Sustainable Tourism Policy

Tourism is open to debate and possibly the most vulnerable industry consisting immense growth
potential. The industry is an amalgamation of various stakeholders, moreover it can also be considered
as the nucleus which generates valuable outputs important to sustain human race.
This comprehensive word "Tourism" holds in itself great potential to grow, as it is rightly said
a). A person will never stop marrying &
b). A person will never stop travelling
It is very encouraging considering that Tourism is associated with everyday activities creating various
thoughts that can be transformed into profitable ventures. The business aspect of our industry
generates not only funds to carry on but also employs billions in a direct or indirect way. The beauty of it
lies here; this is considered to be a process involving funds that are circulated within the economy
creating a Multiplier Effect.
How to generate income is a primary objective laid down in a business plan which is made possible by
optimizing available resources. The truth is that we always have limited resources whether it is Tourism,
Manufacturing, and Information Technology etc. However, our focus is concentrated on aspects closely
related to expansion. We have been successful in identifying these important aspects and creating a
developing trend. The players responsible for the growth of our industry play a major role.
Here, Policy plays an essential role. The purview under which stake holders operate has to be
sustainable. Every aspect of our life is a give and take if taken on face value; it depicts the same
relationship while talking business with respect to public and private entities. The policy makers have to
lay down an effective framework which considers all factors affecting the process leading to a
sustainable growth. This talks about inclusive growth and long term relationship between the
stakeholders and the policy makers.
Since we operate in a mammoth industry there are many factors that need to be considered and around
which growth revolves. These include economic, social, environmental factors that have to be
considered with respect to destinations, travelers, local community. What we have here is a world full of
resources, gifts given by god to be utilized completely. This does not support the misuse of the resources
as this practice has no substance.
The world is very big to be understood in limited time however people are the saviors who guide each
other to the path of glory. We blend in the society and create our own comfort levels that suit us and
maintain happiness. When somebody moves out of his/her natural environment there is some sort of
disconnect for some time however it is the course of nature and has to be followed. There are times
when we feel all done with work and the same monotonous life, long for a rejuvenating time; here
comes the need to free ourselves off the burden.
Figure 1
The above mentioned pictorial presentation depicts major factors affecting Tourism Policy. The
summarization is very interesting and opens gates of knowledge and opportunities to develop a
destination. In laymans terms Tourism Policy can be defined as the guidelines that create an inclusive
growth pattern. Tourism industry is an amalgamation of various actors that include products, service
providers etc. from the smallest player {rickshaw vendor} to a billion dollar hotelier all of us strive hard
to provide services related directly or indirectly to our industry.
All of us operate in this environment and are surrounded by factors that decide growth and help us
discover areas of development. These areas or opportunities are identified while operating within a
cohesive environment a user friendly environment where people are benefited considering long term
gains. All this is possible only if the framework under which we work is a model of inclusive growth. This
model is derived from the policy framed by competent policy makers considering sustainability of the
players and the industry as a whole.
It is imperative that the designed policy is targeted to create a consistent growth pattern to achieve
rejuvenation and sustainability.
