12. Tap set with die holder
Material required
Mild steel plate of size 50 x 50 x 5 mm
Procedure
1. Check the raw material size (50 x 50 x 5 mm) using a steel rule.
2. Clamp the given workpiece in a vice and file any two surfaces to get a right angle.
3. Apply chalk on the workpiece uniformly.
4. Mark the given dimensions as shown in fig, where to be drilled.
5. Punch the mid-point of the required holes by using a dot punch.
6. Drill the punched dots by a drilling machine.
7. Tap the holes after drilling by using a tap set.
Result
Thus, the given workpiece is drilled and tapped to the required dimensions.

TAPER TURNING
Aim
To perform the facing, plain turning, step turning and taper turning in the job as per given dimension.
Tools Required
Single point cutting tool, chuck key, spanner.
Measuring Tools
Steel rule, vernier calliper, Jenney calliper and outside calliper.
Materials Required
32mm diameterx115mm length-MS round rod
Procedure:
1. The job is fixed in the lathe chuck by using chuck key
2. The single point cutting tool is held on the tool post
3. The tool is positioned to center of the job by using movement of carriage
4. Face the end of the job by movement of cross feed wheel
5. Then the feed is given to parallel to lathe axis for turning job to obtain required dimension
6. After completing plain turning operations on whole job, the same procedure is repeated for to obtain
step with required diameter
7. Next the compound rest base is swivelled to required taper angle and it is tightened
8. The angular feed is given to required dimensions by moving the cross slide
9. Then the taper cylindrical surface machined
10. Then the chamfering is done on the both ends
11. Finally the job is checked for the given dimension by using vernier calliper
Safety Precaution
Ensure that the job is well tightened
Take care in the alignment of tool in each case
Confirm that the chuck key is removed after tightening
Dont bring your hand nearer to the running chuck
Result
Thus the taper turning operation is done on the given job to required dimension

KNURLING
Aim
To perform the Knurling in the job as per given dimension.
Tools Required
Single point cutting tool, chuck key, spanner.
Measuring Tools
Steel rule, vernier calliper, Jenney calliper and outside calliper.
Materials Required:
32mm diameterx115mm length-MS round rod
Procedure:
1. The job is fixed in the lathe chuck by using chuck key
2. The single point cutting tool is held on the tool post
3. The tool is positioned to center of the job by using movement of carriage
4. Face the end of the job by movement of cross feed wheel
5. Then the feed is given to parallel to lathe axis for turning job to obtain required dimension
6. Then the turning tool is replaced to hold the knurling tool on the tool post.
7. The knurling tool is pressed against the rotating job.
8. The feed is given parallel to the lathe axis for knurling and diamond shaped impression is produced on
the surface of the job.
9. Then the chamfering is done on the both ends
10. Finally the job is checked for the given dimension by using vernier calliper
Safety Precaution
Ensure that the job is well tightened
Take care in the alignment of tool in each case
Confirm that the chuck key is removed after tightening
Dont bring your hand nearer to the running chuck

Result
Thus the knurling operation is done on the given job to required dimension

ECENTRIC TURNING
Aim:
To make a eccentric turning on the given work piece.
Tools Required:
V-tool, chuck key, tool spanner, divider, punch, scriber, hammer, surface gauge
Measuring Tools:
Steel rule, outside calliper, vernier calliper
Material Required:
50mm 50mm 30mm MS block
Procedure
Sequence of Operation:
Marking and punching
Job setting
Tool setting
Turning
Marking and Punching:
Mark the dimensions on the work piece and punch it.
Job Setting:
The work piece is held in the four jaw chuck and centred with the help of surface gauge.
Tool Setting:
V-tool is fixed in the square tool post. And the tool is tilted to 45 deg by adjusting the tool post
locking lever.
Turning:
By using cross slide moving handle and carriage moving handle, the turning operation on the job is
performed.
Result
Thus the eccentric turning operation is performed in center lathe.

INTERNAL THREAD CUTTING
Aim:
To make a internal thread cutting on the given work piece.
Tools Required:
Boring tool, V-tool, chuck key, tool spanner, divider, punch, scriber, hammer, surface gauge
Measuring Tools:
Steel rule, outside calliper, vernier calliper
Material Required:
50mm 50mm 30mm MS block
Procedure
Sequence of Operation:
Marking and punching
Job setting
Tool setting
Drilling and boring
Thread tool setting and thread cutting
Marking and Punching:
Mark the dimensions on the work piece and punch it.
Job Setting:
The work piece is held in the four jaw chuck and centred with the help of surface gauge.
Tool Setting:
V-tool is fixed in the square tool post. And the tool is tilted to 45 deg by adjusting the tool post
locking lever.
Turning:
By using cross slide moving handle and carriage moving handle, the turning operation on the job is
performed.
Drilling
Drilling is done using series of drills in lathe.
Boring
The boring tool is set on the tool post. Boring operation is done using the boring tool upto the required
dimension.
Thread tool setting and machine setting
Internal thread tool is set on the tool post and is parallel to the bore axis. Change gear is set for the
required TPI. The half nut mechanism is engaged and the thread cutting operation is performed.

Result
Thus the eccentric turning operation is performed in center lathe.

EXTERNAL THREAD CUTTING

4. Face the end of the job by movement of cross feed wheel
5. Then the feed is given to parallel to lathe axis for turning job to obtain required dimension
6. The thread cutting tool is clamped in tool post perpendicular to the lathe axis for thread cutting
operation.
7. After setting of thread cutting tool, the thread cutting operation is performed on the job for required
depth of cut.
8. The required depth is obtained by more than one cut.
9. Then the chamfering is done on the both ends
10. Finally the job is checked for the given dimension by using vernier calliper
