4 Things to help improve your understanding

stereotypes

Acknowledge that you have learned information

Make a commitment to be open to change and to
be open to the process of change
Make an effort to increase your exposure to
groups that are different than your used to
Seek out information to disprove the prejudice
information you have learned

4 things teachers can do to support students
who are experiencing prejudice and being
stereotyped

Help them recognize the positive areas of their
culture and background
Include anti-prejudice activities and lessons in the
curriculum
Educate the students on stereotypes they might
come across and provide information that proves
those stereotypes wrong
Encourage the student to feel good about who they
are by having them look at themselves in the mirror
and list attributes and characteristics they like about
themself
4 things teachers can do to teach
tolerance
Incorporate lessons about celebrations in other
cultures by celebrating those days in class

people when they are speaking

students discover and learn about a variety of
cultures
Plan fieldtrips to historical places or museum that
deal with an oppressed culture and the struggles
they faced

3 things you learned from completing the cultural
test
I learned that my sensitivity for other cultures is
higher than I realized.
One area that I am going to work towards
increasing my sensitivity is integrating aspects of
other cultures in my everyday life.
By taking the test helped me realize what
aspects in particular I can work on to become
more cultural sensitive.
