up? will they come dressed as Firemen, Policemen,
Doctors, or Teachers? However your team comes,
make sure everyone is ready to S-P-E-L-L!

Money raised from the Spelling Bee furthers our
Mission, which is to encourage, educate and equip
aspiring readers to overcome the barriers of
illiteracy, explained Melissa Struttmann, Executive
Director. This fundraiser makes up approximately

This months Tutors and
Learners Corner features
our Caring Grands
Program.

Last month 47 area senior citizens
came to CCLP for a one-day training
session conducted by reading specialist Donna
Hall.

These senior citizens, aka Caring Grands, will
go to Creek County elementary schools and
tutor with struggling 1st and 2nd grade
readers.

They help make reading fun, shared Melissa
Struttmann, Executive Director for CCLP.
These grandmas and grandpas offer
encouragement and nurturing along with one-
on-one instruction. They have a love of reading
that they want to pass along, and now they are
equipped with additional practical tips and skills from our
instructor.

CCLP is hosting a bi-monthly Tutor Talks, an opportunity for the
volunteers to engage in an open and rewarding discussion with
other tutors and CCLP staff. At these informal meetings, tutors will
be able to share success stories and offer encouragement with
fellow tutors. Tutor Talks will be held morning and evening to
accommodate schedules; the first two were held September 2.
