Summarize of the Introduction Chapter.
In the Introduction to They Say/I Say: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing, Gerald Graff and
Cathy Birkenstein provide templates designed to create or structure youre own writing. Specifically,
Graff and Birkenstein argue that the types of writing templates they offer is more for the academic
world. For student to create and perfect there essay. As the authors themselves put it, They Say, I Say.
Although some people believe that doing this template for their essay can take away their creativity.
Graff and Birkenstein insist that doing templates from this book are not something from third grade, it
take practice and time to master this templates and use the successfully. In sum, then, their view is that
this book is design to help you become a better writer when it comes to essays, argument and other
kind of writing.
I agree with the idea of this book. In my view, not many peoples have the ability to create essay that
easy. Some of the need at least something to begging with because they are not a fan reading. In
addition, they may be lazy. Some might object, of course, on the grounds that doing template tends to
control there creativity when writing argument or essay. Yet I would argue that if youre good at what
you do, you would have any problems doing a template. Overall, then, I believe that template is good
because they give you a head start just like now and it make it easy to do and essay, argument or other
thing that have to do with compositions. That is why I see it as a good thing.
