#.o the Ministr$ of /ustice and Constitutional 0'airs see the issue of
the securit$ of 1udges and of courthouses as a high priorit$. The
Minister of /ustice and Constitutional 0'airs re2uested the support
of the 3nited 4ations which we are &er$ pleased to pro&ide. 5t%s a
comprehensi&e pac!age of support( from e2uipment to
refurbishment of courthouses and also training. Training for both the
custodial corps who are in the 1udiciar$ and also in&ol&ing the
.omali 6olice 7orce.*

The training programme is in its initial stages( and we e8pect to
train up to +-- o9cers with the aim of better protecting the facilities
that house the 1udicial o9cers and other departments as well*

STORY
M#/adish*' S#ma$ia= 1- senior .omali Custodial Corps o9cers
deplo$ed to protect the :enadir Court Comple8 building and its ;56
occupants toda$ completed a speciali<ed courthouse securit$
training organised b$ the 7ederal =o&ernment of .omalia with the
support of the 34 0ssistance Mission in .omalia >34.?M@ in
cooperation with the 34 Mine 0ction .er&ice >34M0.@ and the
0frican 3nion 6olice in a bid to e2uip the o9cers with the necessar$
s!ills and technical !now)how to impro&e the safet$ and securit$ of
the court.
The Training is the Arst part of a wider programme aimed at
enhancing the s!ills of .omali Custodial Corps o9cers. The trainees
were instructed on the operation of screening e2uipment( personnel
searches and standard operating procedures during attac!s.

Court in a bra<en da$time attac! that claimed the li&es of ci&ilians(
securit$ o9cers and courthouse o9cials. With better training(
o9cials belie&e future attac!s will be deterred.
0hmed Mu!htar from the Ministr$ of /ustice and Constitutional
0'airs noted that !eeping the courts safe would gi&e the 1udiciar$
o9cials the conAdence to wor! without fear or coercion which is
critical for 1ustice and fair trial to pre&ail.
