you may be
active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full
understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.
Your love has given me great joy and encouragement,
because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of
the saints.
May we make it our goal, that these words would be
said of us.
In His Service,
Brad
BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

KEENAGERS TRIP IN AUGUST: Our
August excursion takes place on August
27. On that date we will be visiting the
David Warther Museum. David Warther is
a fifth generation carver. His grandfathers
collection of train carvings is housed in
New Philadelphia. David is a carver of
boats and his exhibit is called The History
of Ships (in ivory and ebony wood). We
will lunch at Dutch Valley but there will be
time to visit their antique shop. Following
our viewing of the exhibit, there should be
time for a stop by one of our favorite
cheese shops. Our departure time is 8:30
am. The cost for transportation and
admission is $15. A sign-up sheet is
posted. Get your name on and your money
in!

NEW HORI ZONS RETREAT: This
annual event is held at the North Terrace
Church of Christ, in Zanesville. This is a
single day event which is planned just for
seniors. Our hosts provide a continental
breakfast, lunch and an excellent program.
The registration fee is $25. A sign-up
sheet and registration forms may be found
on our main bulletin board. Complete a
form and pass it, along with your fee, to
me, for mailing. (I have forwarded 10
registrations, so far.)

MI DWEEK BI BLE STUDI ES: Our two
study groups (10am & 6:30pm) will
resume on September 10. At that time we
will return to the study, A Brief Survey of
Old Testament History, which was
disrupted last fall. We will, in fact, start
from the beginning.

FI NAL THOUGHT: Todays mighty oak
is merely yesterdays little nut that
managed to hold its ground.

Beginning September 10th, a
new Life Group will be offered
on Wednesday nights at 6:15. It
is entitled: Respectable Sins.
Author Jerry Bridges will truly
challenge us to have a proper
perspective on our sins. It will make
you question why it is we have
become so preoccupied with the
major sins of society while we have
lost sight of our need to deal with
our own subtle sins.

Your leaders are concerned about the personal safety and
wellbeing of all who attend our services. Therefore, over the
coming weeks, we will be seeking to upgrade our security.
This will involve asking those who attend Sunday School to use
only the Fifth Avenue street level entrance and the handicap
ramp. These doors will be locked at about 10:15am (after
worship has begun) and all traffic will then be directed
through our front Fifth Avenue entrance. This will make the
task of our security people much easier and more efficient.

A nominating committee, for church officers for 2015,
has been appointed. If you have suggestions for any
candidate you may pass them to Fred Griffith, Beverly
Puckett, Carol Craft, Tim Huffman, or Bob Neff.
"A shroud of secrecy cloaks a new nineteenth-century sect
known simply as "the Saints." But that veil is about to be
drawn away. Amidst the majestic beauty of 1857 Utah, the
members of one secluded religious group claim to want
nothing more than to practice their beliefs without
persecution. Yet among them are many who engage in
secret vows and brutal acts of atonement, all in the name
of God.

But one young woman, Hannah McClary, dares to question
the truth behind the shroud. Soon Hannah and the young
man she loves, Lucas Knight, who has been trained from
childhood to kill on behalf of the Church, find themselves
fighting for their very lives.

As a group of unwary pioneer families march into Utah
toward a tragic confrontation with the Saints at a place
called Mountain Meadows, Hannah and Lucas are thrust
into the most difficult conflict of all--a battle for truth and
justice, even as they are learning for the first time about
unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness."

Core Values...

Values central to the life, mission and
vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our
music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-
based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our
authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance
Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony &
live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity
of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism,
proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-
Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry
After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to
find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to
serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His
church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of
Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks
a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other
words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change
your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical
marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah
56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).

OUR PURPOSE

WE EXIST TO

Exalt Gods Greatness;
Evangelize Gods Work
Equip Gods People
Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ

OUR MISSION
To Love God and Love
People!
How Can I Respond Today?
At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all
issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear
concerning what a person must do to become a
Christian.
Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation.
Turn (repent) from the sin in your life.
Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord
of your life.
Be baptized (immersed) in water for the
forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy
Spirit into your life.
To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you
come forward during our commitment song at the
conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers
are welcome to become members at FACC by coming
forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior
Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you
complete a series of Curious classes to help you
better understand what you are committing to as a
member. If you would like to take a Curious class,
please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.
