Declamation Pieces:

"MEMORIES"

Nothing compares to having a family, a
complete, happy family. I am proud to have
had one. Unforgettable memories of a sweet
childhood, growing up with pure love and
affection, so many people wanted to have. I
was nourished with hope, that someday I'll
have something more than I've expected.

My parents gave me everything. They wanted
me to have the best of endless possibilities. I
owe my life to them. I am nothing without
them. They are the reason why I have a
fighting spirit, to finish what I've started, to
give my best everytime and never give up in
times of troubles.

It was my time to serve them. I am young and
free, but why should I push myself to this
responsibility? Why?.....because in this life,
you can never tell when your closing
ceremony is about to arrive. But it was over
before I've started.

"God, why did you take them from me?"
"You're so unfair!"
"Why them?"
"Take me instead!"

They were gone. I am now alone. I can
honestly say, I am nothing. I don't have them
anymore.

"God, please give me a chance to embrace
them for the last time."

But I know it isn't possible. I've had a lot
chances. I just didn't make the best of it. Life
is really full of surprises , not always good
ones, some are worth tears. Deep inside my
heart, I am longing. But I should move on
with my life. Nothing could bring them back.
If the stairway to heaven is for real, I would
use it no matter how far it would take me. If
that's the only chance, then I am ready.

I salute those parents who have given their
all. The most selfless people you would ever
know. Nothing compares to the love you have
given. The perfect friends, there's nothing less.

One day, we shall meet again. Excitement
fills my broken heart. Only you could
complete me. So, when I see you, I know you're
holding the missing piece.

A Glass of Cold Water

Everybody calls me young, beautiful,
wonderful. Am I? Look at my hair, my lips,
my red rosy cheeks and a pair of blinkering
eyes.

I remember, somebody says that I look like my
mother that I look like my mother. But that
when she was young.

Now, I am much lovelier than she is. Im a
mortal Venus. Oops! What time is it? I must get
ready for the party!

Beep-beep!A-huh! Here they are! Yes, Im
coming!

"Child, are you still there?"

"Hmp! Thats my mama"

"Child, are you still there? Will you please get
me a glass of cold water?"

"Mama, Im in a hurry!"

"Please child, try to get me a glass of cold
water."

"Mama, please, try to get it on your own."

"Please child, try to get me a glass of cold
water!"

At the party, I danced and danced the whole
night.

You see, I cant leave the party at once. I have
to danced with everybody who proposed to
me. At last, the party is over. Im very tired.
Very, very tired.

So, I went home to tell mama what happened.

"Mama, Im home! Its very quiet. "Mama, Im
home!" Nobody answers.

Where is she? I look for her in the sala, but
shes not there. Where is she? A-huh! In the
kitchen!

I saw my mama, lying down on the floor,
dead. With a glass on her hand. I remember,
she tried to get it.

Oh, God, just for the glass of cold water!
Mama! Mama! Oh, Mama!

"WHEN REALITY STRIKES"

Everything starts with a dream, a dream that
can be our inspiration to accomplish our
goals. When we were children, we've always
hoped that we can serve our nation someday
and be part of the progression of our country.

I've always dreamt of being someone who
could make a difference, many people
doubted me and thought otherwise. As time
goes by, that dream faded away.
Each day was a dreadful sight, the coward
side of me that didn't dare to hold on.

I can't do it anymore. I told myself, "Why do I
have to suffer like this? It's not fair!"

Tick....tock....tick...tock.... hearing the sound of
the clock made it worst.

I had my chance, just didn't take it.

Now, reality speaks with a familiar sound.

LIFE! IS! GREAT!

"What"

"Are you serious?"

"If this is the life that was planned for me,
then I wouldn't want to go on!"

"Go ahead and end it!"

"It wouldn't even make a difference ."
Then reality striked again..... with greater
force, louder than you could imagine

You are living by choice not by chance!

"I know! That's why I'm living an awful life!"

You made it happen!

"It's what was given!"

You were given all those years, and this is all
you could come up with? Come on!

"I'm hopeless!"
"I'm weak!"
"Are you suppose to rub it in?"
"I get it!"

Reality ended the battle

It's not the end of the world! Time doesn't stop
when you fall. That's why the sky is high. It's
something to reach for.

A cold breeze suddenly surrounded me
The view seemed to change!

"Now, I get it!"

So live your life
Be yourself
And see the difference

Oratorical Piece:

I will Persist Until I Succeed

I was not delivered unto this World in defeat, nor
does failure course in my veins. I will hear not
those who weep and complain, for their disease is
contagious. The slaughterhouse of failure is not
my destiny.

The prizes of life are at the end of each journey,
not near the beginning; and it is not given to me
to know how many steps are necessary in order to
reach my goal. Failure I may still encounter at
the thousandth step, yet success hides behind the
next bend in the road. Never will I know how
close it lies unless I turn the corner.

I will be likened to the rain drop which washes
away the mountain, the ant that devours a tiger,
the star which brightens the earth, and the slave
who builds a pyramid. I will build my castle one
brick at a time for I know that small attempts,
repeated, will complete any undertaking. I will
persist until I succeed.

I will never consider defeat and I will remove
from my vocabulary such words and phrases as
quit, cannot, unable, impossible, out of the
question, improbable, failure, unworkable,
hopeless, and retreat. I will avoid despair but if
this disease of the mind should infect me then I
will work on in despair. I will toil and I will
endure.

I will remember the ancient law of averages and I
will bend it to my good. Each frown I meet only
prepares me for the smile to come. Each
misfortune I encounter I will carry in it the seed
of tomorrows good luck. I must have the night to
appreciate the day. I must fail often to succeed
only once. I will persist until I succeed.

Never will I allow any day to end with a failure.
Thus I will plant the seed of tomorrows success
and gain an insurmountable advance over those
who cease their labor at a prescribed time. When
others cease their struggle, then mine will begin,
and my harvest will be full.

Nor will I allow yesterdays success to lull me into
todays complacency, for this is the greatest
foundation of failure. I will forget the
happenings of the day that is gone, whether they
were good or bad, and greet the new sun with
confidence that this will be the best day of my
life.

So long as there is breath in me, that long will I
persist? For I know one of the greatest principles
of success if I persist long enough, I will win.

I will persist! I will win!

Believe You Can Succeed And You Will

Success means many wonderful, positive things.
Success means personal prosperity: a fine home,
vacations, travel, new things, financial security,
giving your children maximum advantages, etc
Success means winning admiration, leadership,
being looked up to by people in your business and
social life. Success means freedom: freedom from
worries, fears, frustrations, and failure. Success
means self-respect, continually finding more real
happiness and satisfaction from life, being able to
do more for those who depend on you.

Success means winning!
Success-achievement is the goal of life!

Every human being wants success. Everybody
wants the best this life can deliver. Nobody
enjoys crawling, living in mediocrity. No one
likes feeling second-class and feeling forced to go
that way.

Some of the most practical success-building
wisdom is found in that Biblical quotation
stating that faith can move mountains. Believe,
really believe, that you can move a mountain
and you can! Not many people believe that they
can move mountains. So, as a result, not many
people do.

On some occasion youve probably heard some say
something like, its nonsense to think you can
make a mountain, move away. Its simply
impossible.

People who think this way have belief confused
with wishful thinking. And true enough, you
cant wish away a mountain. You cant wish
yourself into an executive suite. Nor can you
wish yourself into a five-bedroom, three-bath
house or the high-income brackets. You cant
wish yourself into a position of leadership.

But you can move a mountain with belief. You
can win success by believing you can succeed.
There is nothing neither magical nor mystical
about the power of belief.

Belief works this way. Belief, the Im positive-I-
can attitude, generates the power, skill, and
energy needed to do. When you believe I-can-do-
it, the how-to-do-it develops.

Everyday all over the world, young people start
working in new jobs. Each of them wishes that
someday he could enjoy the success that goes by
reaching the top. But the majority of these young
people simply dont have the belief that it takes
the top rungs. And they dont reach the top.
Believing its impossible to climb high, they do
not discover the steps that lead to great heights.
Their behaviour remains that of the average
person.

But a small number of these young people really
believe they will succeed. They approach their
work with the Im going-to-the-top attitude.
And with substantial belief they reach the top.
Believing they will succeed and that its not
impossible these folks study and observe the
behavior of senior executives. They learn how
successful people approach problems and make
decisions. They observe the attitudes of successful
people.

Those who believe they can move mountains, do.
Those who believe that they cant, cannot. Belief
triggers the power to do. Belief in great results is
the driving force, the power behind all great
books, plays, scientific discoveries. Belief in
success is behind every successful business,
church, and political organization. Belief in
success is the one basic, absolutely essential
ingredient in successful people.
Believe, really believe, you can succeed and you
will!
Hold Your Tongue

Some people say that their heads are right on top
of their stomachs and when anything goes wrong
with their stomachs they cannot sleep. An
equally serious condition is one in which words
are always on the tips of peoples tongue, so that
reason never intervenes to stop their utterances.
This advice was once given to those whose speech
is an intemperate; Think before you speak; then
talk to yourself, ruling of the most difficult of all
tasks. For that reason, the ancient Persians taught
their youths two things: to be secret, and to tell
the truth.

Those who abuse speech are divided into three
general classes: The first are those who are always
putting people in their place as if they were
ordained by God and the Constitution to tell off
everybody for what they call their own good.
The second class is those who detract from the
merit of others by criticizing, finding fault or
putting an evil interpretation on all they say or
do. They go to an art museum and criticize every
picture for not being hung properly, but they
never see that the pictures in their own homes are
all upside down. A critical spirit is born of
wrong behavior. There is not a critical person in
the world that is not in need of criticism.

Criticism of others is an escape from necessary
self-criticism. The third is made up of just plain
liars. Conscious of their own littleness and
insignificance or by creating a mythical world,
which is built according to their own
specifications.

Socrates said: Speak that I may see thee.
Speech is the index of the mind, and the
summation of a soul, all that the person has been,
is, and will be. We can say: He is an ignorant
man, He is a proud man, He is a kind
man, He is a cruel man.

The whirlwind on the tongue is the sign of the
tempest in the soul. If there is envy in the heart,
it will show in the tone of the voice; if there is
love in the heart even the words share the glow.
But a skunk in the cellar soon smells up the
whole house. It is a physical and a psychological
impossibility to develop the art of a good and
humble heart out of which comes out words. The
power of edifying speech increases with the
improvement in morals. Many of the suggestions
are in reality nothing else than the art of deceit
and amount to How to disguise you feeling,
How to praise when you want to damn, How
to compliment when you want to condemn,
How to influence people when you hate them.

Short Dialogues:

About The Cookie

- Do you want a cookie?

- What?

- A cookie. Like an Oreo. Do you want one?

- No.

- How can you not want a cookie?

- I just don't.

- Okay, fine, let's say you did want a cookie.
Let's say you were dying for a cookie, and
there were cookies in the cupboard. What
would you do?

- I'd eat a cookie?

- Exactly. That's all I'm saying.

- What are you saying?

- That if people want cookies, they should get
a cookie. It's what people do.

- Let me guess. Dad won't let you have a
cookie?

- No. Even though I'm practically starving to
death, he won't even consider it. He says I
have to have a sandwich first.

- And you don't think that's fair.

- You just said you'd get a cookie if you
wanted one. So why can't I? I'm not a little
kid. I can make my own decisions.

- Hmm. I can see why this bothers you so
much.

- It's not fair. If he wants a cookie, he can
have one. If you want a cookie,
you can have one. But if I want a cookie, the
rules don't count. Like you
said, it's not fair.

- So what are you going to do?

- I'm going to eat a sandwich. Because I have
to. Because the world isn't fair
to ten-year-olds.

Passing a Message

Phineas Nigellus : I have a message for you from Albus Dumbledore.

Harry Potter: What is it?

Phineas : Stay where you are.

Harry: I haven't moved! So what's the message?

Phineas : I have just given it to you, dolt. Stay where you are.

Harry: Why? Why does he want me to stay? What else did he say?

Phineas : Nothing whatsoever.

Harry: So that's it, is it? [loudly] "Stay where you are"? That's all anyone could tell me after I got
attacked by those dementors too. Just stay put while the grown-ups sort it out, Harry! We won't
bother telling you anything, though, because your tiny little brain won't be able to cope with it!

Phineas: You know, this is precisely why I loathed being a teacher! Young people are so infernally
convinced that they are absolutely right about everything. Has it not occurred to you, my poor
puffed-up popinjay that there might be an excellent reason why the headmaster of Hogwarts is not
confiding every tiny detail of his plans to you? Have you never paused, while feeling hard-done-
by, to note that following Dumbledore's orders has never yet lead you into harm? No. No, like all
young people, you are quite sure that you alone feel and think, you alone recognise danger, you
alone are the only one clever enough to realise what the Dark Lord may be planning -

Harry: He is planning something to do with me, then?

Phineas : Did I say that? Now if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do than listening to
adolescent agonising... good-day to you.

Harry got Detention

Dolores Umbridge: Let me make this quite plain. You have been told that a certain Dark Wizard is
at large once again. This is a lie.

Harry Potter: It's not a lie! I saw him. I fought him.

Dolores Umbridge: [shouting] Detention, Mr. Potter!

Harry Potter: So according to you, Cedric Diggory dropped dead of his own accord.

Dolores Umbridge: Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident.

Harry Potter: [angrily] It was murder! Voldemort killed him! You must know!

Dolores Umbridge: [shouting] ENOUGH!!! Enough. See me later, Mr. Potter. My office.

Minerva McGonagall: Is it true that you shouted at Professor Umbridge?

Harry Potter: Yes.

Minerva McGonagall: You called her a liar?

Harry Potter: Yes.

Minerva McGonagall: You told her He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is back?

Harry Potter: Yes.

Minerva McGonagall: Have a biscuit, Potter.

Hermione is Viktor Krum's date at the Yule Ball; Ron is clearly jealous

Ron: (Talking about Krum) Hes using you.

Hermione: How dare you! Besides, I can take care of myself.

Ron: Doubt it, hes way too old.

Hermione: What? Is that what you think?

Ron: Yeah, thats what I think!

Hermione: [on the verge of tears] You know the solution then, dont you?

Ron: Go on.

Hermione: Next time theres a ball, pluck up the courage and ask me before somebody else does,
and not as a last resort!

Ron: [backs away, knowing she's right] Well... that-that-that... thats just completely off the point...
Harry!
Hermione: Where have you been? Never mind. Off to bed, both of you!
[Harry looks at Ron]

Harry: What's wrong?

Ron: They get scary when they get older.

Hermione: Ron, you spoiled EVERYTHING!! [Breaks down in tears on the stairs]

Short Inspirational Story

Potatoes, Eggs, and Coffee Beans

Once upon a time a daughter complained to
her father that her life was miserable and
that she didnt know how she was going to
make it. She was tired of fighting and
struggling all the time. It seemed just as one
problem was solved, another one soon
followed.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He
filled three pots with water and placed each
on a high fire. Once the three pots began to
boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the
second pot, and ground coffee beans in the
third pot.

He then let them sit and boil, without saying
a word to his daughter. The daughter,
moaned and impatiently waited, wondering
what he was doing.

After twenty minutes he turned off the
burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot
and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the
eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in
a cup. Turning to her he asked. Daughter,
what do you see?

Potatoes, eggs, and coffee, she hastily
replied.

Look closer, he said, and touch the
potatoes. She did and noted that they were
soft. He then asked her to take an egg and
break it. After pulling off the shell, she
observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he
asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma
brought a smile to her face.

Father, what does this mean? she asked.

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs
and coffee beans had each faced the same
adversity the boiling water.

However, each one reacted differently.

The potato went in strong, hard, and
unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became
soft and weak.

The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell
protecting its liquid interior until it was put
in the boiling water. Then the inside of the
egg became hard.

However, the ground coffee beans were
unique. After they were exposed to the boiling
water, they changed the water and created
something new.

Which are you, he asked his daughter.
When adversity knocks on your door, how do
you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a
coffee bean?

Moral:
In life, things happen around us, things
happen to us, but the only thing that truly
matters is what happens within us.

Which one are you?
