Purpose of the Technical Tip The use of the USB-port on the FSP 3000 R7 NCU requires the installation of an appropriate driver. This document describes the installation of this driver under windows XP. If the PC is connected to the NCU the new hardware is discovered automatically and the installation wizard will start the required routine for the driver installation. If the installation should be performed without an physical USB connection to the NCU, refer to the Windows HELP how to achieve this task.
Driver Installation ADVA Optical Networking AG distributes this driver as CP2101.zip. Tools to unzip this file are available under http://www.winzip.com. The driver should be extracted to a folder on your PC before the USB connection is established to the NCU. This Technical Tip assumes the driver in "C:\CP2101\WIN. To achieve this result copy the CP2101.zip into the "c:\ directory and select the "Extract here option available in WinZip
. The subfolders will be created automatically.
Follow the following procedure to install the driver:
1. Connect the PC to the NCU USB port. The Windows Driver installation wizard will start automatically.
2. Select "No, not this time and press "Next to continue.

3. Select "Install from a list or specific location and press "Next to continue.
4. Select "Search for best drivers in this locations 5. Select "Include this location the search 6. Type "C:\CP2101\WIN in the input field or use the "Browse option and select the folder from the menu 7. Press "Next to continue

8. Select "Next to continue 9. Lunch the Windows Device Manager and verify the availability of the new device. 10. Identify the COM port used for the virtual device. In our example COM4 is used.

11. Make a right mouse click on the "CP2101 USB to UART Bridge Controller device and select the Properties menu option.

12. Confirm the settings shown in the picture with "OK. These are the default settings for the NCU. 13. Open your Terminal Program e.g. HyperTerm and create a new connection.

14. Select the correct port for the terminal. For this example COM4 must be used. 15. Select the default port settings in the HyperTerm and confirm with OK.

16. Press the connect button to establish the connection to the NCU
The echo on the SUB-D9 port is disabled as soon as the USB port is used. It will be enabled again after disconnecting the USB cable.
