The Climax of a Perfect Plan
1 Corinthians 2.1-5
A proper focus
The church must define proper priorities .
Paul identifies the gospel message as a primary point of emphasis
The church must direct peoples attention to the power in a crucified Christ.
Do we sometimes misplace our focus on Paul the messenger ?
He freely admits he has no eloquence in his speech, nor superior wisdom.
We must renew our focus on Christ the message !
Faith must not rest on mens wisdom but on Gods power .
A closer look at the cross
Consider the dawning of Gods perfect plan which includes a cross .
The curse on the serpent (Genesis 3.15) is that the seed of woman is to bruise its head.
Abels altar the first recorded offering is a sacrifice of blood .
Abraham offers his son, Isaac but a substitutionary ram is given in his stead.
The victim lamb, bull, dove is offered on the altar of the tabernacle and the temple.
The bronze serpent in the wilderness is erected so that people may look upon it and live .
Isaiah 53 (and similar prophecies) provides many pictures of, or allusions to, Jesus .
The Messiah is a sin-bearer, one who makes atonement for guilt.

The cross represents power and love on display.
Propitiation or appeasement is made on behalf of the sins of the people.
Atonement or reconciliation satisfies the demands of God, making amends for sin.
What about us?
Are we defining proper priorities for the church?
Are we successfully directing peoples attention to the
climax of Gods perfect plan the cross?
Can the world see the power and love of God on display?
