COSWEET - COS Removal

COSWEET : Natural Gas Sweetening with Complete COS Removal
By combining amine absorption with catalytic COS hydrolysis, COSWEET allows gas sweetening, either total
(removal of both HS + CO) or selective (removal of HS mainly), with complete COS removal. The three
steps of COSWEET process consists in:
Removing the bulk of the HS and CO present in the feed gas by absorption in the bottom section of a
solvent absorber.
Withdrawing the partially sweetened gas from bottom section of the absorber, water washing, heating to
mild temperature and sending it to a hydrolysis reactor, where COS is converted to HS and CO.
Cooling the hydrolyzed gas and removing the HS (and if needed also the CO) by absorption in the top
part of the amine absorber, down to the required specification
COSWEET is applicable with any type of absorption solvent:
With solvents such as formulated amine which already achieve COS removal, COSWEET will allow
deeper COS removal without any increase of the solvent flow in the absorber.
With selective solvents, such as MDEA which scarcely removes COS, COSWEET achieves deep COS
removal while keeping the benefits of selective HS removal: reduced solvent flow, higher concentration
of HS in the acid gas.
COSWEET allows CAPEX and OPEX savings of around 15 % or more compared to other options when deep
COS removal is required. Those savings figures do not include the additional savings on the dowstream SRU,
linked to the fact that by using a selective amine COSWEET will produce a better quality acid gas to be fed
to the SRU.

Industrial Experience
COSWEET is based on PROSERNATs extensive industrial experience of natural gas sweetening with
alkanolamines (AdvAmine technology portfolio - over 150 units built). It also relies on IFPEN and Axens
(as manufacturer of the specific COSWEET catalyst) extensive experience in the development of catalysts
and catalytic process for all kind of industrial applications.
