The Superior General s Month of June We report on the Superior Generals activities. On 7 and 8 June, he travelled to the Region of Puglia in Italy together with Giuseppe Carulli, for a meeting of the Vincentian Family of southern Italy. Father Gregory showed his delight at the presence of such a large turnout 770 persons met and invited them to follow in Saint Vincents footsteps, which have not lost their relevance. Today he continues being our inspiration in the service to the Church, Father Gregory affirmed in his talk. During the meeting there was a pleasant dialog, in which, the Superior General responded to concerns related to the Vincentian Family and invited its members to make our spirituality present in todays world, keeping the reality of the poor in Italy in mind in a special way. The dialog also took other topics into account, such as systemic change; the importance of living charity; not giving alms, but giving a hand in order that the person assume his own situation of poverty. Father Gregory also spoke about the importance of collaboration among the different branches of the Vincentian Family, adding that, all over the world, we share the history and tradition of a great family. For this reason, we cannot lose sight of the inheritance that we have received from our holy founders and of being servants of our lords and masters, those who live in situations of poverty. It is important that the value of trust grow among us, he insisted, especially so that the poor invite us to be their friends and we can establish another type of relationship based on love. The day concluded by celebrating Pentecost with a festive Eucharist. At that time there was a great moment of prayer asking for the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but especially beseeching that the Vincentian Family be filled with love, peace, and truth. Later he took part in a meeting in Paris organized for the Vincentian Family Collaborative Action Program (VFCAP). From there, Father Gregory went to Angola in Africa, from the 16 th to the 19 th , to visit the international mission, where there are three confreres: Jos Mara Nieto, Jos Ramrez Martnez, and Jason Cristian Soto Herrera. The Congregation has been present in this region for more than a year already and it was the first visit made there. On 29 June, Bishop Benjamin Ramaroson received the archiepiscopal pallium from the hands of Pope Francis at Saint Peters Basilica in Rome.
2 2 That same day we bid farewell to Giuseppe Carulli, who served as administrator of the General Curia for the past three years. At the same time we welcomed Mario di Carlo, who takes up this role for the upcoming period. In the celebration of the Eucharist and the lunch that followed, the Superior General, expressed his gratitude to Father Giuseppe for his good service to the Curia during these three years, and conveyed his welcome to Father Mario. That same day, in the evening, Father Gregory left for Lizzano in Belvedere to a house of the Daughters of Charity, to make his annual spiritual retreat together with Jorge Luis Rodrguez. This activity extended into the first week of July. Vi ncenti an Famil y Coll aborati ve Acti on Program (VFCAP) Supported by the Vincentian Family Collaboration Commission (CCFV), the Vincentian Family Collaborative Action Program was held in Paris from 8-14 June in the Motherhouse of the Congregation of the Mission. The goal of the VFCAP was to facilitate and strengthen the process of collaboration among the branches of the Vincentian Family in service of persons living in poverty situations. The intended results were to increase awareness among participants of the urgent need to collaborate, as well as providing the necessary skills to do so more effectively. Taking part were 53 people from 35 countries belonging to the following branches: AIC, SSVP, DC, CM, MISEVI, JMV, AMM, Daughters of Charity of Zagreb, VFHI (Vincentian Family Haiti Initiative), Sisters of Charity of Saint Joan Antida, Adamson University, Depaul International, All Hallows, Niagara University, St. Johns University, Sisters of Charity Federation, Sisters of Charity of Strasbourg. In the preparation and development of the program, the specialized personnel of the Vincentian Universities, who have been supporting the program, were involved in the design of the thematic approach, proposed methodology, and final realization. Three language teams (Portuguese, Spanish, and English) were formed. These will be responsible for adapting and expanding the knowledge acquired in their regions and promoting collaboration as an alternative integration of the Vincentian Family in favor of the poor.
3 Let us l ook at some testimonies Katarina Mazrov, Slovakia, JMV I feel very lucky to have been able to participate in this collaboration program, because I can share it with other branches of the Vincentian Family in my country. I think it is true that we can improve collaboration and we have much to learn. This experience has helped me a lot to understand that collaboration plans can be developed and how to do it. I believe that we can serve better when we collaborate among ourselves. Ribel Elias, Lebanon, MISEVI As a member of MISEVI in Lebanon and on the international level, this program was very enlightening and useful in terms of collaboration with respect to the richness existing in the branches of Vincentian Family and how essential it is to collaborate at regional, national, and international levels to work for the poor. So what I learned here is that if we want to work effectively for the poor we have to know and grow more in the spirit of collaboration and use the local resources we have in our community and also in ourselves. Bernadette Ah-Moy Ramaroson, Madagascar, AIC I am very happy to have been here for the session because I have learned a lot of things, some things that I had already known, but now there is a better understanding of these things. And secondly is that I could visit some places where St. Vincent and other people who have worked with him have gone and it is an encouragement for me to go ahead. And I think the session will help me to become a trainer and then I can help others to understand better that our goal in our mission is to make a better life for all the people we are in charge of. Rafael Isharianto, Indonesia, CM I am helped to find the way to be more creative and more visible in my service for those people who live in poverty. And I feel enriched by the skills offered by the community to be more effective in serving our brothers and sisters who live in such poverty. Genevieve Bonny, Haiti, VFHI JMV This week was very enlightening for me from the work through our heritage going back to our roots and from the way the training was designed and especially from all the participants, who are from diverse cultures, different countries, and different backgrounds and experience, and it was very enlightening to me and it really gives me more capacity so that I can continue the mission and be able to serve those that are in need of our help. Really going back home, going back to my region, in my mission, it will be very different. This training not only changed my way of seeing things, and my mission, but also in my professional and personal life. So I am very grateful for having the chance to share that with others and to take it from others and to put it into my mission. Margarita Henao, Colombia, SSVP The meeting of the Vincentian Family in Paris had a special importance for the SSVP because it brought us closer to other branches of the Family and together we learned more about our roots. It was very exciting and significant to have it come from the hand of the priests and the Vincentian University professors to where not only the tomb of Frederick Ozanam is, but also part of the origins of our Society. I am sure that the work of Vincentian formation we plan to do together from now on will have a great impact on the people we serve in the world and especially in Central and South America.
4 In the headquarters of the Port Authority of Brindisi, on Sunday, 8 June, the members of the Vincentian Family of southern Italy, the Region of Puglia, met to experience a day of reflection and conviviality, with the theme, Does Saint Vincent still inspire us today in the service of the Church? The 750 participants came from the different centers of the region and also enjoyed the participation of Gregory Gay, Superior General. It was the first time that all the members of the branches of the Vincentian Family of Puglia were present: CM, DC, SSVP, JMV, AMM and other groups of the Vincentian Volunteers (AIC).
After a moment of great spirituality, lived in prayer, the work of the day began under the direction of Giuseppe Martinelli, who invited every branch to present itself. After the presentations, the Superior General took the floor and, in his intervention, called all to joy, smiling, and sharing, but mainly to experiencing fraternal love with infinite mercy. He values the sign of the cross, because with this gesture we indicate the unity of the love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Thanks to Saint Vincent, affirmed Father Gregory, the Vincentians have found Christ and the poor. The meeting with the poor must be clearly preceded by the meeting with Christ, in the Word and in the Eucharist. To be a Vincentian today is a way of being, he added. The seal of the Vincentian Family is Love Charity, the real Christian is reflected in the happiness of love. Only the dimension of love can make us happy because each of us is a revelation of the infinite love of God and of his tenderness. Christ, continued Father Gregory, must become the protagonist of our history. Faith must never be absent among the members of the Vincentian Family and in God; we must bear in mind our own history, which helps to enrich us, and always be good news for those in difficulty. Finally, Father Gregory answered some questions formulated by the different branches present. After sharing a fraternal lunch, the meeting concluded with the Eucharistic celebration.
Maria Donata, AMM, Italy V i n c e n t i a n F a mi l y d a y i n P u g l i a THE MISEVI UMBRELLA On 14-15 June, the meeting of the Vincentian Lay Missionaries was held in Quercianella in the region of Livorno, Italy, using the topic Go to serve without fear, with representatives from Sardinia, Campania, Tuscany, Lazio, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Eritrea, Brazil, and Venezuela. The meeting began with the greeting of Eli Chaves Dos Santos, Assistant for the Vincentian Family, who, in the name of Father Gregory, presented the hope that this event might be part of the Vincentian way and could be the beginning of the establishment of MISEVI Italy.
5 The reflections were guided by Zeracristos Yosief, Eli Chaves, and Nicola Albanesi. Each of them delivered his message bearing in mind the audience composed of young and adult laity with missionary experience, together with Daughters of Charity and priests. The aim of the meeting was: To think about MISEVI with an Italian face. The Vincentian Family is by nature missionary; it has a charism and a spirituality and, especially, a common inheritance: the poor. It is the poor who give a face to the Vincentian Family and, in finding them, we find Jesus Christ. To find them it is necessary to walk and to walk we must go out and, as Pope Francis says, to go out it is necessary to go through the streets of the world in search of the most remote and excluded and this is done by the tenderness of which the Vincentian Family has become a bearer. The lay Vincentian, who embraces a missionary style, goes in search of being formed by Jesus, who indicates the route to take, but above all of being, which calls for a profound witness to bring to others the love of Jesus in a permanent state of mission. As laity, the members of MISEVI represent an awakening of the missionary spirit and, as dedicated people, an opportunity to regenerate and to reinforce the Vincentian charism in the Vincentian Family in Italy and in the world. MISEVI is an expression of the wealth of the Holy Spirit in the Church. It is like a great umbrella under which the laity find themselves. They develop Vincentian formation; collaborate among themselves in missionary work, under the umbrella of the Vincentian charism. The service of the Vincentian lay missionaries includes the proclamation of the Word that liberates, that promotes action, prophecy, and creativity against injustice. The missionary must always be in harmony with these three notes. The boldness for this new missionary impulse does not come automatically, but has to be sought and found in the hearts and minds that are not afraid of abandoning the attitude of self-preservation (it is always done like that), this boldness that leads us to broaden our thinking to understand how much we can exert ourselves. If we can do nothing of ourselves, we can do everything with God. What can the mission do? The mission can do anything because we have in us the seeds of the omnipotence of Jesus Christ. Thats why no one can excuse himself on the grounds of his powerlessness; well always have greater strength than is needed (Saint Vincent, CCD, XI, 193). We must stop being attached to rules, to setting ourselves up as relentless judges. I would much rather a broken Church than a sick Church. Find the dimension of the Church by going out, as Pope Francis said to us. Boldness makes us walk paths we do not know, but it leads us to the essence of the human and spiritual history of the Vincentian Family through new languages and ways of serving the poor. We rediscover the mission of the Church by going out. Under the MISEVI umbrella, Saint Vincent is the model and inspiration of missionary service. With him we must learn to read the reality of the poor in the light of faith and live the experience of meeting Jesus, who came to announce the Good News to the poor, to identify his disfigured face with theirs. Let us pray that, the way followed by MISEVI, continue with the collaboration of all: south, center, and north Italy. We all are invited to support MISEVI Italys formation with courage, humility, joy, and simplicity. There are challenges to be overcome. Let us be realistic, but without losing joy, boldness, and dedication full of hope! Let us not destroy missionary strength! (Pope Francis). Lucia Scrimali Association: At the Well of Sychar
6 BISHOP BENJAMIN-MARC BALTHASON RAMAROSON CM, ANTSIRANANA - MADAGASCAR. On the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, His Holiness, Pope Francis, imposed the archiepiscopal pallium on our confrere, Bishop Benjamin Marc Balthason Ramaroson of Antsiranana, Madagascar. Bishop Ramaroson was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Farafangana on 26 November 2005 and Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Antsiranana on 27 November 2013 by Pope Francis. He took possession on 25 January of the present year. The Archdiocese has an area of 37,924 sq. km.; 1,532,457 inhabitants, 404,393 Catholics, 60 diocesan priests. At the ceremony, 23 other metropolitan Archbishops received the pallium together with Bishop Benjamin. In his homily, Pope Francis invited the Bishops not to be afraid, but to put complete confidence in the Lord: We, affirmed the Pope dear brother bishops, are we afraid? Of what are we afraid? And if we are, do we seek refuge in our pastoral life for security? Do we look maybe for the support of those who have power in this world? Or do we deceive ourselves by pride that seeks gratification and recognition, and there we seem to be safe? Dear brother bishops, in what do we put our security? The testimony of the Apostle Peter the Pope added reminds us that our true refuge is confidence in God: it dispels all fear and makes us free from slavery and all worldly temptation. Today, the Bishop of Rome and other bishops, especially the Metropolitans who have received the pallium, are challenged by the example of Peter to verify our trust in the Lord, he said in his homily. On 29 June, there was a Eucharist, followed by a farewell luncheon for Giuseppe Carulli, who will assume the mission in Cagliari, Province of Sardinia. At the same time, a welcome was extended to Father Mario, from the Province of Rome, who already had been administrator of the General Curia in another period and is repeating this service for a second time. Most recently, he was at the house in Florence. Farewel l to Gi useppe Carul li and wel come to Mari o Di Carl o
7 From 30 June to 5 July the annual meeting of COVIAM, the Conference of Visitors of Africa and Madagascar, was held in Alexandria, Egypt. Taking part were: three Visitors (Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Madagascar); one Vice-Visitor (Mozambique); two Regional Superiors (Cameroon of Paris and Rwanda- Burundi of Colombia), and one Mission Superior (Kenya of the Western USA). Absent were: the Visitors of Eritrea and Congo and the Regional Superior of Tanzania (of South India). We had the company of Zeracristos Yosief, Assistant General.
The three topics treated were: first, the project of common theology for all the Vincentian seminarians of Africa and Madagascar; for various reasons it will not be held in Kenya, but in Nigeria, where it will begin with the first year in September 2015; second, the formation of formators will be held in the Cameroon in 2015 and will consist of six continuous weeks and not of four in two consecutive years, as has been carried out until now; third, the mission in Chad, which is the responsibility of COVIAM through the Visitor of Nigeria. P. Nstor Gmez, CM Rwanda Burundi Meeting of COVI AM (16 July). Impressive and magnificent, the storm Glenda rushed at some regions of the Philippines and came to the community of De Paul House where the theologate is. These storms always are extraordinary, due to their force and tenacity. It had been announced for Metro Manila between 4:00-9:00 a.m. and the timeframe was almost exact. Although it turned and came down the West Philippine Sea, still it did much damage in the region of Bicol and Southern Tagalog and some in Metro Manila. For approximately an hour, its impressive howling winds roamed, like a huge and angry animal. It was magnificent in the form in which it was moving to and fro and making the trees dance, knocking some of them to the ground. Our dear Narra Tree (national tree), which was just opposite the house, fought bravely for approximately 45 minutes, but it succumbed to Glendas impressive and magnificent strength and, finally, the tree was ripped from the ground by the wind. The Sanctuary was struck with minimal damage to its ceiling, but a big investment has to be made for the repair. Other houses turned out to be slightly affected by Glenda; in Thirteen Martyrs it also knocked down some trees; Angn is without trees too; the beautiful Tower of the Miraculous Medal (Sucat) was lightly damaged. Our Mission Center in Cadlan was slightly damaged and the road from Cadlan to Manila remained full of rubble. P. Rolando Delagoza, CM, Philippines Typhoon Gl enda, Phil i ppi nes
8 After the week of spiritual retreat, the Superior General was in Paris from 15-22 July at the Meeting of the Advisors, who accompany the young people of the Vincentian Marian Youth. Present were Daughters of Charity, Missionaries, and laity who carry out this role in many places where they find the JMV present. After this event, JMVs International Council had its meeting, initiating with it the preparation for its General Assembly, which will be held in 2015. On 30 July, Father Gregory travelled to the United States for his vacation, accompanied by Brother Ivn Hueichn who will spend one week with him before traveling to Chile, his province of origin. Brother Ivn served for three years in the General Curia. The Superior General expressed his gratitude to Brother and to the Province of Chile for allowing his presence in the Curia during these years. During the vacation period, Father Gregory will carry out other activities too and take part in some important acts of the Congregation and the Vincentian Family in the United States. On 31 July, he will preside at the Eucharist opening the Internal Seminary, in the Provincial House of the Eastern Province; this stage of formation opens with four seminarians and is under the direction of Orlando de Jess Cardona, originally from Colombia and who belongs to this province. On Sunday, 3 August, Father Gregory will celebrate the Eucharist in two parishes of the city of Baltimore: Immaculate Concepcion, which is the first parish in the United States dedicated to Our Lady under this title, and Saint Cecilia; both parishes are the responsibility of the confreres of the Eastern Province. On 15 August, he will visit Emmitsburg to celebrate the Eucharist in the Basilica of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton for the Feast of the Assumption. From the 22 nd to the 24 th , he will be in Chicago at De Paul University for a meeting with some confreres of the United States; a confrere from Nicaragua; and a Daughter of Charity from Guatemala, who is studying English; as well as taking the occasion to participate in the granting of a degree to a confrere from Ethiopia, who is finishing his doctorate at this University. At the end of his vacation, Father Gregory will begin, on 29 August, a tour to visit the Daughters of Charity in South Korea and the confreres and Daughters of Charity in Japan. The Superi or General s Acti vi ti es i n the Month of Jul y FIRST INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF JMV ADVISORS PARI S 2014 From 15-20 July 2014, the First International Meeting of JMV Advisors was held in Paris, France, with the aim of encouraging, forming, and orienting the lay and religious advisers in this wonderful ministry of advising. There were participants from 34 countries of America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

We began with words of welcome from Yasmine Cajuste, JMVs International President; Sister Evelyne Franc, Superioress General of the Daughters of Charity; and Gregory Gay, JMVs International Director. The 92 participants of this meeting started the day with Eucharist in the Chapel of the Apparitions of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, continued with presentations, and, in the afternoon, had workshops. The formation topics included: Lay Advising, Art and Accompaniment, Formation and Lay Advising in JMV, and How to Respond to the Challenges of Youth. These were complemented with workshops in which personal experiences from ones reality were shared. All the days of work were very rich. The grace of this meeting was to be able to participate in an Experience of Marian Spirituality during the Vigil of 18 July in the place where the history of the Sons and Daughters of Mary began. It was a moment of great feeling on finding ourselves from different parts of the world at the feet of the Virgin. It was also a moment of renewal so as to try each day to respond to the mission entrusted by our Mother as Saint Catherine Labour did. Another point that helped in the formation was to visit Vincentian places and to understand, as advisors of new generations, the work that our saints did in their epoch. The night before the closing we had a fraternal sharing among all the delegations: every countrys participant presented a cultural act. On Sunday morning we did an evaluation and a final document, at which we all will work until the next International Assembly in Salamanca in 2015. We gave thanks to God at the Eucharist for this time of formation. Carito Mena, JMV, International Secretariat THE MEETING OF YOUNG VINCENTIANS IN KRAKOW July 29 to August 1, 2014
10 Proposed theme of the meeting, although quite broad, was "The universality of the Congregation of the Mission." The first approach to this goal we had in the morning, July 29 during the conference by Father Stanislav Zontak, Assistant General on the situation of the Congregation of the Mission in the world. With Italian humor and adequate knowledge of reality, Fr. Zontak brought our feet on the ground to let us know the places where the Congregation is currently present and some future projects. We had another conference in the morning, Saint Vincent, the Prophet of Universality by Father Pawel Holc, Rector of the Institute of Theology (Vincentian major seminary) and Superior of the Provincial House. The presentation helped us understand the term of universality basing on the notions of prophecy and mission, the dimensions proper to the Congregation of the Mission which require to manifest if it wants to meet various cultures and Church realities in the word. Morning conferences took us to work in groups with the topic: What does it mean to be a spiritual son of Saint Vincent in the world today? Responses were given in various languages of the participants, what proved the universality of our Congregation. Spanish and Italian were official languages of the meeting since philosophical and theological formation of most of the Confreres was in Italian and many of them learned Spanish participating in missions in Latin American countries. Young Confreres from Eastern European provinces and their will to go on the mission surprised other participants. We listened to Visitor of Poland who said: I have set the contract with God. I will send a missionary to the farthest part of the world and He will give me two vocations Until now, two dyed our promise. Wednesday, July 30, was a busy and interesting day. Collaboration between provinces was the topic of the conference. This presentation took into account reconfiguration processes under way in some provinces in the world and the way the projects focused on consolidating strength and simplifying processes of sharing experiences, structures and difficulties. While this conference echoed the first one by Father Zontak we found that collaboration has some limits, especially when we discuss the issue of common interprovincial Internal Seminary and theologate. There is a vision of things in the air, but only when the provinces decide to continue various common projects to evaluate and correct errors, which have been made so far. In the afternoon of July 30 we visited the Shrine of Devine Mercy and John Paul II Center as well as the Good News educational center in Piekary near Krakow, a magnificent work in service of the youth, children and families and beautiful education goal for the best of the Poor. In the evening we visited Vincentinum retreat center in Krzeszowice, not far away form Krakow, too. There we had a party time celebration. Thursday, July 31 was marked by the conference of Giuseppe Turati, Secretary General on systemic change, a universal methodology. We were given some examples enabling us to use this method in the work with the Poor. On Friday, August 1, the final day of the meeting we were pleased to have the conference by Fr. Claudio Santangelo on Universality of the Congregation of the Mission: a dialog with other religions. Fr. Claudio lead us to take part in his reflection on dialog with Islam based on St. Vincents attitude and his ability to see another face of Christ. At the end of that morning, Fr. Pavle Novak, Visitor of Slovenia and the President of CEVIM invited us to continue the reflection and grow up in our Vincentian vocation. At the end of our meeting we visited the salt mine in Wieliczka. The ink in the pen could describe many events, but as always something must be left for another time. Alexis Cerquera, CM, Pars

People of God is a TV Spanish channel, which broadcast the program, started by one very famous priest Father Jos Luis Martn Descalzo. The channel People of God gives informations and documentary about the work done bye people and institutions of Catholic Church inside and outside the Spanish borders. In a Christian perspective, the program talks about different topics and takes into account four criteria: social criticism, respect of the socials excluded, testimony of people working with the disadvantaged convinced that its possible to build a better world. People of God wants to show how far have gone the missionary activity of Catholic Church, the sense of religious vocation, the importance of volunteering and the fate of economic aid from Spanish solidarity across different religious institutions. Throughout these years, the People of God has visited the poorest countries on five continents. It featured the testimony of more than 5000 people interviewed during this time: missionaries, volunteers and donors who share their life with the protagonists of our stories. In the link http://www.rtve.es/television/pueblo-de-dios/africa/ you can watch what the Spanish TV documentary has made for our mission of Mozambique, for the Daughters of Charity and Vincentians missionaries working in that country. The program are in Spanish and also available in the web site. People of God Mari o di Carlo s 40th anni versary On 20 July in the General Curia, we celebrated, one day in advance, the priestly anniversary of Mario di Carlo. During a heartfelt ceremony, he shared with the present community, using the Word of God, his testimony of these 40 years of ministerial life in the Congregation and his diverse ministries among which he highlighted being Visitor of the Province of Rome and Director of the Daughters of Charity. He also shared the challenge of the new mission that has been entrusted to him. The event culminated with a simple appetizer and a delicious, very Italian, lunch.
12 B. Ivn Huehichn, CM B. Gerardo Fajardo, CM On Sunday, 27 July, we gathered to bid farewell to Brother Jos Ivn Hueichn Snchez, of the Province of Chile. As already mentioned, he served in the General Curia for the last three years. With the Eucharist and a tasty lunch, we expressed gratitude and best wishes to our Chilean companion on his return to his native country. We take advantage of this occasion to welcome Brother Gerardo Fajardo from the Province of the Philippines, who takes up the mission that Brother Ivn covered. To both of them, thank you very much for your availability and dedication. Farewel l and Wel come HISTORY OF THE VINCENTIAN TRANSLATION PROJECT The Vincentian Translation Project was begun in 1973 at the insistence of the then Superior General, James W. Richardson. He encouraged the Visitors of the United States to see to the translation and publication of Pierre Costes French collection of the Correspondence, Conferences, and Documents relating to Saint Vincent de Paul. The project struggled to get off the ground, but it was eventually decided to begin with the letters, which had been roughly translated, but never published. The first volume of Correspondence finally appeared in 1985. Unfortunately the editor died and the project was slowed again. The second volume of Correspondence was published in 1989 and the remaining six volumes came out over the next decade. It was then decided to work on the volume of Documents, which had never been translated, whereas the Conferences to the Vincentians and Daughters of Charity already had been translated and published by a British confrere, but would need updating. With the addition of many previously unpublished documents, this volume appeared in print as two books (13A and 13B) in 2003. After that, the two two-volume sets of Conferences to the Daughters of Charity and the Congregation of the Mission were published between 2004 and 2010. For the past five years, work has been proceeding on the final volume, the annotated Index of the previous 13 volumes. The series is not a simple translation of the original French. Much scholarly research went into determining the location of the existing correspondence and updating the footnotes so as to make 17 th century French people, places, and terminology comprehensible to the English-speaking world of the 20 th and 21 st
centuries.
13 Father John Carven (Eastern Province USA) took on that latter task and carried it through from beginning to end. Sister Marie Poole, DC, has been involved in the translation of all the volumes and has served as editor of Volumes 2-14. A number of other confreres and Daughters of Charity worked on the project over the years, serving as consultants, translators, readers, and editorial assistants. The project was initially financed by the ten provinces of Daughters of Charity and Vincentians in the United States, along with some contributions from other English-speaking provinces and institutions. The National Conference of Visitors (USA) has sponsored this work from the outset and has seen to the funding necessary to draw it to completion. The final volume of the English edition of Saint Vincent de Paul: Correspondence, Conferences, Documents is now available. Volume 14, the annotated Index of all previous volumes of the series, completes the set, which is newly translated, edited, and annotated from the French edition of Pierre Coste, C.M. Published by New City Press (Hyde Park, New York) it can be obtained through the translation office: Vincentian Translation Project; 333 S Seton Ave; Emmitsburg, Maryland 21727; USA; vincentinenglish@gmail.com.
