Double standards

Good Morning to my English teacher and fellow classmates. The topic for my oral
presentation today would be double standards. Double standards are the
application of diferent sets of rules for similar situations. A double standard may
take the form for instance a certain concept that is applied to a group of people
but a taboo to the others.
A double standard can therefore be described as a biased or morally unfair
application of the principle that all are equal in their freedoms. uch double
standards are seen as un!usti"ed because they #iolate a basic rue of freedom$
that all parties should stand equal before the law.
Double standards also afect the go#ernment of a society. A person higher in
rank% society or social class is forgi#en too easily for the mistakes they commit. .
A double standard #iolates this principle by holding diferent people accountable
according to diferent standards. Double standards are usually based on social
class% rank% race% age% gender and se&ual orientation
'n regard of this topic% the phrase (life is not fair( may be in#oked in order to
mollify concerns o#er double standards.
The concept of double standards has long been applied )as early as *+,-. to the
fact that diferent moral structures are often applied to men and women in
society.
/or e&ample$
A group of girls sees a male walking through a mall. They think he is attracti#e%
and make comments about him and giggle loudly. acceptable. A group of boys
see a female walking through a mall. They think she is attracti#e% and make
comments about her labeled as guys who are acting inappropriate% treating the
girl like an ob!ect.
A woman taking part in humanitarian mob "ghting for children rights or animal
rights. he is labelled as o#ersensiti#e but a man is labelled as chi#alrous and
caring.
After marriage% a married man has the duty to support his wife and the wife
doesn0t ha#e to work. This is acceptable but when the same family sur#i#es on
her pay check the man is labelled as abusi#e and taking ad#antage of woman.
'n the go#ernment% political "gures are not charged of all their wrongdoings as it
will ruin their reputation but a normal citi1en committing the same mistake would
be sentenced to the rightful !udgement.
A woman who works really hard is labelled as insensiti#e and irresponsible. A
man who works really hard at work is labelled responsible and a good husband.
A girl wanting to "nd a perfect boyfriend is labelled as normal and the girls0
beha#iour but a boy choosing the perfect girlfriend is labelled as choosy and
mean.
As a conclusion% ' would like to say that double standards are the reason why the
world is still facing the threat of war. 2umans should all be treated the same. 3e
should not be biased. 2umans should practice the law of equality among all.
