Topic Selected: Light Rail construction from CBD to Kingsford
Reason for chosen topic: Interesting because its a major change for NSW transportation system
How could you research this topic?: Using council website for updates on the info and planning of the
light rail (Randwick Council), News article on the views of the locals in each area that being affected by
the building of the new light rail.
Statement: What impact does the light rail have on the area affected?

Overview:
Be built through the Sydney CBD to Randwick and Kingsford to reduce congestion and revitalize the city
The estimated cost is 1.6 billion $ and 12 kilometer long. The project will link Circular Quay and Central
via George Street, the Moore Park sporting and entertainment precinct including the Sydney Cricket
Ground and Allianz Stadium, Randwick Racecourse, the University of NSW and Prince of Wales Hospital
at Randwick.
Work on the project is expected to commence in April 2015
It is expected to take five or six years to complete
Observation:
Area such as parking lot around Kingsford is going to be replaced by rail and stations. Rail will be place around
the area of Kingsford taking in the University of NSW, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Cricket Ground and
Randwick Racecourse. Create easier access for students and people in the community to the facility such as the 4
hospitals in the area and the university (UNSW). Many shops might be closed around central Kingsford in order for
light rail construction.

Q8: Are there any changes to the transport system that you would like to happen? Please outline.
In general they would like to increase the number of buses around area that have a disperse population
because buses only come there every 20 30 minutes. This make the habitants in the area find it hard
to travel around using the transport system if they were not able to use their car. Some people also
suggested that they should employ more lively and professional bus drivers as some bus drivers are not
welcoming and sometimes even having to ask the riders for direction of the route that they are
supposed to take.
