Election Central
2014 Central Poll: Walker in Tight Re-Election Race Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) is neck-and-neck with Democratic challenger Mary Burke for his re-election race this November, a new Marquette Law School poll finds. The poll, released Wednesday, Burke, former state Commerce Secretary, at 49% to Walkers 47%, a lead within the margin of error. Burke is attempting to use her business experience, focusing on the incumbents job record, while Walker is tying Burke to the governor she served on as commerce secretary, the unpopular Democrat Jim Doyle. 2016 Central Poll: Mitt Romney Leads GOP Iowa Caucuses When Mitt Romneys name was added to a polling of Iowa voters for the 2016 Republican presidential caucuses, 35% of those polled said they would vote for Romney. No other candidate even received double-digits, with the distant second place spot occupied by Mike Huckabee, another former presidential candidate, who received 9%. Gov. Chris Christie (NJ) came in third place, just ahead of former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Tied for fifth place were Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul with 5%. 10% answered undecided.
Romney, who already has two presidential campaigns under his belt, has always denied the possibility of a third, but hasnt quite slammed the door. I had the chance of running, he said Tuesday on The Hugh Hewitt Show. I didnt win. Someone else has a better chance than I do. And thats what we believe, and thats why Im not running. However, Ronmney noted: Circumstances can change.

Gabes Bookshelf
Summer Reading This summer I read An Idea Whose Time Has Come: Two Presidents, Two Parties, and the Battle for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by Todd S. Purdum; John Quincy Adams: American Visionary by Fred Kaplan; America's Prophet: Moses and the American Story by Bruce Feiler; and Hard Choices by Hillary Clinton, among others! Im not going to reviews on all of them, but will say they were all great and I strongly suggest each if you are interested in the Civil Rights era (An Idea Whose Time Has Come), John Quincy Adams and Americas founding years (John Quincy Adams), American-Jewish history (Americas Prophet), and/or current events and foreign policy from a slightly biased but still interesting perspective (Hard Choices). Your Bookshelf Its not just about my bookshelf: its about your bookshelf too! Did you read any politics or history books over the summer? If so, email me the titles at wakeuptopolitics@gmail.com and Ill feature them in this column!
Question of the Day
Yesterdays Answer On Wednesday, I asked about the birth states of the non-LBJ presidents who counted Texas as their home states. The two other presidents that applied were George H.W. Bush, and his son, George W. Bush. The former was born in Massachusetts, and the latter in Connecticut. GREAT JOBBobby Frauenglas, who answered both correctly, and Joe Bookman, who submitted the second answer! Great job both of you and thanks for answering!
