Layers of SAP BI
ETL : Extraction , Transformation , Loading
Source System : The system from where we load the data into BI.
Ex: Flat Files , Non-SAP , SAP .
Extractor : Extractors is a data retrieval mechanisms which can fill the extract structure of a
data source with the data from the source system.
PSA : After being extracted from a source system, data is transferred to the entry layer of
Warehouse, the persistent staging area (PSA). The data from the source system is stored
unchanged in this layer. It provides the backup status at a granular level .
Data Target : A data target is an object into which data is loaded. Data targets are the
physical objects that are relevant during data modeling and when loading the data.
Ex: Cube, ODS , Infoobject

Infocube
1. Cube : Its multidimensional table, just as Star Schema which has Facts &
Dimensions. It has aggregated data.

Operational Data Store Object
2. ODS : Operational Data Store is just like two dimensional table. It has data in more
granular level. An ODS object contains key fields (for example, document number/item) and
data fields that can also contain character fields (for example, order status, customer) as
key figures
.

Info Object
3. Infoobject : InfoObjects are the basic information providers of BW. They structure
the information needed to create data targets. They are divided into characteristics, key
figures, units, time characteristics and technical characteristics

Open Hub
The open hub service enables to distribute data from an SAP BW system into
external data marts, analytical applications, and other applications. With this, you
can ensure controlled distribution using several systems.
Through the open hub service, SAP BW becomes a hub of an enterprise data
warehouse. The distribution of data becomes clear through central monitoring
from the distribution status in the BW system.
