4 Structural Analysis Report of Residential Building
BACKGROUND:
The Owner of this building project is Mrs. Gita kumari Regmi. This building Project is located at
Dhapasi, Tilingtar D! "ard #o $, plot #o% &'$, (and area of this project is &)*.+, -.m. This
project comprises planning architectural design and structural design components.
#epal lies in seismicall/ acti0e region. 1t is located in the boundar/ line of the colliding tectonic
plates2 the 1ndian plates and the Tibetan plates. Records of earth.uake are a0ailable in #epal since
3&)) 4D. Those records re0eals that #epal has hit b/ 35 major earth.uakes, the 35++ and 36+*
earth.uakes were the most destructi0e ones.
7owe0er, it would not be economicall/ feasible to design the building so as to ensure that the/
remain elastic and damage free because the occurrence of ma8imum earth.uakes low sa/ one in
$) /ears. Thus, it is reliable to design the ductile structure and not to design damage free structure
but non2collapsible for minimum destruction in li0es and properties. The design should ensure the
structure against stabilit/, strength and ser0iceabilit/ with acceptable le0el of seismic safet/.
Thus the seismic design of the building is done and the brief report has been prepared. 4ll the
design data are considered in the detail architectural and structural drawings.
The basic aim of the structural design is to build a structure, which is safe, fulfilling the intended
purpose during its estimated life, economical in terms of initial and maintenance cost, durable and
also maintaining a good aesthetic appearance. The construction cost of an/ building consists of
three phases% a9 Design, b9 Drawing with proper detailing and c9 constructions as per drawings
and details. The design of structure consists of two parts. i9 4nal/sis and ii9 Design. 4t first the
preliminar/ si:e of 0arious member for specific structure are fi8ed and the anal/sis is carried out
with the help of ;<M tool <T4=-&'3+. "ith the result obtained from anal/sis, necessar/ design
is carried out.
The pseudo2static> -eismic coefficient approach method of seismic anal/sis is conducted and
-trap and Tie beam pro0ision has been included in Modal anal/sis. The -oil t/pe considered for
-eismic coefficient is medium t/pe of soil with -eismic :oning factor of fi0e and -eismic
reduction factor ?;i0e@ for Moment resisting Ductile ;rames. 1n the Pseudo2static anal/sis the
time period comes out for 3

is assumed.
4fter the completion of the design, drawings are prepared with all necessar/ details. The
presentation of the design calculation and drawings, the construction of the building is carried out.
The effort with which design has been carried out becomes worthwhile onl/ if the design is
translated to a correspondingl/ high .ualit/ structure.
