Reflective Journal : Week 1

On the first week, I have conducted only one class because the timetable was
confirmed only after the third day I was in the school. During the first class, I
conducted a shadow teaching session. I have done this to first of all, get to know
the students, understand the cultural identity and background of the students and
assess their language proficiency. The strength that I see exists when executing the
shadowing, I was able to first establish basic classroom rules that have enabled me
to carry out the teaching and learning process smoothly. Apart from helping me run
the class smoothly. I was able to establish assertive image that allows me to acquire
the students respects. The other element that I see contributing to the strength part
is that the class contains mostly the bright students.
One of the weakness that I feel present in the classroom is a minority of the
students have weak mastery of the English language. They were at most time slow
and even docile. I felt this is a threat to the flow of the classroom. Other than that, I
have a serious problem in understanding some of the students language because
they speak Mandarin most of the time and some refuse or not fluent in Bahasa
Melayu or English.
Opportunities that I feel can be exploited in the classroom is, the ICT facilities
are quite advance and help me a lot in teaching and learning process most of the
time. I can reduce cost, time and energy by exploiting this. Furthermore, I can
control the classroom better since I dont have to take a lot of time to arrange my
teaching materials.
In the nutshell, the first week in SJK(C) Kampung Jawi was a good start for
me as I didnt face some serious problem yet. Hopefully, this practicum will go
smoothly for me.





Reflective Journal : Week 2
Problem
The problem this time is cantered on classroom discipline in which students always
make noise when I'm performing a teaching and learning session
Analysis
This problem arises because the students do not listen to the instructions of teachers
during the teaching process in the classrooms. Moreover, this problem may also
stem from p & p which I plan in the classroom does not fit with the interest of pupils
leaving them unable to concentrate on my teaching in the classroom. For the class of
environmental factors may also play a role in influencing students like conditions that
too many students in a classroom lead to increased noise pupils because they are
not comfortable with a narrower class and interfere with their learning process.
Recommendations to improve
There are several proposals can be implemented to improve the problems that exist,
namely:
Plan a teaching strategy that suites my students level and interest
Able to adapt into the students culture (Chinese)
Be more assertive and stand firm to the rules I set in the first class interaction
Period of time
I will try to solve this problem as soon as possible. This is important because it will
determine the smoothness of the P & P I in the next few weeks.
Follow-up
I will try to solve all my problems seriously. I will try to find the information to get an
idea of interest in planning activities in the classroom that I teach more interesting. I
hoped to be able to overcome this problem.
