LEADERSHIP TEAM PASTORAL TEAM After ministering for several years in pastoral ministry, the Lord brought together four friends and called them to move their families to the Salt Lake Valley for the purpose of planting church-planting churches. They nd great joy in serving each other and the church with the gifts God has given them. LUKUS COUNTERMAN Lead for Preaching & Vision Lukus most recently pas- tored Wichita Falls Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Having completed his doctoral work in expos- itory preaching from Dallas Theological Seminary, he brings fourteen years of preaching, teaching, and pastoral ministry experience with him to Salt Lake City. While providing leadership through preaching, teaching, and ministerial team devel- opment he also serves as an industrial chaplain at Hill Air Force Base in Layton, Utah. Lukus has been a reserve chaplain in the U.S. Air Force for almost six years. JONATHAN ALBRIGHT Worship & College Outreach Jonathan has over 10 years of experience as a pastor for worship and college ministry. Before sensing Gods call to serve here in Salt Lake City, Jonathan served in various capacities at Brookside Baptist Church in Milwaukee, WI. During that time, God prepared Jonathan with the skills and gifts to coordinate the shepherding, worship and college ministries at Gospel Grace Church. His relational drive deepens relationships and strength- ens connections among the members of Gospel Grace. He is also a gifted musician and works bi-vocationally as a violin, piano, voice and guitar teacher in the city. WILL GALKIN Evangelism & Discipleship Having traveled across the United States for 19 years as an evangelist, Will brings unique gifts, abilities, and opportunities to mobilize co-laborers from across the country for the purpose of strategic church planting ministry. Will engages in several months of itinerant ministry throughout the year with his family and minis- try team by equipping and serving local churches. While spending much of the year in Salt Lake City, Will serves as pastor for evangelism, discipleship, and leads our ministry equipping seminars and summer ministry part- nership ministries we host for local churches across the country. JON KOPP Students, Media & Administration Prior to serving at Gospel Grace Church, Jon served for 8 years as a pastor for student, worship, and media ministry at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Oak Ridge Tennessee. Jon is a passion- ate disciple-maker who loves to proclaim Gods Word and see it transform lives. Our church body and ministry team are strengthened by his love for people and gift of administration. God has also given him a blend of gifts that allow him to fuse his love for the Gospel with powerful and efective com- munication through media. Jon currently serves not only as pastor for student, media, community outreach and ad- ministration, but also works bi-vocationally as a graphic designer. MINISTRY TEAM God has been very kind to unite several gifted co-laborers to serve in the mission of Gospel Grace Church. Our ministry team listed be- low represent a small picture of the army of people God has assem- bled to carry out the mission of Gospel Grace Church. MARK KOPP Deacon God has blessed us by calling Mark and his wife Patti to join Gospel Grace Church. Mark and Patti have given themselves to be used in local church work for over 35 years, and have consis- tently and joyfully modeled lives of sacricial service. They currently serve Gospel Grace Church by shoulder- ing the visitor follow-up, record keeping, mentoring and giving of themselves in countless areas of service. STEVE FRAZEE Deacon Steve and his wife Jacque have lived in Utah for sev- eral years and have served several ministries. God brought them to Salt Lake City 4 months after Gospel Grace Church was started. They are both gifts to the church and model the lives of a servanthood. Not only does Steve bring years of ministerial experience and discipleship, but he carries a bold vision for outreach through ministries that he has either pioneered or that he envisions being launched through the ministry of Gospel Grace Church. NIC HIGGINS Pastoral Assistant Having served as a ministry intern at Brookside Bap- tist Church in Brookeld, Wisconsin, Nic moved to SLC in the fall of 2012 to assist in and learn from the church planting endeavor. Nic has a desire to serve as a member of a pastoral team and is planning to be married to his ance in December 2014. Nic is passionate about discipleship and is training for pastoral ministry. JONATHAN JARRETT Pastoral Assistant Jonathan moved to SLC in June of 2013. After traveling for several years with the Galkin Evangelistic Team, and being exposed to what God was doing in forming a leadership team to plant a church in Salt Lake City, he prayerfully moved to assist the church planting work. Because of Jonathans desire to serve as a pastoral team member of a future church plant, he has placed himself under the mentorship of the pastors and is serving the church in several capacities. JOSH LONGORIA Ministry Intern Josh and his family moved to SLC after being actively involved in the ministry of Wichita Falls Baptist Church in Texas. Having spent sever- al years serving as a pas- toral assistant under Lukus Counterman, Josh and his wife became burdened for the work that God is doing in the Salt Lake Valley. They both serve in several areas of ministry at Gospel Grace Church, and they participate in the mentoring opportuni- ties provided by the pastoral team.
LAURA KENNEDY Ministry Intern Laura comes to SLC after serving with the Galkin Evangelistic Team for three years. She has a heart for the people of Salt Lake and has been working at Apple, Inc. as a means of living in the city to evangelize the people she comes into con- tact with. She is passionate about communicating the life-changing message of the Gospel through media (specically through video). She is burdened to leverage her gifts to support and car- ry out the mission of Gospel Grace Church. SALT LAKE CITY PROFILE CHURCH-PLANTING CHURCHES We believe the gospel must be proclaimed in places where it isnt. In Salt Lake City, there is only one evangelical church for every ten thousand people. Thats not enough. Gods plan is that the organic product of great commis- sion work is the planting of churches. We long to reach one of the neediest areas of our country by taking what God has poured into our lives and invest- ing it in the lives of others such that new churches are formed in Salt Lake City. There is a great missionary need here, and our hearts desire to see many healthy churches planted in the years ahead.. EXPOSITIONAL PREACHING We want Gods revealed truth to permeate all of life and ministry. To live means to consume Gods Word (Matt. 4:4). Our goal is to see believers get past the milk of the Word and dig into doctrinal meat. We seek to give the Bi- ble priority and prominence in our worship services because it has the power to change lives. We seek to proclaim Gods Word in this valley because it has the power to save souls (Rom. 1:16). We are committed to expository preach- ing because the Word is whats needed in Salt Lake City. In so many ways, this valley is dying for the Word. 2% EVANGELICAL - But, most do not approach the Word expositionally 45% LDS - Embrace a twisting of the Word 40% SECULAR - Represent an absence of the Word altogether We want to be an outpost for the WORD! GOSPEL-CENTERED COMMUNITY Since Gospel-centered community is the context for discipleship we want to see an expanding network of localized Community Group Bible studies across the city. These are made up of men and women at various ages and stages of life brought together geographically for fellowship, care, accountability and the study of Gods Word in the neighborhoods they live in. As people live Gospel-centered, grace-saturated lives in this context we believe Salt Lakers will be reached, the church will grow, and the city will be transformed. THE NEED PHILOSOPHY OF CHURCH PLANTING Strategic Multiplication The church is Gods means of displaying His character to a lost and dying world therefore we are committed to investing in reproducing church-plant- ing churches in strategic communities throughout the Salt Lake Valley. We envision this happening through cloning, daughter, and sister church planting relationships. Leadership Development If we are to really see the entire city, valley, and state reached with the Gospel, we must have workers and leaders multiplying at every level. We have a vision to develop a Church Planting Center and a City Seminary in the years ahead. This will involve formalized leadership development, theological training in the city, ministry mentoring, and church planting assessment and accountability. CHURCH PLANTING CENTER to select, place, and train church planters. CITY SEMINARY to ofer graduate theological education in a cohort model. Regional Training We see the need and are burdened to provide educational and ministerial training not only to meet our own church development goals, but also to serve church leaders in the Intermountain West. Presently Gospel Grace Church provides three opportunities a year for Church leaders to participate in our Pastoral Ministry Enrichment Seminars (PMES). The primary focus of the PMES is to equip leaders for healthy church ministry. Secondarily, the PMES serves to connect like-minded ministries so that they are able to part- ner more strategically.
Strategic Partnerships Inside the Salt Lake Valley - The mission and the opportunities of the Salt Lake Valley are beyond the capacity of just one church. It is our desire that we would be able to partner with those of like faith and philosophy to spread the Gospel in Salt Lake Valley. Outside the Salt Lake Valley - Each summer we lead a ministry called Plant Camp (a mission opportunity for partnering churches outside of Salt Lake City). We currently host a combined total of 120 150 teens and adults who come to the city for one of the 4 week-long camps. They labor alongside Gos- pel Grace Church to serve church planting endeavors. Lord willing, as more church plants are launched in the city we could see a facility like this providing a place to house these teams and serve as a hub to facilitate their ministry. THE VISION FACILITY OPPORTUNITY A property that we believe allows us to strategically fulll this vision has come to light. For the last ten years, the K2 Church has grown into over 35,000 square feet of ministry space on 2 acres in the heart of the Salt Lake valley. As of December 2014, their ministry has outgrown the facility and is planning to relocate a few miles south into a renovat- ed shopping mall. This facility is not only designed, built and tooled for church ministry, but it also includes several features that are particularly attractive to community or ministry groups as a rental property for events or special functions. Currently, another ministry is contracted to lease a portion of the property for Saturday evening services. UNIQUELY STRATEGIC LOCATION Because of this propertys strategic location, over 1 million people can access it in a 25 minute drive or less. This property sits at the crossroads of the two major interstates that service Salt Lake City and the state of Utah. I-15 and I-80 meet at the center of the Salt Lake Valley, and this property sits 3 blocks from access to both of these. The property is adjacent to a major Trax stop (public rail system), and is highly visible and accessible from major intersections and highways. A STRATEGIC HUB 2.5 ACRES 2100 SOUTH 193 WEST 2 BUILDINGS 37,500 SQUARE FEET OF OFFICE & AUDITORIUM SPACE VISIBILITY OF 120,000 PEOPLE PER DAY 1,000,000 PEOPLE ARE A 20 MINUTE DRIVE AWAY. HOUSE OF WORSHIP We have outgrown our current worship space. This property provides a large enough area for our immediate need as well as the future needs associated with our vision to be a church that plants churches and trains church planters. COMMUNITY CENTER This property could function as a community center to facil- itate daily ministry and long-term service to multiple church plants. YOUTH MINISTRY This property sits in a prime location for local students and families to access. (Children, Teen Discipleship, and Activity) Because the building already facilitates safe and secure children and youth ministry, it provides immediate space for ministering to young people in a variety of ways. COLLEGE MINISTRY Salt Lake City is also home to 17 colleges and Universities. Three of the largest, Salt Lake Community College campuses, Westminster, and University of Utah represent 63,000 students and are all located within 4 miles of this property. MERCY MINISTRY Because of the location of this facility, we can see the Lord developing an efective means of ministering mercy in the city through community counseling services, ESL classes, af- ter-school tutoring, addiction recovery, etc. CENTER FOR THE ARTS We can see this facility used as a community music hall includ- ing private lessons, choral groups. This could simultaneously provide job opportunities for ministry co-laborers serving as tentmakers. MINISTRY ADVANCE WEEKENDS We plan to host ministry advance weekends during Septem- ber and October 2014 for potential ministry partners to come to Salt Lake City to see rst hand the strategic nature of the mission, experience interaction with the leadership team, and consider partnering nancially. RELOCATION TIMELINE We are praying that God would make a way to allow us to transition from our current location to a new ministry space by the Spring of 2015.
