Drug Addiction and Young Generation

Drug addiction is not only a national but a global problem. The drug addiction has
grasped the young generation of our country. The drugs are very expensive and
young boys cannot arrange money.
Drug addiction is a curse of modern civilization. Frustration is the cause of this
addiction. When there is no hope left for the young people, they take drugs. Drugs
have a terrible efect on human body. The addicts feel intensive pain. The treatment
of the drug addicts is expensive and dicult.
!n "angladesh the drug problem has become acute. Thousands of families in
cities, to#ns and even rural areas are directly or indirectly afected by it. !n the
above circumstances, all concerned must create a#areness at personal and family
levels against the dangerous impact of drug addiction among the youth.
Drug abuse afects the brain and body directly. While high, the drug afects
the entire body, from blood pressure to heart rate. $timulants like cocaine and
methamphetamine %amp up% the body, increasing blood pressure, metabolism and
reducing the ability to sleep. Drugs like opiates and barbiturates slo# do#n the body,
reducing blood pressure, breathing and alertness, at times to dangerous levels.
$adly, drug abuse and addiction afects not only the person abusing drugs. !t afects
friends, family and entire society.
&arents must be careful about their treatment to children. !f each and every
individual is sincere about banishing this curse of drug addiction from society, #e
can get rid of it.
3-Day Cultural Show Begins

' three(day cultural sho#, %'nanda $andhya% )entertainment evening*, part of %The
+e# 'ge(,dommo -hattagram% festival, began at D- .ill premises in the port city
yesterday.
The +e# 'ge /ditor and &ublisher +urul 0abir inaugurated the program #hile
&rothom 'lo /ditor 1atiur 2ahman #as present as a special guest. +urul 0abir said,
%The cultural program #ill highlight -hittagong3s rich music genres, dance, and the
traditional lifestyle of indigenous people%.
The 4rst day of the music evening featured popular local songs, mai5bhandari
songs, and ka#ali )spiritual songs*. &oet 0amrul .asan "adal, organiser of %'nanda
$andhya%, emceed the program. The festival opened #ith beating of drums by the
troupe of "abul 6aladas, follo#ed by the performances of noted local artists 0anta
+andi, "abul 'khtar, and $himul $hil. 'rtist $himul $hil performed his #ell(acclaimed
song %Dui +ayner 1on%. .e also rendered popular local song, %2ahamater "risti%,
among others. The program ended #ith the performance of %ka#alis% sung by
1annan 0a#al and 'hmed +ur 0a#al.
Today3s session #ill feature instrumentals, +azrul and Tagore songs, and
modern songs to be performed by prominent -hittagong artists.
Satellite TV Channels: Shaping Our Culture

$atellite T7 channels greatly divert our young generation from our rich heritage.
/arlier our youths #ere in8uenced by #estern culture but #ith the introduction of
satellite T7 channels they are no# dominated by !ndian culture. +oticing that those
channels #ere diverting our young generation to foreign culture, the local
entrepreneurs launched local satellite channels. 'T+, the 4rst private T7 channel,
started operation in 9::;. <radually other channels came into being. 't present
about => local private T7 channels are continuously airing programs upholding our
long(cherished culture and tradition. +onetheless, if #e shu?e through the channels
#e #ill come across the ubi@uitous dance se@uence of the !ndian music video.
Anfortunately, the young generation is easily lured into those things.
They remain glued to !ndian channels most of #hich air music videos that
ooze #ith sexuality. 's the students #aste most of their time #atching vulgar music
on the satellite channels, they do badly in their exams and thus ruin their future.
.o#ever, satellite T7 channels have their bright sides also. There are some
very good informative and educative channels like Discovery, +at <eo Wild, 'l
6azeera, ""-, -++, etc. Watching those channels #e can easily #iden our gamut of
kno#ledge #hich #ill ultimately give us po#er. .ence, to protect society from the
catastrophic efect and to protect our o#n rich culture #e must ban those channels
that air sleazy stuf.

of keeping this menace under control. 'lthough government has taken many steps to
bring it on an acceptable level but due to inefectiveness and lack of monitoring
system those are not #orking properly. 's a result, #e have to lose our valuable
#orking hours as #ell as automobile3s costly fuel every day. 'lthough a modern city
should have =>E of its total area for road uses but unfortunately in our capital city
#e have only ;E area for roads. !t has been pointed out to be the main reason so far
by the learned experts on this sub5ect.
