Overnight, a few reactions/suggestions were received andbecause one has time-value [reprinted @ the bottom]they are now disseminated; one full-length/must-read article is provided because it seems to have elucidated all key-arguments regarding the potential demise of ObamaDontCare. As has now seemingly become routine, what had been envisioned to become a terse summary of selected points has ballooned into a more in-depth analysis of Israel/Gaza, Politics, Corbett, and ObamaDontCare. [Because of the length of this Blast e-mail, it is being conveyed in two parts, with the first focused on what is transpiring in the Middle East; Israels plight (military, diplomatic, etc.) is being managed well, but the multi-layered challenges being faced-down must be parsed-out so that they can be understood.
Israel/Gaza
I feel the decision by the FAA [channeling pressure from BHO/Kerry] to stop flights to Ben Gurion Airport will redound to Israels benefit, for it will increase internal pressure to demilitarize Gaza; any purported cease-fire that allows for continued rocket-fire [it could be argued] would risk another shutdown and, thus wouldnt be permissible. [Israel will Open International Airport near Eilat in Response to Flight Cancellations.] Jim Geraghty noted that this constitutes a Sudden De-Facto Travel Ban on Israel [noting that Cruise ships are altering their courses and canceling stops in Israel, concluding This sure feels like a backdoor way to pressure Israel to accept a ceasefire on terms it doesn't like. In any case, despite this effort to isolate Israel [c/w the BDS Movement], Israeli airline El Al is still flying, and a guy most folks on the right don't like very much is taking a bold stand:
Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg is heading to Israel Tuesday night, flying on El Al in a show of unity with the Jewish state "and to demonstrate that it is safe to fly in and out of Israel. Ben Gurion is the best protected airport in the world and El Al flights have been regularly flying in and out of it safely. The U.S. flight restrictions are a mistake that hands Hamas an undeserved victory and should be lifted immediately. I strongly urge the FAA to reverse course and permit US airlines to fly to Israel.
It seems Israel is winning on the ground because Israel is getting tough [e.g., a military official said IDF dropped 120 bombs on Saja'yya, location of an entire Hamas battalion] while showing overwhelming restraint; although a US intelligence source claimed Hamas has many more tunnels than Israel says, it seems that Obama is coming to the rescue of Hamas, noting that his National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said Israel 'Can Do More' to Avoid Civilian Deaths. Overall, BHO may not want Israel to achieve these ends, lest seeking/achieving overt military-victory be invoked to motivate him to fight Islamists elsewhere. {Also note that, although the UK Ambassador to Israel Blamed Hamas for Gaza War, a British MP, under fire after tweeting that he would shoot rockets at Israel, will be treated by the Liberal Democrat party as a disciplinary issue.}
According to Hamas top terrorist Ismail Haniyeh, the terror group will fight until the last drop of blood in its efforts to destroy Israel. We will continue the struggle until we liberate the land, Jerusalem, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and return the 'refugees' to their 1948
homes. He said Hamas has a long-list of cease-fire demands, including: an immediate end to Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza on land, in the air, and by sea; an end to targeted elimination of Hamas terrorists; a cessation of the policy of destroying terrorists' houses; a halt to the flyovers by the Israel Air Force over Gaza; the reopening of land crossings, and the rehabilitation of the Gaza seaport; the free flow of goods into Gaza; a guaranteed supply of fuel and building materials; an end to collective punishment of Gazans; and continued supply of free-electricity.
As Hamas continues praising its human-shields *Dead Gaza civilians privileged to have died this way], Israel Can't Be Held Back by Hamas' Cynicism, for Israel's Response Is Proportionate to Hamas' Threat. This constitutes a A Fight for Israel's Existence and Israel has the Right of Self-Defense because Hamas Has to Be Disarmed. This is illustrated by the fact that Palestinian-Arab Rocket Fire at Israel Continued Tuesday, causing damage, extending both to Central Israel and to the Bedouin City of Rahat in Israel; Foreign Ambassadors were Forced to Run to a Bomb Shelter During Visit to Ashdod.
On MSNBC, Daily Beast reporter Eli Lake disparaged the idea that media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was pro-Israel on Ronan Farrow Daily, after a rant by MSNBC contributor Rula Jebreal where she complained Palestinian voices didnt receive equal airtime on the network. {One reader disagreed on another plane, complaining that Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper (an Akiba/Barrack graduate) have not acquitted themselves to be fair/balanced when interviewing [for whatever reason(s)].}
The EU supports the continued existence of Hamas but claims "Terrorist Groups in Gaza Must Disarm."
Armed Palestinians Move Under Cover of Gaza Humanitarian Truce - Several of the hidden Hamas tunnels discovered by Israel in the past three days were found to lead back to Sejaiya in Gaza, which is 1-2 km. from the Israel frontier. Almost 10% of all rockets fired against Israel during this conflict are said to have come from there. The presence of militant fighters in Sejaiya became clear Sunday afternoon when, under the cover of a humanitarian truce, several armed Palestinians scurried from the scene. Some bore their weapons openly, slung over their shoulder, but at least two, disguised as women, were seen walking off with weapons partly concealed under their robes. Another wrapped his weapon in a baby blanket and held it as if it were a baby.

My having wondered-aloud why Israel hadnt previously bulldozed its way into finding the openings to Gazan tunnels [opening on Israeli turf] resonated with a reader: How did the Intelligence NOT know 1949
about any existence of these tunnels or activities surrounding them until this operation began? Could there be a "trader" embedded? Recalled was the fact that two prominent assassination victims were killed by "their own" [not an enemy]; Sadat was killed by Extreme-Islamists [Arab] and Rabin was killed by an extreme-Zionist [Jew]. Im not into conspiracy-theories, but the query persists. {Also note this compilation of Presidential Assassinations and Assassination Attempts.} Perhaps these pieces should help to explain what has transpired:
Israel Learning of Tunnels It Did Not Know About - Israeli casualties have caused great elation among Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The Israeli intelligence community believes this is fueling their intransigence over cease-fire negotiations. Uncovering the terrorist tunnel network is progressing more rapidly than expected, and intelligence gathered during the fighting in Gaza has led Israel to tunnels it did not know about. The IDF is learning things it did not know before about the structure of the tunnel system and the way the terrorist intended - and still intend - to operate them. Hamas is indeed showing increased resistance, but almost every encounter between combatants on both sides ends in heavy losses to the terrorists. Losses on Israel's side cause great grief among the Israeli public, which sees every soldier in Gaza as a member of the family. But unlike during the Second Lebanon War, there is also public perception that this sacrifice is not in vain and that the war is justified.
Hamas' Attack Tunnels: Initial Implications - Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister, delivered a revealing speech on March 23, 2014, in which he stressed the strategic importance of the Hamas attack tunnels, which, he argued, have changed the balance of power with Israel. Tunnel warfare provides armies facing a technologically superior adversary with an effective means for countering its air superiority. The tunnels from Gaza penetrate deep into Israeli territory. Hamas has accumulated a great deal of experience in using the tunnels for operational purposes. Since 2000, hundreds of tunnels have been dug along Gaza's border with Egypt, providing a lifeline for Hamas' military buildup. Based on Hizbullah's experience in the Second Lebanon War, and with the assistance and guidance of Iran, Hamas has also made use of the tunnels to build an underground network of missile launchers. The attack tunnels create a new equation in the power balance between Israel and Hamas. They give Hamas an ability to infiltrate Israel and carry out strategic attacks involving mass killing, along with an ability to launch missiles from locations concealed within civilian population centers.
Getting from Gaza to Israel, by Underground Tunnels - Tunnels from Gaza to Israel have had a powerful hold on the Israeli psyche since 2006 when Hamas militants used one to capture an Israel soldier, Gilad Shalit, who was held for five years before being released in a prisoner exchange. There have been several deadly clashes between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian militants emerging from tunnels on the Israeli side of the border.
The [mea-culpa] essay by Dershowitz [By Targeting Ben Gurion Airport, Has Hamas Ended the Prospects for a Two State Solution?] was published both by Gatestone and Algemeiner; my comment awaits moderation @ both sites. Meanwhile, my view of why Israel should not accept a cease-fire is shared:
The Road to a Cease-Fire Goes Through Cairo - On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri announced that he saw no reason to make any changes to his country's cease-fire proposal. Over the previous few days, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's 1950
advance team had tried to discuss alterations in the proposal's wording, but was met with an aggressive Egyptian refusal. Cairo doesn't intend to give Hamas any discounts - at least not at this stage. For now, it seems Egyptian President Sissi isn't too upset over the prospect of Israel continuing its military operation in Gaza.
Let Israel Decide: A Premature Gaza Cease-Fire Would Help Hamas - The reality is that a cease-fire now would help Hamas. Now that it has moved on the ground, Israel will lose if it stops before it achieves its main military objectives. This means blowing up the entire network of tunnels that Hamas uses to infiltrate into Israel and to smuggle weapons into Gaza from Egypt. It also means destroying the stockpiles of rockets and storage sites. The Israelis are best positioned to judge their progress, and the U.S. should publicly support its military response in a war it didn't start. Thi is what will bring the most rapid end to the violence.
If Israel Is Forced to End Gaza Ground Operation Prematurely, Arabs May Perceive Hamas as Winner, due to its successes in massive rocket firing towards most of Israel without suffering heavy casualties among its military-terrorist ranks or its political leaders. Hamas is wracked by internal divisions between military and political cadres, extremist and pragmatic politicians, and Gaza-based and external leaderships. Hamas' isolation in the regional context is greater than ever. Saudi Arabia and most of the Gulf countries support Egypt's fight against the Muslim Brotherhood and by extension against Hamas. Qatar, one of the main providers of funds to Hamas, is much more cautious since the advent of the young Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hama Al Thani and in light of the intense pressure by its powerful Gulf neighbors to cut off support for Brotherhood and jihadist forces in the region.
Of course, the rest of the Middle East remains unstable, as reticence to acknowledge the dangers of the efforts to create a worldwide Caliphate remains problematic:
Gloves have Come Off between Syrian Regime, Islamic State - The Islamic State (IS) now controls more than a third of Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The group's stunning victories in Iraq have been repeated in Syria. IS now controls nearly all of the oil-rich eastern province of Deir ez-Zor. After ousting its rival, the al-Qaeda-affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra, from the provincial capital, IS is now face to face with regime forces. The undeclared truce between the regime and IS seems to have run its course. The devastating assault by IS on the al-Shaer gas field in Homs on July 16 left up to 300 regime troops and civilian employees dead. Meanwhile, the Syrian regime has launched airstrikes on IS headquarters and training camps.
Iran Is Pushing Limits on Nuclear Deal, Former Obama Advisor Warns - Robert Einhorn, who was a special advisor on arms control at the State Department until May 2013, says the Iranians have been quietly extending what they claim they are entitled to on enrichment - what Einhorn calls "rights creep." Last year, the Obama administration publicly acknowledged for the first time that it could support Iran having a domestic enrichment program. But now Iran contends that it is entitled to produce enough enriched uranium to supply a huge nuclear power generation program by 2021. Instead of cutting back its capacity to a fraction of what it is today, as the West is now demanding, it wants to keep operating al the machines that are now producing; pursue 1951
unlimited research and development; limit the duration of the deal to eight years or less; and be free to expand to industrial scale once the deal lapses. If Iran sticks to these demands when talks resume, "it will ensure continued deadlock," Einhorn warned.
During the current rocket-war with fanatical Hamas in Gaza, Nancy Spielberg [Steven's sister] came to Israel to premiere Above and Beyond at the Jerusalem Film Festival, her film documentary on volunteer Jewish aviators who blazed a trial for the current generation of IAF pilots and crews. [IAF F-16 and drone remote pilots defending Israel are worthy successors to those Mahal pilots in the early days of the IAF from the UK, US, Rhodesia and South Africa who made a difference in the fledgling IAF 101 Squadron.] The best example of their ranks was Lou Lenart, a Hungarian Jew by origin and WWII Marine Fighter ace who stopped an Egyptian armored column from reaching Tel Aviv with a few well placed bombs; he is "the man who literally saved Tel Aviv" in Israel's War for Independence; the 94-year-old Lenart [who served as a US Marine in World War II and led the IAFs first mission on May 29, 1948] was also present. To follow are excerpts from an e-mailed essay about this film:
Three years ago, her knowledge of flying was mainly to do with how to return her seat to the upright position. But when she saw an obituary for Al Schwimmer, an American World War II veteran and flight engineer who has been called the godfather of the Israel Air Force, she was fascinated.
I thought, how did an American become the godfather of the Israel Air Force? she said. Spielberg, who had done promotional writing and had produced and worked on several documentaries [among them Elusive Justice: The Search for Nazi War Criminals] had one hesitation before she proceeded with plans to begin making Above and Beyond: It sounded like a Spielberg movie.
Once her brother, Steven, who had thought of making a movie on this topic at one point in the Nineties, gave her his blessing, she immersed herself in everything to do with the Machal, volunteers from abroad who helped the Israeli army during the War of Independence, particularly those who created the IAF.
I learned quickly, Im a sponge, she said. I learned a lot out of doing research, talking to these guys. At first when people talked about Messerschmitt, and an ME, and an ME 109, I didnt realize these were all the same thing....I read a lot of books. One of them that was very helpful was Ehud Yonays No Margin for Error, I learned a lot of tech air force jargon.
I got it, felt it, saw it, like I was watching Top Gun.
She went looking for a director and found Roberta Grossman, who had made a number of acclaimed documentaries, among them Hava Nagila and Blessed is the Match: The Life and Death of Hannah Senesh.
There was only one hitch. At first, Grossman wouldnt take her calls, which puzzled Spielberg.
Then she discovered another one of the perils of having a brother who is among the most famous directors on the planet. Roberta always told her assistant, If Spielberg 1952
calls, tell him Im busy. Once Grossman understood that it was Nancy Spielberg on the line, the director and producer starting work together and interviewed the surviving pilots. Spielberg also assembled the archival material she knew she would need for the film.
On this trip, Spielberg has been visiting her daughter, Jessica Jessy Katz, a contestant on The Voice, who lives in Tel Aviv, and noticed, People were standing outside trying to film the rockets as they fall. But back when the IAF was starting, Israel had no money for cameras. There wasnt time or energy to document what they were doing the way we do today.
But she did manage to find wonderful photos and even some live action footage, although she somewhat reluctantly supplemented this with carefully done recreations of some of the action.
One of the hardest parts of making the movie was deciding what I had to leave out. There were so many capers, so many stories, you cant include them all, she said.
There was no room for all the details of how Schwimmer actually created dummy companies in order to be allowed to buy planes, and how some of the pilots were arrested when US Treasury agents discovered that the planes were headed for Palestine.
In addition, There were certain basics that we have all been taught in the Jewish world, that I had to include so that it would hold up for a mainstream audience.
The film is headed for a theatrical run in 2015, and Spielberg hopes to make it widely available afterwards via DVD and live-streaming.
Next up for Spielberg: The feature film version of this story.
Thats a big switch for Spielberg, who has spent years distancing herself professionally from her brother, and is proud that she accepted no financial help from him for Above and Beyond and did her own fund raising. But she feels comfortable now working in filmmaking.
When the shoe fit, I put it on, she said.
Spielberg was happy to participate in the Jerusalem Film Festival, and not fazed by the current conflict.
Her daughter Jessy has been living in Israel for years, And its very hard to be apart in times like this... If I was in the US watching the rockets, Id be so scared. Spielberg was accompanied on this trip by her husband, Shimon Katz.
Their younger daughter, Melissa, is an accomplished equestrian.
I was happy Jessy was with me in Jerusalem *during a recent rocket attack+. Its not a 1953
situation to make light of, but in our family we deal with things like this with nervous laughter. In a tense moment, we let off some steam with a chuckle.

These are the domestic issues that arose overnight, focused on Politics and ObamaDontCare. Also, Corbetts struggles continue *PA SENATE LAWYERS UP OVER VETOES] as the Senate GOP leadership asked Corbett to Re-appoint Office of Open Records director Terry Mutchler; Im continuing to blog regarding how Corbett *and Rs+ can win. [Corbett appears to concur with my view that the pension crisis and property taxes are key campaign issues and Dermody is fuzzy on pension history.] Indeed, as Republicans ponder how to maximize the results of the mid-terms, they may wish to ponder Ten Reasons Why I Am No Longer a Leftist; regarding BHOs Scandal-Sheet, there has been a renewed hunt for Lois Lerners emails, although the IRS Commissioner said *amazingly+ Were Not Investigating The Missing Emails Right Now. Quietly, Big Tobacco just got bigger, as JOY BEHAR claimed PALIN SHOULD BE 'TURNING LETTERS OVER ON SOME GAME SHOW.' {Also, Two Ukrainian fighter jets were shot down over separatist territory not far from the site of the Malaysia Airlines crash, an attack the rebels took credit for but that Kiev said it believed came from Russian territory.}
Cheney said any attempt to impeach Obama would be distraction.
Regarding Illegals, Obamas Border Narrative percolating into the media *that it constitutes a sudden humanitarian crisis of unaccompanied child refugees] is Unraveling; the implication of their narrative is that this is akin to a natural disaster that requires an immediate increase in spending to treat the crisis, but now it appears that the entire narrative is based on falsehoods, for this immigrant invasion was planned and anticipated by the Obama administration as early as 2012. Even Senate Democrats want to trim Obamas border request by $1B, but Mitch McConnell wont say whether he backs Ted Cruzs push to attack Obamas deferred action policies on immigration; the Senate minority leader believes Cruz should get a vote on his proposal. Cruz (R-Texas) is urging Republicans to support a divisive effort that would prohibit any further expansion of Obamas Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, a program that shields some young undocumented immigrants from deportation. {Through it all, the NYT advocates GRANTING AMNESTY and CENTRAL AMERICAN PRESIDENTS WANT THEIR CHILDREN BACK.}
National Public Radio's Morning Edition aired an extraordinary story about U.S. Customs and Border Patrol on Friday. The story was not about the ongoing wave of illegal aliens from Central Americamany of them childrencrossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Rather, it was about the rules on when deadly force may be used by Border Patrol agents in the course of their duties, with a view to making it harder for them to do so.
Whereas Politico reported Perdue won Georgia Senate runoff without discussing Amnesty/Illegals and then suggested that Georgia could flip to the Dems in 2014; PERDUE PINNED PRO-AMNESTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SUPPORT ON LOSING OPPONENT for, in the days leading up to election day, he made a big push to tie the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's support for amnesty to Kingston, who had benefited from over $3 million dollars in campaign spending from the lobby group. {Senate Conservatives also touted the fact that Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) won the Republican primary runoff election for the 11 th
Congressional District in Georgia.}
Another issue separating the Establishment-GOP from the more conservative-Rs is the battle being waged by Bob Dole against home-schoolers on disabilities treaty. An 1955
international treaty on rights for people with disabilities [U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, adopted in 2006 and signed by Obama in 2009, modeled after the Americans with Disabilities Act] is intended to help guarantee that people with disabilities can access education, jobs, health care and other opportunities afforded to countries mainstream populations. It will either have no effect on American law or infringe on the rights of parents whose children have disabilities, threaten states rights and become a legal tool for pro-choice advocates pushing against restrictive abortion laws. The treaty now includes several recommended add-ons [called reservations, understandings or declarations] that would clarify that it couldnt affect American law. Therefore, if that be the case, then why pass it?
In addition to promoting Wolf [against Roberts] in Kansas, the Senate Conservatives are promoting Joe Carr [against Alexander] in Tennessee; Laura Ingraham said Lamar Alexander is aged and Out of Touch, comparing him to an old sweater that had become full of moths, with faded colors.
Democratic staffers whose bosses lose in November may be in for more bad news in January. Staffers leaving Capitol Hill as a result of a retirement or election loss will enter one of the tightest K Street labor markets in recent memory as firms of all sizes have struggled to gin up new business and keep existing clients amid several years of anemic growth and stalled legislation.
Regarding POTUS-16, Santorum and Dr. Ben Carson [who famously claimed the 2 nd Amendment should appplied differently in urban America when compared with the rest of the country] are Starting to Think About 2016 WH Runs, but far more ominous are activities of Rand Paul [Pentagon Official: Why Rand Pauls Ideas Scare Me, And Why They Should Scare You and Rand Paul Slams Voter ID: Its Offending People]. Regardless of these maneuvers, it is clear that Limbaugh Was Right regarding the need to oppose everything BHO wants, and some feel Krauthammer, Will, and Kristol Should Apologize.
Regarding the Media, DAVID GREGORY IS REPORTEDLY OUT AT 'MEET THE PRESS.'
Regarding ObamaDontCare, the White House [predictably] will Ignore Court Ruling and Keep Handing Out Subsidies; per Politico, Obamas court strategy [packing the D.C. Appellate Court] may help save Obamacare, although most commentators predict the issue will be faced next year by the SCOTUS. Although customarily biased, this piece by Politico elucidates the major forces-at-play currently:
Democrats still haven't learned Obamacare lesson
Memo to Democrats: This is what happens when you pass a law where you cant fix simple drafting errors. Within hours of each other, two federal courts reached exactly opposite conclusions Tuesday about whether the vague wording of Obamacare allows people to get subsidies through the federal health insurance exchange. One said, sorry, thats not what the law says. The other said, sure, they can get the subsidies the Obama administration has the power to do that. 1956
The conflicting rulings were another wake-up call for Democrats about the fragility of the health care law and a reminder that whenever they think a lawsuit is no threat to the law, its probably a threat to the law. Its all because of what most Democrats insist is a drafting error in the law, but its kind of a big one. The federal health insurance marketplace is now serving 36 states that couldnt or wouldnt set up their own exchanges. And now that the two courts have issued conflicting rulings, the odds are higher that the Supreme Court may have to settle the question once again putting the fate of a major part of the law before the high court. Theres no guarantee that the Supreme Court would take up the issue. But if it does, its not at all certain that the justices would allow the subsidies to keep flowing in the federal exchange. If it doesnt, that could jeopardize the coverage for more than 7.3 million low- and middle-income people who would need those subsidies to be able to afford Obamacare coverage. Yes, the court upheld most of Obamacare in 2012 but that was a different set of legal questions. The split decision in the courts Tuesday is the classic formula for a Supreme Court review, maybe on a fast track, said William Galston, a domestic policy expert at the Brookings Institution. Its a lesson, some health care experts say, in why President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats took their chances in 2010 when they passed the Affordable Care Act using a special procedure called budget reconciliation. That allowed the Senate to pass the bill with just 51 votes, because they couldnt get 60 votes after Republican Scott Brown was elected to fill Ted Kennedys Senate seat in Massachusetts. But it didnt allow Congress to fix simple wording mistakes in the law an earlier version of which had squeaked through the Senate with GOP support in late 2009. The rules allowed only limited changes with a clear budget impact. Its a bit like the college student who slaps together a rough draft of a term paper, expecting to clean it up before its handed in, only to find suddenly time is up. The sloppy language stayed and it came back to bite the Democrats on Tuesday. When you pass a bill by any means necessary, you can fix a lot, but you cant fix everything, said Thomas Miller, a health care expert at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. The staff writes it late at night. Its never reconciled and they say, Oh well, well fix it after its passed. The Obama administration and congressional Democrats insist they still have the stronger legal hand in the long run. We are confident in the legal position that we have, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said during a briefing after the first ruling. It is pretty obvious what the congressional intent was. Supporters of the ACA from academics and legal experts to Democrats on Capitol Hill have long downplayed the laws legal challenges, accusing the plaintiffs of trying to kill the law for partisan reasons. But some of those challenges have been successful. The 1957
most vivid example was the Supreme Courts Hobby Lobby decision last month, when the high court ruled that the administration overreached by mandating that most employers provide contraception even if they had religious objections. And in 2012, the court ruled the laws Medicaid expansion had to be optional for states. But in that same decision the Supreme Court did uphold the individual mandate a victory that makes the laws supporters confident that the subsidies will survive, too. The full law was put before the Supreme Court, and the law stood, said Tony Carrk, director of the Health Care War Room at the liberal Center for American Progress Action Fund. The latest legal threat to Obamacare comes from a basic mistake in the wording that 2009 drafting error. The law encourages states to set up their own health insurance marketplaces, but it also creates a federal marketplace as a fallback. Yet the section on health insurance subsidies says they can be paid to anyone who signs up for coverage in an Exchange established by the State. It doesnt say anything about the federal exchange. Oops. Democratic leaders insisted in a legal brief that the point always was to make the subsidies available in all exchanges, not just the state ones. But the opponents of the law say it was much more than a drafting error. They say that the laws crafters purposely made subsidies available only in the state-run exchanges to encourage states to set them up. Besides, they said, the IRS cant just change the law. Until Tuesday, most supporters of the ACA dismissed the possibility that the wording presented any real legal threat. Congress obviously meant to include the federal exchange, they said, and thats how the courts will see it. But then, the three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled 2- 1 that the law has to be read literally. Its not our job, the judges wrote, to go beyond the clear wording of the law and guess about congressional intent. This limited role serves democratic interests by ensuring that policy is made by elected, politically accountable representatives, not by appointed, life-tenured judges, Judge Thomas Griffith wrote in the opinion. Hours later, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals came to the opposite conclusion. It wasnt exactly a ringing endorsement of the language, and there was no declaration that this is clearly what Congress meant. The wording was sloppy, the court wrote, even self- contradictory and ambiguous. But they said Supreme Court precedent says that the federal agencies have significant deference when crafting rules so the IRS decision was valid. Simply put, the statute is ambiguous and subject to at least two different interpretations, the judges wrote. Confronted with the Acts ambiguity, the IRS crafted a rule ensuring the credits broad availability and furthering the goals of the law. 1958
That ruling gave Democrats just enough cover to predict with confidence that the subsidies will be fine and blast Republicans for continually trying to kill a health care law thats already covering millions of people and lowering the rate of uninsured Americans. The American people deserve better than Republicans lawsuits and legislative nihilism. We are confident that as these cases advance, the plaintiffs obviously false interpretation of the law will be exposed as the baseless and desperate Republican distraction that it is, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement. Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, whos leading his partys Obamacare messaging in the Senate, tweeted a dismissive reaction. Weve seen this play before. Outlier lower court dents #ACA, higher courts correct. Fed. exchange subsidies will be upheld. But Republicans insisted that the Democrats brought the mess upon themselves by using a partisan process and skirting House-Senate negotiations in which language problems are typically worked out. If the governments position *that Congress intended to have subsidies go to all states+ was right, this should have been sorted out in the conference between the House and the Senate, said Tevi Troy, a former deputy secretary of Health and Human Services during the George W. Bush administration. For now, the subsidies arent going to screech to a halt. Theyll continue for everyone who has signed up this year. The Obama administration plans to seek a ruling from the full D.C. appeals court, and Democrats predict the full court will uphold their reading of the law. Theyre already dismissing the ruling because it was written by two Republican- appointed judges. I believe it will be appealed to the full D.C. circuit court and will lose there. Two other [courts] have turned thumbs-down to similar suits, and I expect the D.C. court will do the same, said John McDonough, a health care expert at Harvard who helped write the law as a Democratic Senate staffer in 2010. AEIs Miller isnt so sure. Its uphill *for the other judges+ to say, Well, we disagree with you because we were appointed by Democrats, he said. But the real issue, health care experts say, is what happens if the dispute eventually reaches the Supreme Court. That could be more perilous for the law given the courts conservative majority. And if the subsidies do eventually lose in the high court, Obamacare opponents say, thats no ones fault but the laws authors. If people lose those subsidies, it is because the courts have ruled that those subsidies are and always have been unlawful, said Michael Cannon, who is director of health policy studies at the Cato Institute and strongly backed the lawsuit in amicus briefs. The issue also has serious implications for Obamacares employer mandate an unpopular piece of the law that has proved troublesome for the administration. The 1959
mandate is triggered only when a companys employees go to the exchange to get subsidies. So if a person cannot get subsidies, there is really no mandate and no fine on the employers. And if the subsidies are ultimately struck down, it would also cripple the individual mandate. In a brief filed with the D.C. court, several economists who support the law wrote that if subsidies couldnt go to federal exchange states, insurance would be unaffordable for 99 percent of the people who qualify for subsidies today. That means they would be exempt from the individual mandate because coverage was unaffordable under the ACA. So the individual mandate would still be on the books, it would still operate in those states, but far more people would be exempt from penalties in those states, said Cannon.

IMPORTANT: This video is not anti-Semitic. It is anti-Zionist. If you don't know the difference, then you are a part of the problem, not the solution. Look past the messenger. The proof I speak of is in the news reports shown in this video, not the word of the narrator. This video reveals who the real terrorists are. The traitors in our government support this because they are paid off by AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee), the Zionist Israel Political Action Committee in Washington. Most of our politicians in Washington sign an agreement of allegiance with AIPAC in order to receive the bribes and the money they pay out to support their re-election campaigns. These politicians are clearly traitors and terrorists, and have repeatedly sold out American lives in staged terror attacks and unconstitutional, immoral and genocidal wars for their own political gain. And they continue to support acts of terrorism and treason. They will take us into World War 3 with Israel unless we stop them now! Support Ron Paul! He is the only candidate in the race for the presidency who is not bought off by the terrorists.
Then note that Cruz vowed to hold nominees until he gets answers on Israeli flight ban, inasmuch as he fears the unprecedented FAA-decision was triggered by BHO.

This summarizes, primarily, the three conference-calls regarding Israels invasion of Gaza; also included is a time-line that provides raw-data reflecting the exigencies of this war and my personalized four-part take on the forces at-play [A view from the PMO in Jerusalem]. My views are c/w those of John Boltons Gatestone Institute [There Must Not Be a Ceasefire and War "Statistics": The New York Times Deceives Again]; the bottom-line point is that BBs activities must be supported, fully-recognizing that BHOs support for the Muslim Brotherhood constitutes the theme of all his *mis-]behavior patterns.
In conjunction with concern regarding the coat-tails of the PA-gubernatorial race, note that Minority Leader Costa said Dems can take state Senate if Wolf expands lead over Corbett, a point I have been incessantly making for two years and that prompts me until Corbett holds a PSU-themed endless press-conferenceto hope still that Cawley might supplant Corbett. For what its worth, I fervently want Corbett to win (noting emergence of Wolfs tax-and-spend policies and Corbetts anti-Pension Bomb forthrightness) but, channeling Guzzardi (I suppose), one must impose tough-love.
First, a few political observations are provided, tethered to key-issues previously explored extensively; personal priorities remain focused on two items of unfinished business *Temple Us Lerro (no one called-back, not surprisicngly) and starting a Log Cabin Republican Chapter in PA (officers have emerged and model-bylaws have been obtained, but organizational logistics pend)]. Many of the domestic-issues are highlighted during the weekly Heritage-Action Sentinel call *which some consider to be dry but upon which news-gluttons such as myself routinely feast+, inasmuch as they reflect whats happening behind the scenes; such behavior is more revealing than that which might be highlighted on newscasts for [in particular] the true-conservatives reveal themselves as RINOs open themselves to be discredited.
It is desirable, at the onset, to cite Dinesh DSouzas book *America], three weeks after having distilled the first five chapters thereof and one week after having distilled three subsequent chapters thereof. Chapter 9 depicts the decline of racism [as MLK, Jr. appealed not for new rights but for the enforcement of rights already granted in 1776], Chapter 10 explains why the value of prosperity [derived from its underlying merit] extends to the collective, and Chapter 11 undermines the claim of exploitation by noting the existence of mutual-consent. [The photos between Chapters 10/11 serve to remind the reader of what he had, by now, presumably seen in the Documentary.]

Letter-to-the-Editor [probably to the Inqy, noting authorship of the article that provoked it]:
To the editor,
For years we have been told that support for Israel limited American influence in the Middle East. But the current conflict has been different. Major Arab states, including Egypt have recognized Hamas for what it is, a terrorist organization that is the Palestinian version of the Islamists spreading hate throughout the region, political siblings of those now persecuting Mosuls Christians, and threatening Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other relatively moderate Arab states. These neighbors have 1968
recognized Hamas for the danger it represents, withholding the usual reflexive support.
It is painful to watch the destruction of civilian lives in the Gaza fortress that Hamas built in and under homes, schools and hospitals, just as it is painful to see selective outrage over the death and destruction in Gaza that is but a fraction of the carnage in Syria, Iraq, and elsewhere in the Middle East. The effort Israel has made to minimize the loss of civilian lives is unique in the annals of warfare, while Hamas has literally poured billions of dollars in aid and many hundreds of thousands of tons of concrete into the ground to build bunkers, rocket launching sites, and 80 foot deep tunnels that have only one purpose, to facilitate attacks on Israels Jews. Arab recognition of Hamas and its credo as an existential threat to the future of not just Israel but to the Palestinians, the region and even the Western world is fortunate, not a problem as the Inquirer suggests.

As Hamas looks on Egypt with suspicion, U.S. limited July 24, 2014
By Nancy A. Youssef McCLATCHY NEWSPAPERS
WASHINGTON To understand the reluctance of Hamas to accept a cease-fire plan mediated by Egypt, one needs look no further than the coverage Egypts state-owned news media offers of the conflict.
Azza Sami, a writer for the government-owned al Ahram newspaper, took to Twitter to thank Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his campaign in Gaza. Thank you Netanyahu, and God give us more men like you to destroy Hamas! the tweet read.
Another columnist wrote he could not support Gazans since they had voted for Hamas.
The Egyptian medias attacks on Hamas highlight amajor change in Mideast politics that has limited U.S. influence in the conflict: The Egyptian government of Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi is virulently anti-Hamas, and Hamas does not trust it.
That hasnt stopped Secretary of State John Kerry from using Egypts proposal as a template for a cease-fire arrangement. On Wednesday, Kerry left Cairo for Jerusalem to keep pushing for a deal even after Hamas rejected it and Egypt declined to alter its terms.
Kerry is trying to light the fuse to solve the problem, said Jon Alterman, director of the Middle East Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington research center.
1969
Egypts standing with Hamas is a turnaround from the role it played in 2012, when Israel and Hamas last came to blows. At that time, Egypts president was Mohammed Morsi, a longtime figure in the Muslim Brotherhood, the secretive Islamist society that had close ties with Hamas.
Last week, Egypt presented a cease-fire deal that was similar to the 2012 deal. But while the deal was endorsed by the Arab League and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Hamas called it effectively a surrender that met none of its demands.
The triad of hour-long webinars focused on Israel [and not Iran, for example]; information gleaned therefrom emphasizes the fact that Hamas has fired 2100 rockets @ 70% of population [from Haifa to Eilat], which remains in shelters. Israel has found 30 tunnels thus far, although they have not all yet been destroyed. Body-counts are often unreliable, so it is simply desirable to note 800 Palestinian-Arabs were killed, of whom appear to be aligned with Hamas. Already destroyed is the domestic missile production capacity; the total has been attenuated from 9K by 2K [although guestimates may be unreliable], thus far. Thus, the UN Charter justifies defense.
The goal remains to achieve quiet, not necessarily to destroy Hamas or occupy the entire Strip; the latter may occur in the future, but it would take as long as a year [high casualties, fighting in populated areas, etc.] The triad of sub-goals includes: [1]No Hamas infiltration via tunnels, while using the Iron Dome; [2]Intelligence to ID the Hamas infrastructure; and [3]destroy network of bunkers in Gaza perimeter (following-up Egypts historically-supportive efforts) to allow the IDF to have easy-entry.
Thus, the plan is to reassess key-data after noting what is accomplished, over time. Therefore, this effort will be as extensive as is needed to end 14 years of almost-daily attacks. It is not a right/left political football, for mayors and people concur; the IDF must bring peace and quiet to the south [and, as has now been witnessed, to the entire country]. This is why people will sit in shelters for as long as it is necessary; also recognized with appreciation by L.A. Consul-General David Siegel are the morale- boosting rallies that have been held in multiple US cities.

LIVE BLOG: Israel's Operation Protective Edge in Gaza [excerpts]
Thursday, July 24
4:00 p.m. Europe's Aviation Safety Agency, which had issued a "strong recommendation" against flights to Tel Aviv, retracted its warning on flights to and from Israel.
3:40 p.m. Binyamin Netanyahu spoke at the Knesset at a cabinet meeting, saying Israel is continuing its operation in Gaza in full force from the ground and the air. He opened his remarks by saying the IDF has delivered a powerful blow to the Hamas infrastructure. "We are continuing the operation in full strength," he said, adding that the IDF was making big gains in Gaza. "In the past day, we have worked to overturn the FAA ban on flights to and from Israel, and that has gained fruit." He went on to discuss the fallen soldiers: "In the name of all the people of Israel, I express deep condolences to the families, the fathers and mothers, of our soldiers that have died protecting our country."
2:08 p.m. The Egyptian army thwarted an attack against Israel on Wednesday night, killing a suicide bomber who ran towards the border near Kerem Shalom, Egyptian military sources said. The Egyptian sources told the Palestinian Ma'an News Agency in a report published Thursday that the suicide bomber carried an explosive device as well as wearing an explosive belt on his body. The sources also said that the army destroyed a vehicle loaded with Grad rockets before they were fired at Israel. The attack on the vehicle killed two individuals, taking place in the north Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweid near the border with the Gaza Strip.
2:00 p.m. Rocket sirens went on in Ashdod, Ashkelon, Hof Ashkelon, Kiryat Gat and Kiryat Malachi.
12:40 p.m. Turkey is working with international partners to negotiate both a cease-fire in the Gaza conflict and access for humanitarian aid, the Turkish foreign minister said on Thursday. "The US, Turkey, Qatar and Egypt have been working for the last five days to ensure an immediate cease-fire," Ahmet Davutoglu said in an interview with Turkish broadcaster AHaber, adding Turkey was in constant contact with Palestinian leaders.
12:29 p.m. Rocket sirens heard in Ashkelon, Netivot and communities near Gaza.

11:30 a.m. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke with British Foreign Secretary Phillip Hammond on Thursday where he expressed regret for the heavy civilian casualties in Gaza but insisted that the IDF is doing its utmost to prevent such casualties. The PM also added that nothing would prevent Israel from continuing to protect its people from Hamas tunnels which "penetrate our country." 1971
11:22 a.m. Sirens sound in central Israel and the Sharon region for second time in minutes. Iron Dome intercepts 6 rockets.
11:05 a.m. Rocket alert sirens sound in Kfar Saba and Petah Tikva.

10:46 a.m. Brazil on Thursday recalled its ambassador to Israel for consultations in protest over the IDF's operation in the Gaza Strip. A statement put out by the Brazilian foreign ministry said that Brazil considers escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine as unacceptable. We strongly condemn the disproportionate use of force by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
8:30 a.m. The IDF took some 150 Hamas terrorists prisoner after they surrendered in last night's offensive on the neighborhoods of Khan Younis and Rafah in the Gaza Strip. The prisoners will be transferred to the Shin Bet for questioning regarding the movements and operations of Hamas in Gaza.
8:02 a.m. Rocket sirens activated in Gaza frontier towns.
7:05 a.m. The FAA lifts its flight ban to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport after reassurances from the Israeli government of new security measures put in place.
6:27 a.m. The IAF struck over 30 terror sites in Gaza overnight, says Army Radio.
6:11 a.m. Palestinian youths in Bethlehem clashed overnight between Wednesday and Thursday with Palestinian security forces and Israeli military, showing solidarity as fighting continued to rage in Gaza, displacing thousands more Palestinians in the battered territory.
Palestinian riot police were seen trying to prevent youths from getting near Israeli soldiers but eventually moved aside as scores of youths streamed into the streets throwing stones and firebombs at Israeli soldiers, who responded with tear gas and skunk water fired from a cannon.
4:41 a.m. Palestinian health authorities reported that 18 people were killed in IDF operations in the last few hours, according to AFP. The health officials said the Palestinian death toll in Operation Protective Edge had reached 714.

1:53 a.m. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon "expresses his outrage and regret at the 1972
placing of weapons in a U.N.-administered school," a United Nations statement said. UNRWA is sheltering 102,000 people in 69 of its schools amid the renewed violence. "By doing so, those responsible are turning schools into potential military targets, and endangering the lives of innocent children, UN employees working in such facilities and anyone using the UN schools as shelter," the statement said. {Remember, the rockets were then returned to Hamas.}

The disappointment should properly be with the rascals in government not the overall system. On a personal level and I believe you and I agree, there are too many anti-American bastards running things at all levels and unfortunately too few saints who grasp the American essence..
In plainer language, people like Reid, Pelosi, Obama and Rahm Emanual, are problems. So are to a lesser extent, Boehner and a few Rs.
Re Torture. America didnt torture. Rendition wasnt exactly the right solution either but known terrorists have information thats dangerous to Americans. It seems like a moral cusp but being practical what other way was there?
Islam in dangerous because its basis is irrational on many levels but without opening up the fundamental arguments its practical to devise and implement solutions like the invasion of Gaza. Israel probably knows it can easily defend itself when the bad ones are concentrated and Gaza is where to do it. Yes, Israel gave up territory but its simply providing the land for a prison.
Anyhow, until a more perfect system comes along, America is the best solution.

Secretary of State John Kerry attended the funeral of 24-year old Max Steinberg. Though an American citizen from Woodland Hills, Steinberg joined the Israeli Defense Forces. He died in the line of duty.
According to the Jewish Journal, Steinberg decided to join the Israeli Defense Forces on a birthright trip to Israel in 2012. There, he saw the grave of Michael Levin, an American who also served the IDF and lost his life in duty.
The funeral was quite emotional as the parents grieved the loss of their young son. In Jewish culture, however, this was just the beginning. Following the funeral, the family enters into shiva, a weeklong mourning period in a Jewish mourning tent. As Kerry approached the family in the shiva to pay his respects, he asked Evie Steinberg, the grieving mother, a question.
Kerry asked, Hows your day? Mrs. Steinberg replied, Hows your day? My days going better than yours, he said.
He followed those remarks by saying, I am so honored to be here. I am in awe of your son, truly. And I think you know, I served in the military, and I have great respect for anybody who especially puts themself willingly in harms way. And as an American, were so proud of the affection that he felt, just the love he felt, and the roots he found in this country.

Israel Prepares to Escalate Gaza Offensive The Next Stage in the Gaza War Israel's Operation Protective Edge has been a gradual effort designed to extinguish Palestinian mass rocket attacks through a carefully planned deterioration of Hamas' strategic position. Hamas has had opportunities before each stage to opt for a truce and signal that it is serious about enforcing a calm border. But Hamas' leadership decided to continue to confront Israel. In the next phase, the IDF will be instructed to attack and destroy Hamas' military assets all over Gaza. No Signs of Imminent Truce, as Netanyahu Signals Hamas Demands Are Unrealistic - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is saying publicly that Operation Protective Edge is continuing in full force, and privately that Hamas' conditions for a cease-fire are a non-starter. "As long as Hamas has closed the door to the cease-fire, the other [military] option will be pursued vigorously," one Israeli official said. He noted that compared to Israel's previous military operations over the past decade, there is much less pressure on Israel from abroad - especially from the Arab world. Israeli Communications Minister Gilad Erdan, a member of the security cabinet, said Israel's key goal is to ensure Gaza has been Demilitarized at the end of the conflict, "otherwise what would have been the point?" Israel is not seeking a cease-fire with Hamas at present because the IDF first needs to complete its ground offensive, with its focus on finding and destroying Hamas' network of cross-border tunnels. Dealing with the tunnels "will take another week or two" and, after that, if Hamas was still firing rockets, Israel would have to decide whether to send the army deeper into Gaza to find the Hamas leadership "hiding in its holes." "The president of Honduras lacks pride and wont fix the problem in his own country because he looks at BHOs America as a Giant Bank." "Liberals demand tolerance for whatever they do and think, but they do not tolerate anybody who disagrees." "Well, ladies and gentlemen, the Israeli and Palestinian, slash, Hamas conflict has just reached a new level of seriousness with the low-information voters finally getting clued in. There is now a hashtag on Twitter. Can the end of this war be far behind?" "The Palestinians, Hamas, you name it, are modern-day Nazis where Jews are concerned. They are the current incarnation of Adolf Hitler. It is their total hatred for Jews and their anti-Semitism that defines their existence. That's the root of the problem!" "I've always asked myself, "Why do we not just let Israel win?" What is wrong with this? They are our ally. They don't seek to eliminate all Arabs from the face of the earth. They don't seek to march every Arab they can find into the Mediterranean. They don't seek to bomb every Arabian capital off of the map. That is the objective of their enemies, though, where the Jews are concerned." "We dropped those bombs on Japan to show the rest of the world the power we had. It was a message of 'don't mess with us. You can only take us so far, and then we have this capability,' and they haven't been used since." "This is the Excellence in Broadcasting Network. Your quest for truth begins and ends here." "Yes, ladies and gentlemen, a hashtag. #JewsAndArabsRefuseToBeEnemies is the new hashtag, and, as such, we can expect peace to break out any moment." 1979
"To understand this administration's lack of support for Israel all you have to do is take a look at the Middle East and try to find who a leftist would think the victims are. Because the victims are always what dominate everything. The victims are on whom and around whom policy will be based." "People ask me frequently at five minutes before showtime, 'What are you going to lead with today?' It happened yesterday, I got a note: 'What are you going to lead with?' 'I don't know yet.'" "For many people social media is the only thing that gives their lives meaning. They have some measure of fame, they think, because they have followers, or they have friends or what have you, or they have people that retweet them." "My point is that Obama's actions tell us exactly who he is: $47 million, not to the Gaza Strip, to the Palestinian Authority." "War is not clean. I've always thought that this phrase 'war crimes' is kind of redundant. What Hamas is doing is criminal already." "Never mind the fact that Palestinian and Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood, you name it -- militant Jihadist leaders -- were trained, they were collaborated with by the Nazis. They held something in common: The hatred of the Jews. The Nazis aligned, back in the thirties and forties, with anti-Jewish interests in the Middle East. There is no solution to this problem." "Peace to the Israelis is what peace is to you and me: The absence of war, the absence of conflict, the absence of threat, and the presence of justice. That's what the Israelis seek. It's not what the Palestinians seek." "I love this country; I want everybody to. I'm very proud of this country; I wish everybody was. I appreciate being born in this country; I wish everybody did. I, of course, am trying to spread that word." "The head of the IRS, that would be the commissioner John Koskinen -- the guy looks like a cross between a turtle and a lizard. I have both in the backyard, so I know what I'm talking about." "Do you know the Israelis are actually texting and calling Palestinians in Gaza in advance of launching response attacks, saying, 'Look, we're firing. If you're civilian, get the hell out of the area 'cause we have a couple rockets we're launching here in 10 minutes.' Nobody does this!" "As many of you know, I am, compared to average consumers, an expert when it comes to tech. I would be considered, by average users, to be a power user. I'm actually not, but compared to average users, I am. And I know about hard drives." "Obama has sent a team of 'experts' to the Texas-Mexico border to assess whether there is any need for Governor Rick Perry to send the National Guard down there. I'm not kidding. Obama's still not sure that there's any problem on the border!" 1980
"It's easier to let somebody go steal something and give it to you than work for it yourself in some people. That's the kind of thing I would like to counter." "We don't need bipartisanship. What we need is super partisanship. We need more people admitting that they are conservative and voting that way and that's how this country's going to be saved." "I don't want to go out on a limb and say Obama is afraid of Putin, but you could be excused for thinking so, because it's clear that he doesn't want to anger Putin. He doesn't want to taunt Putin. He doesn't want to challenge Putin in any way, shape, manner, or form." "We need more people willing to speak up proudly. Even though being conservative's mocked, ridiculed, laughed at, made fun of and scorned in the Drive-By Media, it's worth standing up for. It is the solution. It's the way the country was founded. And I have no qualms whatsoever in saying so." "This stuff that's going on at the border is all about liberals not liking this country." "Suspicion of government control, that's a natural thing to have. Look, there are certain things that in physics just happen, and one of them is government gets bigger and gets bigger and wants more power, and that's the natural state of government. It's why you constantly have to fight for smaller government." "Obama is not going to visit the border because once you see what's going on there, you have no choice, you got to shut it down. But if he doesn't go, if he doesn't see it, then he won't shut it down. And he does not want to shut this down. The Dems do not want to shut this down. The Dems think we deserve this." "Inside establishment Washington, there isn't that much disagreement with what Obama's doing, because they're all part of the Government-Is-the-Center-of-the- Universe Crowd. They're all part of the Corporate Cronyism Crowd, where government and Big Money get together, form alliances, and that's that. Lobbying is the key. "Opposing liberalism does not equal hate. But that's what they want it to be. You oppose Obama, you hate him. You oppose Biden, you hate him. You oppose La Raza, you must hate Hispanics. If you oppose the Reverend Jackson, you must hate blacks. Screw that, folks." "Obama's still not sure that there's any problem on the border. Obama and his buddies are saying that the border's secure."
Three levels of feedback prompt prompts clarification: that which is received via e-mail, that which emerges from having re-viewed America yesterday-p.m. with critical minds, and that which is emitted by thinking-libs. Focus on that which others may have missed is desirable, but more desirable remains receipt of any/all critique of the conclusions drawn from these meta-analyses of myriad hyperlinks; when it is suggested that most arise from Drudge/Breitbart, the retort is that many are drawn from KeystoneReport/PoliticsPAalthough many leftie-sites are insufficiently factual. The ideal *constantly drawing from everywhere, no matter how inane+ is yielding to the sufficient *drawing upon lefties who require clarification, rather than comprehensively]; as it is, the ongoing desire is to streamline ASAP.
The speako is a neologism prompted by the claim by an ObamaDontCare Architect, who claimed his Comments [when he Admitted in 2012 that States without Exchanges Lose Subsidies+ Were Just A Typo.
Anyone watching America @ the 4:30 viewing in the Regal *Plymouth Meeting albeit on Ridge Pike+ would have been struck by the applause that spontaneously erupted @ the end; indeed one person who was watching this with my little group was still tearing after Bonos Georgetown quotes *Keeping Faith with the Idea of America] @ the end during the closing rendition of the National Anthem by Megadeath [channeling Jimi Hendrix @ Woodstock]. The extensive discussion thereafter was introduced by moi, noting the discussion prompted by [lib] Stu Bykofsky column [America: 2/3 good], where I posted a four- part analysis and held-off all critics; the consensus was that the movie indeed had three parts, amplified by a few literary-licenses [the indictment of America, the response to the indictment, and the underlying reasons for the indictment]. Those who were libs were non-plussed, whereas those who were conservatives were blown-away by the production values and the enlightenment conveyed.
My theme was that I hadnt known of the impact of Howard Zinns Peoples History of America *which even permeated the Sopranos, per a clip that DSouza invoked+ and, thus, that there was a definable educational-value thereof; indeed, at least one lawmaker wants to Push Bill Requiring Dinesh D'Souza's 'America' Be Shown in Schools. The counter-critique was that DSouza cited extremists *e.g., Ward Churchill]; I replied by noting that he chose people to encompass the major components of the attackers of America for theft *encompassing Native Ameicans, Mexicans, Blacks, the world, the populace]. The counter-critique that was claimed to have been omitted inappropriately was female-exploitation; I replied that this was not customarily included in indictments of American Exceptionalism [and others noted that Susan B. Anthony, etc. were mostly Republicans]. Some felt it was laden with excess hype; I opined that there aint nuttin wrong with a lidda good ol fashioned patriotism, as long as it wasnt functioning as the last refuge of the scoundrel. Everyone agreed the visuals were gripping, although some felt the film didnt live-up to its subtitle *imagine a world without her+; I observed that one cannot disprove a negative, and that DSouza was showing so many positives that the viewer/reader was tasked with recognizing and then imagining what a loss it would have been if these achievements *entrepreneurship, etc.+ hadnt occurred. The database was left intact, although it was claimed that others had also shed slavery; this led to the somewhat classic back-and-forth as to whether the War Between the States was based 1982
primarily on abolishing slavery vs. preserving the Union. [In my view, this is a false issue, because the way the South wanted to preserve slavery was by abolishing the Union.]
The meat of the flick was the unabashed attack on BHO and Hillary [plus Elizabeth Warren, in two brief clips], noting their Alinsky-roots. Indeed, the last-third of the flick was devoted to probing these forces, clearly an intellectually honest pursuit. Some people are contented with attack-attack-attack; DSouza not only answered the indictment by the lefties, but he then probed the progressive forces-at-play that have now created this perfect-storm. He even referenced his own conviction for having paid others to support a NY-candidate/friend; he pulled no punch in the process, conveying refreshing I have no secrets candor.
It must be noted that there are many touches in the flick that arent in the book, so it is advised that both be experienced. Although these data are pulled from different sites it seems that America *$11.4M] compares favorably when compared with the gross of two top documentaries: Roger and Me [$7,706,368+ and DSouzas 2016 *$33,349,941]. Perhaps the best way to sculpt expectations is to compare the tomato-meter [9%] and the audience-support [89%]
It may be desirable to recall prior critiques of his book during the past month [the first five chapters, three subsequent chapters, and three additional chapters]; Chapter 12 *A Global Success Story+ climaxes [after having noted American leadership in creating this environment, and having shown that on some levelMarx was corrupted by Lenin+ thusly: The bottom line is that, in a globalized economy, the job goes to the people who can do it best and at the most affordable price. *page 197+. In the process, he notes how colonization no longer exists, particularly within countries [such as his native India] where technology has flourished. [The last four chaptersEmpire of Liberty, The Biggest Thief of All, American Panopticon, and Decline is a Choicewere skimmed prior to re-viewing the flick, but the juiciest morsels thereof will be provided after a re-reading; they serve only to amplify prior points.]
The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, the largest Tea Party group in the tri-state region of PA, NJ, and DE, will be removing Tea Party from its name and will henceforth be known as the Independence Hall Foundation. The organization will also be shifting its focus and dissolving its PAC. My uploaded-comments about this entity are subject to being discussed more thoroughly [orally] but, suffice-to-say, this event may actually reflect the fact that its leadership [the Adams-Siblings] never really felt comfortable consorting with TEA-Party-types; it may, however, fade in potency as a direct result.
In PA, Corbetts Pension-Reform Gambit continues to attract pixels *e.g., As $50B pension debt weighs on PA, other states have embraced retirement overhauls], even as PSU/Sandusky-related items abound [Son: Joe Paterno feared wrongly accusing Sandusky and Judge denies Spanier bid to halt criminal case]; meanwhile, much to the consternation of gun-control advocates, the Fitzgerald-Mercy Hospital shooting has dramatized the self-protection issue [Armed doctor's actions in Philly shooting reinvigorates debate on gun-carry and DA: Gunman offended by hospital's 'gun-free' policy]. {Also, the POPE will visit Philly.}

Sarah Palin raised the Impeachment issue; at the time, I noted that this was sufficient for this issue to be polled, moving the topic-of-conversation to an area that assumes incompetence-plus has already been established. It is desirable for an environment to exist ASAP [prior to the mid-terms, sustained for the subsequent two years] to prompt people to want to count the days prior to BHOs departure on 1/21/2017. As anticipated, the churning continues [Rep. IDF Spokesperson Announcement 1989
Findings of IDF Inquiry of the UNRWA School Incident in Beit Hanoun July 27, 2014 Location: Tel Aviv
Since Thursday, July 24, 2014, the IDF has conducted a comprehensive inquiry regarding the incident in which the UNRWA school was fired upon. The inquiry concluded that during the intense fighting between IDF forces and Hamas militants, the militants operated adjacent to the UNRWA school. The militants fired anti-tank missiles at IDF soldiers, who then responded by firing several mortars in their direction.
The inquiry and the documented footage presented here concluded that a single errant mortar landed in the courtyard of the UNRWA school, when it was completely empty.
The IDF stresses it does not operate or target international organizations in the Gaza Strip, and the ongoing coordination conducted via the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) is continuous without change, even during times of combat.
In light of the inquiry's findings, the IDF rejects the claims that were made by various officials immediately following the incident, that people were killed in the school premises as a result of IDF operational activity.

'This is an Offensive War': An Inside Look at the Campaign to Take Down Hamas Why Gaza must go [by MARTIN SHERMAN, JPOST] - The only durable solution requires dismantling Gaza, humanitarian relocation of the non-belligerent Arab population, and extension of Israeli sovereignty over the region. Netanyahu: Future funds to rebuild Gaza must be linked to its demilitarization Israel must destroy Hamas now because Israels technological advantage may soon disappear, as per input from a member of the military; Iran is currently transferring to Hamas more capable missile guidance; future Hamas rockets will be guided by GPS and have the ability for evasive trajectories. Thus, the hypothetical Israeli casualties that were avoided by Israels employment of Iron Dome will become actual Israeli casualties in the future engagement; this is why Hamas looks forward to an eventual truce during which they will reorganize.

The best way to appreciate what has animated the cease-fire badminton-game is first to appreciate the flurry of reports that accompanied recognition that 86.5% of Israelis oppose cease-fire:
Israel extended Gaza truce until Sunday despite Hamas rocket fire - Security Cabinet voted in favor of UN humanitarian ceasefire after Hamas answers Israels extended four- hour lull with rocket fire; Hamas: No deal if Israel does not remove forces, source: Calm in fighting means we can focus on dismantling Gaza tunnels. As Israel methodically degraded the Hamas tunnels [although there may be as many as 5000 of them, including branches], Obama and Kerry galloped to the rescue of Hamas; the destruction of the tunnels continued unabated during cease-fires, and the IDF is now set for electronic and signals control of Hamas, Islamic Jihad command centers, after rocket fire [according to DEBKA]:
Before it ended with Hamas rocket fire Saturday night, July 26, the 12-hour ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was used by both parties for regrouping, re-arming, strengthening fortifications and digging in current lines and positions while the sights and sounds of devastation in the Gaza Strip came fully to light. The pause in hostilities also offered Israeli forces a valuable opportunity for collecting intelligence. In the heat of the fighting, the IDF and its clandestine arms were unable despite strenuous efforts to obtain electronic and SIGINT access to the hidden Hamas and Islamic Jihad command and control centers.

John Kerry: The betrayal Astoundingly, the secretarys intervention in the Hamas war empowers the Gaza terrorist government bent on destroying Israel 1991
BY DAVID HOROVITZ July 27, 2014, 2:55 pm
When The Times of Israels Avi Issacharoff first reported the content of John Kerrys ceasefire proposal on Friday afternoon, I wondered if something had gotten lost in translation. It seemed inconceivable that the American secretary of state would have drafted an initiative that, as a priority, did not require the dismantling of Hamass rocket arsenal and network of tunnels dug under the Israeli border. Yet the reported text did not address these issues at all, nor call for the demilitarization of Gaza.
It seemed inconceivable that the secretarys initiative would specify the need to address Hamass demands for a lifting of the siege of Gaza, as though Hamas were a legitimate injured party acting in the interests of the people of Gaza rather than the terror group that violently seized control of the Strip in 2007, diverted Gazas resources to its war effort against Israel, and could be relied upon to exploit any lifting of the siege in order to import yet more devastating weaponry with which to kill Israelis. Israel and the US are meant to be allies; the US is meant to be committed to the protection of Israel in this most ruthless of neighborhoods; together, the US and Israel are meant to be trying to marginalize the murderous Islamic extremism that threatens the free world. Yet here was the top US diplomat appearing to accommodate a vicious terrorist organization bent on Israels destruction, with a formula that would leave Hamas better equipped to achieve that goal. The appalled response to the Kerry proposal by the members of the security cabinet on Friday night, however, made plain nothing had gotten lost in translation at all. The secretarys proposal managed to unite Israels disparate group of key political leaders from Naftali Bennett and Avigdor Liberman on the right, through Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to Yair Lapid and Tzipi Livni on the center-left in a unanimous response of horrified rejection and leaked castigation. The Netanyahu government has had no shortage of run-ins with Kerry in the mere 18 months he has held office. The prime minister publicly pleaded with him in November not to sign the interim deal with Iran on its rogue nuclear program, and there has been constant friction between the two governments over thwarting Irans bid for the bomb. Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon in January ridiculed Kerrys security proposals for a West Bank withdrawal, calling the secretary messianic and obsessive in his quest for an accord with the Palestinians that simply wasnt there. The collapse of the talks in March-April was accompanied by allegations from Jerusalem that Kerry had botched the process, telling Israel one thing and the Palestinian Authority another, including misrepresenting Israels position on Palestinian prisoner releases. But none of those episodes, though deeply troubling and relating to issues central to Israels well-being, provoked the kind of outraged disbelief at Kerrys performance that has been emanating from the Israeli leadership in the past 48 hours. Leaked comments from unnamed senior government sources to Army Radio, Channel 2 and other Hebrew outlets have described the secretary as amateurish, incompetent, incapable of understanding the material he is dealing with in short, a blithering fool. 1992
But actually, its worse than that. What emerges from Kerrys self-initiated ceasefire mission Israel had already accepted the Egyptian ceasefire proposal; and nobody asked him to come out on a trip he prefaced with sneering remarks about Israels attempted pinpoint strikes on Hamas terror targets is that Jerusalem now regards him as duplicitous and dangerous. Contrary to his public claim at his press conference in Cairo that his ceasefire proposal was built on the Egyptian initiative, it manifestly is nothing of the kind. As indicated by the unconfirmed text reported by Issacharoff, by other subsequent reports of its content, and by the cabinets outraged rejection, it is a proposal that, to quote an unnamed official cited by Channel 2, tunneled under the Egyptian initiative, a document, to quote from another of those leaked comments, that reads like it was drawn up for or even by Hamass Khaled Mashaal. And Kerry didnt let up after unleashing his dreadful proposal. Following Fridays fiasco, he jetted off to Paris and, quite extraordinarily, convened further consultations dominated by countries that overtly wish to do Israel harm. He met with his counterparts from Turkey, whose Hamas-backing leadership has lately accused Israel of attempting genocide in Gaza and compared Netanyahu to Hitler, and with Qatar, Hamass funder in chief, directly accused by president Shimon Peres last week of financing Hamass rockets and tunnels. Staggeringly, he did not bring Israel, Egypt, or the PA to his Paris sessions. There were further leaks from the cabinet at the weekend to the effect that Netanyahu and his colleagues did not formally announce their unanimous rejection of Kerrys ceasefire proposal to avoid provoking a public diplomatic confrontation with Israels most important ally. Instead, word of the rejection was allowed to find its way out. That seems rather quaint given what is clearly a major crisis in Israel-US ties at a time when Israel finds itself in the midst of a complex and costly war. When Kerrys predecessor, Hillary Clinton, got involved in the effort to broker terms for ending Operation Pillar of Defense in November 2012, it was self-evident, first, that a ceasefire was at hand, and, second, that the diplomatic work was being coordinated effectively with Jerusalem to ensure that Israels vital interests were being served. It is a testament to Kerrys incompetence (or worse), and to the collapse of faith between him and Israel, that, when he headed ignominiously home on Saturday, neither of those assumptions held sway. Whether through ineptitude, malice, or both, Kerrys intervention was not a case of Americas top diplomat coming to our region to help ensure, through astute negotiation, the protection of a key ally. This was a betrayal.
Time to Finish the Threat
By Arlene Kushner - July 27, 2014 at 04:30PM
1993
I only intend to review the essential outline of what has been transpiring and then look at the bottom line basics that matter most. ~~~~~~~~~~ In the period leading up to Shabbat, on Friday, Israel was said to be considering a proposal for a week long ceasefire that had been put on the table by Kerry. In the end, that proposal was unanimously rejected by the Israel Security Cabinet; its members were, to a person, furious: Kerry had come out solidly on the side of Hamas. Communicating with representatives of Qatar and Turkey in putting together his proposal, Kerry had, in the words of unnamed Israeli sources cited by Times of Israel, dug a tunnel under the Egyptian ceasefire proposal which Israel accepted and Hamas rejected last week and presented the Israeli government with a text that accepted most of the demands raised by Hamas... To the horror of the Israeli ministers, the Kerry proposal accepted Hamass demands for the opening of border crossings into Gaza where Israel and Egypt fear the import of weaponry; the construction of a seaport; and the creation of a post-conflict funding channel for Hamas from Qatar and other countries, according to the sources. The proposal, meanwhile, did not even provide for Israel to continue demolishing the Hamas network of terror tunnels dug under the Israeli border. (All emphasis added) Channel 2s diplomatic reporter Udi Segal said voices from the cabinet had described Kerry as negligent, lacking the ability to understand the issues, and incapable of handling the most basic matters. I myself think describing Kerry thus is cutting him too much slack. He is not the rocket scientist of the diplomatic world, true. But hes not so foolish that he cannot perceive the implications of failing to call for demolishing the terror tunnels into Israel. What we are seeing is not an attempt to stop the fighting that is simply lacking in conceptual clarity. Were seeing an ally of Hamas express his distain and malice toward the people of Israel. Make no mistake about this, or about the fact that Kerry speaks for the man in the White House. Times of Israel editor David Horovitz calls what Kerry did a betrayal, and says the result is that Jerusalem now regards him as duplicitous and dangerous. This is an awakening that I see as all to the good.
~~~~~~~~~~
Subsequent to this, Kerry went to Paris where he met with representatives of Qatar and Turkey to continue working on the ceasefire. I believe he met there as well with Ban Ki Moon, whom my readers know well as another duplicitous anti-Israel diplomat. Should you feel inclined (you may not), you can see here a recent video of a press conference with Netanyahu and Ban. Our prime minister very vividly lays out the picture of what we are contending with regarding Hamas, after which Ban professes sympathy 1994
and then advises us that we cannot solve the problem until there is no more occupation and a two state solution. We should start talking to each other. Today, Ban made a comment about how the people of Gaza have suffered enough. As if we were causing that suffering on purpose and calling a halt to it is all that matters. ~~~~~~~~~~ After Israel rejected the week-long ceasefire that had been proposed by Kerry, Ban Ki Moon, in Paris, working with other diplomats, called for a short humanitarian ceasefire to allow supplies to be brought in and the dead to be brought out to be honored from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM yesterday. That was accomplished. The UN then asked that the ceasefire be extended for another day. We agreed to four more hours. But at 8:01 PM Hamas started firing again, declaring that We didnt agree to an extension. In spite of this, we held our fire. Yet another extension another day of ceasefire was then requested and at about midnight last night the Security Cabinet met again (they are in very frequent session) and voted to agree to that further extension I believe 20 hours - even though it was a one-sided ceasefire. It was about at that point that I went into my WHAT ARE THEY DOING? mode. Today we started shelling in Gaza again, because Hamas did not honor the ceasefire and enough was enough. ~~~~~~~~~~ AFTER we started shooting again, Hamas suddenly decided a ceasefire was a good idea after all, and called for it to be mutually instituted. This time Netanyahu said, Nothing doing. Hamas had violated five ceasefires, two in the last 24 hours. Just since midnight last night, Hamas has launched over 40 rockets. ~~~~~~~~~~ One can readily see, reading this description of what has been transpiring, how the head might spin. But the precise details are not important its the bigger picture that matters. There have been many questions raised about how much work was being done on dismantling the tunnels during times when we were holding fire. Ive gotten different reports on this from various sources, but my sense is that very little was done. Thus do these humanitarian ceasefires unsettle me because they have the potential to shut us down a little at a time. Before everything we have set out to do has been done. ~~~~~~~~~~ However, in the end, its not just about dismantling the tunnels we have uncovered: The stark truth is that we are not going to get all of the tunnels. 1995
Several times I have a great sense of unease as our prime minister has said, We are moving ahead with our goals, but there is no guarantee we will get 100% of the tunnels. And slowly, the picture has become clear. Reports say we have identified about 35 tunnels. I cited a report from Steve Emerson the other day that said the Americans, utilizing infrared censors in a satellite, had identified 60 tunnels. Just today I picked up reliable information that, from the terrorists we have arrested in Gaza, we have learned that there are somewhere between 70 and 100 tunnels. What is more, we are not fully dismantling all of those tunnels we have identified a difficult job because of that reinforced concrete. We are, at least in some cases, apparently doing such things as detonating charges at the mouths of tunnels and pouring sand into them. Is it far-fetched to wonder whether some of them would be able to be reinstated as working tunnels with some effort by Hamas? ~~~~~~~~~~ Preventing Hamas from using these tunnels is the top priority now. A major story has been making the news about what Hamas had planned. Ive heard alternately that written plans for this were picked up inside of some of the tunnels, or that the information came from some of the terrorists who have been captured. I cannot verify the story and thus normally would not even mention it. But it sounds like something Hamas might have been planning. They didnt build the tunnels for recreation. If it wasnt this, it would be something similar: Hamas had apparently been preparing a murderous assault on Israeli civilian targets for the coming Jewish New Year Holiday, Rosh Hashanah, which begins on September 24, according anonymous sources in the Israeli security services, as reported today by the Israeli daily Maariv. The Hamas plan consisted of what was to be a surprise attack in which 200 fighters would be dispatched through each of dozens of tunnels dug by Hamas under the border from Gaza to Israel, and seize kibbutzim and other communities while killing and kidnapping Israeli civilians. (Emphasis added) ~~~~~~~~~~ So, if we take out 45 tunnels and 15 or 20 remain each with several exit points in Israel? It does not bear thinking about. But we have to think about it. Other means must be devised for preventing this. The threat must be finished. And it remains the responsibility of the government to do so.
~~~~~~~~~~
It is very much to the good that Netanyahu is saying that the only ceasefire proposal on 1996
the table is Egypts, and that the rehabilitation of Gaza will depend on its demilitarization: There is, as well, the need for the development of techniques at the Gaza border on our side that will reveal any underground activity, or interfere with it. There are many cutting-edge engineers we can draw upon. We think out of the box: We need the attention and the dedication to see this through. ~~~~~~~~~~ What I ask, then, is that you please write to PM Netanyahu. Let him know that you are with him as he stands strong that standing strong against all demands that weaken Israel is imperative. Tell him that the job must be done right. Hamas must be sufficiently weakened or eliminated, so that it is no longer a threat to Israel. In particular, Hamas must be totally blocked from its ability to attack Jews in Israel via tunnels. The nation of Israel is depending upon him; and the Western world requires his model of strength and determination. E-mail: Memshala@pmo.gov.il also pm_eng2@it.pmo.gov.il (underscore after pm) use both addresses. ~~~~~~~~~~ The rockets also must be contended with. Some tens of thousands remain (in truth, we cannot be certain precisely how many). They present less of an immediate threat than the prospect of large scale attacks via tunnels because of Iron Dome and our use of shelters. But this threat, too, must be eliminated. You will note that a constant refrain of Hamas is that their borders must be opened. This would facilitate the transfer of more rockets into Gaza. And I mention here that Hamas reportedly expects to acquire new rockets from North Korea: Hamas *has+ signed an arms deal with North Korea in order to replenish its depleted rocket arsenal...according to The Telegraph. In an exclusive report the British paper sited senior security sources who claimed that the deal, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, had already been signed, having been made via Lebanese intermediaries. Hamas has reportedly made an initial down payment in cash to Pyongyang, and is hoping for an imminent delivery to Gaza. These plans signal the attitude of Hamas leaders they are not feeling defeated, but want to pick and go on. Our methods of dealing with them must be informed by their attitude. ~~~~~~~~~~ As of today, 43 of our soldiers have died. ~~~~~~~~~~ A new poll indicates that 86.5% of Israelis do not want a ceasefire now. 1997
The spirit of the nation is incredible, as people gather to pray for the soldiers, and pack gift packages to bring to them. Almost everyone is involved somehow.
Gaza Tunnels: How They Work, What Israel Knew By J.J. Goldberg - July 26, 2014, 4:45pm
In my last post I promised to translate Alex Fishmans Friday column in Yediot Ahronot discussing Hamass tunnels. Here it is. He briefly traces Israels growing awareness of the problem over more than a decade. He reaches much the same conclusion as Nahum Barnea: the fact is that everyone saw, everyone knew, everyone understood, and yet the test of results ended in failure Theres a lively debate right now in the Hebrew press over whether or not Israel realized the full extent of the threat. That is, given that the threats existence was long known, is there any truth to the claim that Israel was surprised? Ive got some links below to follow the debate if your Hebrew is up to it. It cant be understated how misleading the English-language reporting on the topic has been; more on that below, after the translation. Both Barnea and Fishman conclude, as my translations show, that the IDF and government knew enough to grasp the full dimensions of the threat, if not the details of every tunnel, long before this operation. Whether or not theyre right will be determined soon enough, as Harel writes. I generally read Barnea and Fishman first because theyre commonly described as the best informed, best connected and smartest in the field in Israel Barnea in political analysis, Fishman in reporting from inside the mind of the military. Unfortunately, Yediot doesnt publish on line its Ynet site is a fully separate publication and doesnt translate its print material into English. My translations are as literal as I can make them. Ive often heard friends and readers in the last few weeks expressing bewilderment that the IDF had such a hard time finding technology to locate tunnels or detect excavation in real time. Fishman wrote about that a few weeks ago. His basic thrust was that normal sensor equipment is only effective down to about 10 meters, and Hamas attack tunnels are around 25 meters down. And the sophisticated equipment used for oil and gas exploration is too sensitive for concrete structures just 25 meters down theyre looking for tiny signals from miles down, and closer to the surface they tend to go off whenever a truck goes by. Anyway, heres Fishman: Damaging the National Project 1998
On Wednesday this week the defense minister returned to the Gaza Strip to examine the destruction of the tunnels. When he was at the headquarters of the division in charge of cleaning out Sejaiyeh, fire opened up from the windows of Wafa Hospital, whose patients had been evacuated at the beginning of the week after Israels Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories directly approached the hospital director and asked him to leave. Since then the place had been officially converted into a forward position of the Izz a-Din al-Qassem Brigades. The defense minister immediately authorized the destruction of the building, and an air force plane eliminated it. The secondary explosions that were heard long after the bombing made clear that the hospital had been serving not only as a firing position but as a storehouse for rockets. The patients were lying directly above huge quantities of explosives. By the middle of this week the army had destroyed most of the tunnel exits on the Israeli side and near it. The problem is destroying the tunnels along their full length. It turns out that Hamas built the tunnels in a cluster pattern. Each one of the terrorist organizations six brigades was given responsibility for tunneling in its sector and dug tunnels, one alongside the other, in pairs or threes. Channels were dug between the tunnels to connect them. Each tunnel had a number of exits, to permit the scattering of the forces that emerged from them. Hamass tunnel planner took account of the fact that there are communities and military camps scattered around the Israeli side of the Gaza border, and tried to concentrate the tunnel cluster in the direction of strategic locations. Thus when an order was given, the men would be able to break out simultaneously through numerous shafts and scatter across a broad sector of Israeli territory. If one tunnel collapsed or was exposed they could simply cross over to the next. From their point of view it was a project of genuinely national scale. For the purpose of breakout Hamas trained select forces, since it required descending to a depth of up to 25 meters [80 feet or about 7 or 8 stories jjg] and movement along hundreds of meters, up to a kilometer [0.6 of a mile], carrying a full load of equipment thats reminiscent of IDF equipment, and with very little oxygen. At each opening a storeroom was prepared with combat equipment for a combat unit consisting of 15 to 17 men at every invasion point. In the 2007 annual report of the State Comptroller [Israels national government inspector general jjg], the army itself is quoted speaking about the danger of the attack tunnels. Between 2001 and 2004, 14 soldiers were killed as a result of activity that emerged from the tunnels, whether the blowing up a military installation, encounters with terrorists emerging from tunnel shafts or in the course of activity to locate them. The military personnel who say that everyone knew about the danger are correct. The defense minister, too, relates that just in the 1999
last year we have attacked four tunnels, and that during the current activity intelligence personnel are leading the forces directly to the tunnel mouths. The infiltrations into Israeli territory carried out during Operation Protective Edge have been interdicted, some at the cost of soldiers lives, and have not ultimately reached any communities or military installations. And still, the fact is that everyone saw, everyone knew, everyone understood, and yet the test of results ended in failure. Miraculously, Hamass combat doctrine did not speak of fighters emerging simultaneously from all the tunnels in the first stage of a campaign, but preferred the use of medium- and long-range rockets as the opening strike. Its true that the line in the IDF Southern Command was on the alert in the last few months for a scenario of breaking out of tunnels, but its doubtful whether it would have been possible to prevent all the incidents of bloodshed or kidnapping. The preparations that Hamas undertook in the area of tunneling, rocket production, smuggling military equipment, training forces and strengthening their endurance all point to one clear conclusion: this is not an army of barefoot hooligans. There is planning, command, technology and doctrine. Its possible to tip ones hat to their professionalism for a moment, before going in and demolishing their national projects. Shai Gal at Mako-Channel 2 runs through a 20-year history of failed efforts to find a technological solution and debates over whether it really mattered. Yoav Zeitun at Ynet details some proposed solutions developed and scrapped over the years. This piece by Doron Nahum at Nana-Channel 10, from November 2013, describes the mounting alarm inside the IDF over the scope of the problem, culminating in a decision to send soldiers out on foot patrols to look for whatever they could find. This piece by Pazit Ravina in Maariv puts the blame on former (2005-07) IDF chief of staff Dan Halutz, who she says bulked up the air force budget at the expense of tunnel research. Its one of several claiming solutions could have been found given enough effort and money; blame is variously placed on the IDF or Treasury. Haaretzs Amos Harel, writing (in English!) last Monday, says regardless of whether the IDF was fully aware of the problems scope, it knew enough and the failure to resolve earlier is about to become a major national scandal. As for English-language reporting on the issue, nothing captures the insipid quality more vividly than an exchange yesterday on the revered PBS News Hour. Anchor Gwen Ifill started it off with a question to a Washington pundit, opening with the observation that Israel regards the tunnels as a strategic threat while Hamas considers them an economic lifeline. Shes talking about two entirely distinct and dissimilar sets of tunnels. The ones leading south into the Sinai city of Rafah were the economic lifeline. Theyve been demolished by Egypt, which was able to locate them on its side of the border because the openings were cargo loading and unloading zones. The ones leading east into Israel are entirely useless as economic channels, leading only to empty fields near 2000
Israeli villages and IDF installations. Theyre entirely military in nature. Israel cant easily find them on its side of the fence because theyre not opened until an attack is mounted. Hence the technology dilemma.

The opportunity to remit these two graphics yields the ability to tie a loose-end; having remitted 2000 pages since early-December [and another 1000+ during the prior half-year], it is possible to congeal the immediate challenge [and, upon request] to tether it to long-term concerns [both amply documented]. Regarding the necessity to fight Islamism, it is clear that they never ceased contesting the Crusades *recognizing that the Jewish portion of the Judeo-Christian Ethic has gained prominence since Israel was re-established in 48+. Therefore, particularly noting establishment of the Islamic State, it is vital that the USA ponder the need to organize efforts to defeat these savages ASAP [also, lest Iran get the credit and, in the process assume control of the heart of the Middle East+. In the interim, it is vital that BHOs anti-colonialism *and Kerrys progressivism+ be halted by the adults in the room who wish to preserve some semblance of global recognition of the historically-merited American Exceptionalism. Israel must be provided whatever support is needed to uproot Hamas and Kurdistan should be recognized ASAP; regarding Putin, the Ukraine should be included within the NATO umbrella, for Russia is now unmasked.
Judging from feedback received after having remitted the prior Blast e-mails, it is necessary to be clear; BHO is trying [directly and indirectly] to achieve a hudna for Hamas, a cease-fire that would allow it to regroup prior to destruction of the tunnels.
BHO must be opposed aggressively as he continues to exhibit the lawlessness of a tyrant [not enforcing laws that he swore to uphold, applying political discretion when deciding which laws to enforce, and making new laws by invoking an ethereal executive privilege to issue sweeping executive orders. Through it all, the systemic-corruption of BHOs Scandal Sheet *not just IRS/NSA/Benghazi-Gate] must be exposed aggressively through Congress *eschewing talk of impeachment+. ,I feel Hillary wont run.-
Deportation of Illegals and support for Godshalls cigarette risk-reduction efforts [steadfastly pursued for a quarter-of-a-century, plus!+ are vital; the top, down fashion in which government appears to be tolerated is antithetical to grass-root conservatism.
Meanwhile, the TEA Party Movement must be assisted in its efforts to focus upon primary-challenges in its effort to reform the GOP [curtailing expenditures such as the Highway Bill and expanding the debt]; the working-hypothesis regarding POTUS-16 continues to be support for a Cruz/Walker ticket [in whatever sequence]. In this context, it seems a potential [albeit never fulfilled, for reasons that can be explained] ally in this effort has demurred; the Independence Hall Tea Party Association [and PAC] are no more, for this Philly-Based Tea Party Group Changed its Name and Shifted its Focus. My comments are worth reprinting in this regard, for they affect other stances:
Arguably, these goals were extant all-alongparticularly the desire to embrace the Pro- Life movementbut dissolving the PAC reflects the possibility that strong politicking wont be easy.
This should not be perceived as a retrenchment because it reflects an evolving recognition that the conservative values that have animated the Adams-Siblings have 2002
Judeo-Christian roots that encompass the Constitution [but can now be perceived as mutually exclusive thereof].
To translate that last graph, it would appear that they will want to maintain their linkage to an established identity [Independence Hall] in a more positive/assertive fashion [devoid of any trappings of engrained desires to "protest"]; IMHO, they will do well to invite their supporters to create regional subgroups [starting with a tri-state division] which they might then coordinate [depending upon the issue being pursued].

@ Matt *who had written: Let them do what they want, theyre still the most irrelevant political advocacy group in the city.+:
You are incorrect; although I have been critical of some of their moves [such as the early-endorsement of Romney], it is undeniable that they have built a steady constituency, manifest [in particular] each 7/4.
Illustrative of this cultural success is their ability to have migrated from the sweltering heat/humidity outsideto the ballroom inside *charging a nominal fee+ on that date; they attract national figures [such as Pamela Geller] and provide awards to otherwise- unsung heroes.
They also have developed a niche within certain facets of conservative society [such as a go-to media presence on Sunday-a.m. news-shows and strong relationship with Dom Giordano]; thus, rather than disparage the selfless energies the Adams-Siblings have devoted to helping to save America from the ravages of BHO, you may wish to recognize how they have chosen to manifest the independence in their appellation.
Every effort must be made to support Corbett, whose policies are preferable to those of Wolf; it doesnt matter if anyone else enters the race *Libertarian and Green Parties+ by weeks end. It is still problematic that Corbett has not held an endless press conference to discuss why nothing seems to have occurred during 2010 [3 troopers, part-time] and why he fired JoePa precipitously [absent a modicum of study]. Exhaustively documented is inability to trust the national media [and the Inqy, noting how it lionizes Trudy Rubin] so, regardless of what happens to the PSU-leaders who are soon to be tried, accusations beyond the dyad just depicted may be subject to a charge of overkill *notwithstanding the botched roll-out by AG-Kane]. Common Core and ObamaDontCare also should be robustly opposed, and the desire to achieve gun-control must be neutralized by recognition of the import of the 2 nd Amendment. ,Any doubt about American Exceptionalism should be dashed by reading/viewing DSouzas America.-
