DESCRIPTION
Each DI- 5B47 thermocoupl e i nput modul e provi des a
si ngl e channel of thermocoupl e i nput whi ch i s fi l tered,
i sol ated, ampl i fi ed, l i neari zed and converted to a hi gh
l evel anal og vol tage output (see bl ock di agram). Thi s
vol tage output i s l ogi c swi tch control l ed, whi ch al l ows
these modul es to share a common anal og bus wi thout
the requi rement of external mul ti pl exers.
The DI- 5B modul es are desi gned wi th a compl etel y
i sol ated computer si de ci rcui t whi ch can be fl oated to
50V from Power Common, pi n 16. Thi s compl ete
i sol ati on means that no connecti on i s requi red between
I/ O Common and Power Common for proper operati on
of the output swi tch. If desi red, the output swi tch can be
turned on conti nuousl y by si mpl y connecti ng pi n 22,
the Read- Enabl e pi n to I/ O Common, pi n 19.
The DI- 5B47 can i nterface to ei ght i ndustry standard
thermocoupl e types: J, K, T, E, R, S, N, and B. Its
correspondi ng output si gnal operates over a 0 to +5V
range. Each modul e i s col d- j uncti on compensated to
correct for parasi ti c thermocoupl es formed by the
thermocoupl e wi re and screw termi nal s on the mounti ng
hardware. Upscal e open thermocoupl e detect i s provi ded
by an i nternal pul l - up resi stor. Downscal e i ndi cati on
can be i mpl emented by i nstal l i ng an external 47M
resi stor, 20% tol erance, between screw termi nal s 1
and 3.
Si gnal fi l teri ng i s accompl i shed wi th a si x- pol e fi l ter
whi ch provi des 95dB of normal - mode- rej ecti on at 60Hz
and 90dB at 50Hz. Two pol es of thi s fi l ter are on the
fi el d si de of the i sol ati on barri er, and the other four are
on the computer si de.
After the i ni ti al fi el d- si de fi l teri ng, the i nput si gnal i s
chopped by a propri etary chopper ci rcui t. Isol ati on i s
provi ded by transformer coupl i ng, agai n usi ng a
propri etary techni que to suppress transmi ssi on of
common mode spi kes or surges. The modul e i s powered
from +5VDC, 5%.
A speci al ci rcui t i n the i nput stage of the modul e
provi des protecti on agai nst acci dental connecti on of
power- l i ne vol tages up to 240VAC.
