Class Overview
Sociology is the science that studies human society and social behavior. This course will begin by focusing
on the development of sociology as a science as well as current perspectives on how and why we behave as a
large group. We will then study the various types of deviant behavior as well as the sociological
explanations for why such behavior occurs. Next we will concentrate on social stratification, paying special
attention to the class system in the US. We will then look in to minority groups in society and the
challenges they face. We will then turn our attention to how society influences the development of
individuals. inally we will focus on cultural diversity and how people conform and adapt to a variety of
different cultural expectations. Students will be expected to apply the sociological concepts learned to
their own lives.

information you present as well as the manner in which you present it. There will be both individual
