Costain Natural Resources, a division of Costain Group PLC, is a leading provider of
consultancy, engineering, project delivery and asset support services across the
Hydrocarbons, Chemicals, Nuclear Process, Water and Waste sectors. Graduate Design
HSE Engineers join the Front End Solutions Group which provides process safety and
environmental engineering expertise to major projects, technology development, Feasibility,
Conceptual and Front End Design studies.

The successful candidate will join the Training Program, which is accredited by the Institute
of Chemical Engineers, and is a three year training programme designed to equip graduates
with the skills and experience required to take them forward in their career with the
company. Graduate Design HSE Engineers are assigned a mentor to provide support in
your professional development and to guide you towards Chartered Engineer in PEng
(Process Safety) or CEng (IChemE). The training programme is based upon On the Job
technical development with graduates working on real work assignments under supervision
and rapidly taking on responsibility for design work.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities


The design work undertaken by Design HSE Engineers is varied and assignments
as a Graduate can include work across all project phases including Feasibility
Studies, Conceptual Design, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Detailed
Design and Site Activities as well as business rotations into Work Winning, Business
Development and Construction/Commissioning departments.
Study Work includes setting of the process safety management framework including
legislative requirements, input into technology selection, economic evaluation, input
into project schedule and cost estimates, basis of design preparation and technical
report preparation.
FEED and Detailed Design activities include: hazard identification including HAZOP,
assessment of consequences, control of hazards, risk assessment. Preparation of
safety cases and wider implications of work as a process safety practitioner
Business rotations will normally be provided into other business functions in order to
provide further breadth of experience which can include: Business
Strategy/Development, Project Engineering, Project Controls, Construction,
Commissioning and Proposals.

Person Specification


What we look for:
Self-motivated graduates possessing good communication and work organisation
skills coupled with a record of excellent academic achievement.
Minimum 2:1 BEng in an IChemE accredited Chemical Engineering degree and MSc
in an appropriate Process Safety degree
Experienced Candidates with up to 18 months experience in the field of process
safety or environmental design will be considered for entrance to the graduate
training scheme.
While the role will be predominantly based in our South Manchester Office, mobility
to work on secondment to any of our offices or project sites is required.
