As we approach the colder months and occurrences of
colds and u, a reminder to everyone to consider the

The mes, they are achanging!

Which is not only a great song but also a reminder of
reality on this Sunday, which, although we are
celebrang the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity,
marks the rst Sunday since we have moved back into
Ordinary Time.

The Feast days we will celebrate over the next few
weeks today, next Sunday, and the following Friday
form part of the collecve known as Feasts of the
Lord in Ordinary Time. They mark and celebrate
parcular aspects of the Divine Reality, and so while
we wont see any of the green usually associated with
Ordinary Time, we have moved out of the Season of
Easter.

Which doesnt mean that we forget about Easter:
each and every me we gather to celebrate the liturgy
of the Church Mass, Bapsms, Conrmaon,
Weddings, Funerals, etc we are celebrang Easter,
the source of the enre Chrisan sacramental
economy.

As we live the daily lives of Chrisans, with that comes
with that, wouldnt it be wonderful if we could
connue to do so in the light and joy of Easter?

An invitaon is extended to men and women of the
Parish who have lost a spouse through death, divorce
or demena (or any other situaon) to aend a

Meeng Room at Forster.

The purpose of this meeng is to form a Grief Support

Sharing with other people can help reduce the sense

can be of great benet to anyone dealing with their
grief.

An external facilitator has been found to help the
group become established (more details to follow).

If you are interested in aending the meeng, or

One important challenge is to show that the soluon
will never be found in eeing from a personal and
commied relaonship with God which at the same
me commits us to serving others. This happens
frequently nowadays, as believers seek to hide or

We need to help others to realize that the only way is
to learn how to encounter others with the right

in the faces of others, in their voices, in their pleas.
And learning to suer in the embrace of the crucied

ingratude, never ring of our decision to live in
fraternity.

God loved the world so much he gave his
only Son
As a child I learnt about the Trinity in terms of three
persons in one God a short summary of a very
complex history of debate about God, Jesus and Spirit.
Johns Gospel says this with much greater simplicity in
the one word love. Too oen the language of trinity
begins to sound mathemacal: three in one, one in
three. Trinity is a way of trying to put words on an
unfathomable mystery of the inner life of God. A life
we could never have imagined, except it was rst
experienced. Within Judaism, there were a number of
ways of naming the Holy One Elohim, the generic
term for God; YHWH the personal name and
experience of God in Israel. The ancient writers of
Israel constantly struggled to name the paradox of a
God who was uerly transcendent, and yet a God who
was present to them. To maintain the sense of Gods
transcendence, when they spoke of the immanent
experience of God various groups used dierent
words. The Prophets said, The Word of the Lord came
to me, and The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. The
wisdom teachers spoke of Holy Wisdom being present
in the order and elegance of the natural world as well
as in human history. Later the rabbis used an Aramaic
word Shekinah as a way of speaking of the presence
of God within the cosmos. The life of Jesus of
Nazareth and his ongoing risen life within the
Chrisan community stretched the theological
concepts and language of Israel to nd a new way of
naming God. Trinity is the disncvely Chrisan way
of naming our experience of God as a communion of
life and love.
The very nature of God is to love to reach out to
another in relaonship. In this conversaon with
Nicodemus Jesus describes why he has come into the
world (Greek: kosmos); for love of this extraordinary
cosmos God gave us a most precious gi in Jesus.
Johns Gospel makes the promise that those who
receive this gi in faith will become children of God
(John 1:12) which is this Gospels way of describing
salvaon. This means of course that you and I are
invited to be drawn into the very heart of God, to be
drawn into the Trinity as part of Gods own
household.
Earlier in the conversaon Jesus spoke to Nicodemus
about being born again in water and Spirit a phrase
Nicodemus could not understand. The Johannine
community understood that with the gi of the Spirit
they were in a sense reborn into a new quality of life.
John calls this eternity life, which is a way of naming
the life God lives in eternity. I use the translaon
eternity life, rather than eternal life to convey the

concept that we are reborn not into ordinary human
life that goes on forever, but into a new way of
existence. We are born into the family of God, able to
call God Father and each other sisters and brothers.
In the rst reading, this is what Moses begs for when
he asks, adopt us as your heritage. If you want a
living example of the Trinity look at a family where
children parcipate in the life and love of their
parents.
Today, as we celebrate the feast of the Trinity, we are
not celebrang an esoteric doctrine from the past; we
are celebrang One who is a dynamic relaonship

So that we might receive Communion in a t and
proper way, please be aware of the following:

When we process forward to receive Communion,
we have been asked by the Australian Bishops to
adopt a common and unied gesture of reverence
before doing so. In Australia that gesture is a bow
of the head and shoulders (GIRM, 160). Any other
form of reverence, including a genuecon, is no
longer permied, and you are asked to refrain from
doing so.
When the minister of communion presents the
Host or Chalice to you, they say The Body of
Christ or The Blood of Christ. Please ensure that
you respond with Amen.
Communion by selfinncon (selfdipping) is
never permied, since we receive Communion and
never take Communion. Please refrain from this
inappropriate acon.
We regret that we do not have the physical
facilies to oer communion while kneeling, and
respecully ask you to refrain from kneeling to
receive Communion while part of the procession,
since this is contrary to the nature of the
Communion procession itself. Your cooperaon in
honouring this request is very much appreciated,
