Beyonce Compared to Tina Turner

My favorite artist is Beyonce. Originally I was more interested in the group that
she formally belonged to which was Destinys Child. Out of all the group members at the
time. Kelly Rowland was my favorite group member. After the group decided to split and
each member individually ventured off and focused on their own careers is when I started
to take interest into solely Beyonce. Beyonc has become the most notable in her music
career from the group to have the most prosperous music career; producing five albums
as a solo artist, receiving countless Grammy Awards, having top hits, selling out arenas
and concert performances, and most recently singing at the Presidents inauguration. It is
impossible to make myself choose a favorite song, but I can say her live performances are
ten times greater than listening to her albums.
An artist that influenced my choice artist is Tina Turner. Although her personal
love life was a tragedy, her music and musical career has proven that she was a leading
female artist during the 1970s and 1980s. Tina Turner has been named the Queen of
Rockn Roll, becoming one of the worlds most popular entertainers, just as Beyonc.
Tina Turner has also been called the most successful female rock artist and was named
one of the greatest singers of all time by Rolling Stone. Tina developed a unique stage
persona as a singer-dance-performer that thrilled audiences of the groups live concerts.
My favorite stage performance of Tina Turner would be when she performs the song
Proud Mary. When it comes to Beyonc my favorite stage performance would be when
she performs the song Single Ladies. Both of these performances are full of energy and
the mood is very up-tempo. Both artists have great dance routines that are very
unforgettable and credible to the artist. During both performances there is a great amount
of flashing lights that gives off energy to the crowd, making the performance yet again
very enjoyable.
Aretha Franklin became the reigning queen and one of the singular talents of
popular music. Just as Tina Turner did, Aretha Franklin grew up and was raised in a
Christian home and always attended church. Her father was the pastor of one of the
largest churches in Detroit and one of the most admired preachers in the African
American community. Aretha Franklin was a pop/jazz singer for Columbia Records at
the age of nineteen and later in life she suffered from countless abusive relationships.
Many of Aretha and Tinas first hits displayed the heartbreak of love, like many of the
soul ballads of each womans time. Respect, by Aretha Franklin and Shake a Tail
Feather by Tina Turner, are songs that use horns playing riffs or sustained chords. Both
songs involve an interlocked rhythm section. Both Aretha and Tina had edgy blues style
mix performance styles that often involved an aggressive guitar sound with loud horns.
Respect by Aretha Franklin and Rock Me Baby by Tina Turner is songs with thick
texture and has a melody that uses a series of short riffs. Soul music lasted less than a
decade on the chart. However, its influence has been evident every since. Soul helped to
bring a more contemporary version of the deep feeling of the blues into black music,
which is prominent in Aretha Franklin and Tina Turners music.
The OMG Girlz is an Atlanta based teenage girl group formed in 2009. Beyonc
influences many of their song styles and performance styles. The groups focus is
promoting female empowerment while having swag, intelligence, showmanship and
talent. Just as Beyonc did in the group Destinys Child, The OMG Girlz have been
lifelong friends which brings attention to the mission of the groups which is to let girls
know they can stand together as friends in positivity, true sisterhood and solidarity. Their
music has an upbeat mix of hip hop, R&B, rap and pop, all packed with girl power
messages aimed at teens just like them. Some similar songs between The OMG Girlz and
Beyonc would be Baddie by The OMG Girlz and Diva by Beyonc. Theses songs
involve a huge sense of female empowerment and ladies being able to take control. As
seen many times in the history of music, girl groups never seem to make it very long as a
group together over time. It will be interesting to see if The OMG Girlz can break this
trend.
