Speech Outline #2: Why is bad being too honest?

I. Introduction

A. Hook (appetizer): as hook use the Oscar Wilde quote A little sincerity is a dangerous
thing, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal.

B. Thesis: Sometime its better to be silent or tell something nice, instead of hurt someone
feelings with the truth. The truth in total honesty can offend and despite nobody like
liars, nobody like rude and impolite people as well.


II. Body

A. When you are too honest you can hurt people feelings

1. Explanation
a. Sometimes you can say something that wont be nice to someone and in
this case the best thing is to be silent, instead of being that honest. Some
truths dont need to be said.

2. Examples
a. Ex. #1: you say to someone that the looks like older than he really is, people
generally dont appreciate that.
b. Ex. #2: you upbraid something on them, like you say: you did it but not
without my help on this and that.

B. When you are too honest you can be annoying

1. Explanation
a. In some cases you can seem like an extremely talkative person. These
factors can make you to be unpleasant what keep people away from you.

2. Examples
a. Ex. #1: When the firm where you work is not in the best moment and you
are always talking about people who can get fired.





C. Being too honest can keep people and opportunities away

1. Explanation
a. You cant know how people could react about an opinion of yours and
sometimes when you honest about everything you can seem as a realist
person, and a realist person can seem like a pessimist person.

2. Examples:
a. Ex. #1: A work where you have to deal with people and be nice with them,
you couldnt successful that and maybe no one would think about you to
put you in there.

D. Refutation & counterargument: People always say that nobody like to be lied. People
demand sincerity and dont think they cant deal with it and cant support this all the
time, creating just a hypocrite argument about honesty.

III. Conclusion

A. Overview/Restatement of thesis: Honesty is an effort, that beside of be unpleasant, to
who is saying as well to who is listening, can be also useless and compromising. Some
things you just dont want to know about.

B. Dessert (Choose a different idea from the list): Honesty its like a medicine, its good in
small doses.
