6 Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject.

Do you
agree or disagree?
Some hold the belief that educational institutions do not need to arrange the same proportion of
genders for each course. Some argue the opposite idea (an opponent is a person or a team, group,
etc... !evertheless, from my perspective, " am in favor of the former vie#point. $he reasons are
discussed in the follo#ing paragraphs.
$he primary rationale (you used the #ord reason from your last sentence so it #ould be better to
use a synonym to support my point of vie# is due to the different preferences of males and
females. Specifically spea%ing, it is common that #omen are more (because some males are also
inclined to it but not as much as females inclined in classes concerning language, literature, art
and other social science areas, #hile men are li%ely interested in the domains of military, biology,
physics and chemistry. "n this regard, a more or less difference of numbers of male and female
students in the same course is reasonable, treated as the respect for students& options. 'n the
contrary, the compulsory requirement of the equal percentage of both genders is so rigid as to
entirely oppose to the spirits of universities, namely freedom and liberty.
(oreover, it is unnecessary for colleges to set up such a rational threshold #hen it comes to the
efficiency of educational resources. )ssuming that certain male students fail to attend their
favorite biology courses simply by virtue of inadequate seats of their gender, although female
seats are still available, it #ould definitely be a #aste of high*caliber professors and the state*of*
art teaching technology that those individuals could have enjoyed.
)dmittedly, it is true that the same percentage of both genders manifests some positive aspects.
+or instance, it facilitates students to further deepen their a#areness of equality and may spar%
men&s or #omen&s interest in other areas , another area they are unfamiliar before.
-aving discussed both sides of the coin, " pen do#n insisting that it is inappropriate to set such a
infle.ible rule #hen students select their classes. "n any #ays should colleges spur their students,
regardless of females or males, to follo# their hearts and ma%e sensible decisions. (the last
sentence is #ea% and not directly related to the main subject #hich is equality in the number of
gender of students in each class. "t is not about the issue of students& ma%ing decisions its more on
school&s decision.

Gender equality has become a hot topic all over the world recently. Some people claim
that this should begin with universities accepting equal number of males and females in
every subject. In my perspective though this claim may well have merit it only presents
a poorly reasoned argument. !y rationale for saying such will be discussed in the
following paragraphs.
"rimarily the fact that there is inequality between genders in some subjects is because
those are the subjects suitable mostly for men or women. #a$e Astronomy,
Engineering, Automotive and Construction for example. These are
predominantly options for male students. The community perspectives about
these subjects are for males, which creates more of them studying in these
areas. The jobs that these subjects outcome are more likely hardjobs or !eld
works which are not !tting enough for women. #herefore in reality we do not see
many women in those subjects. !oreover women are created for softskilled and
o"ce works. Although the blame is not on the universities, it is the
community#s stereotypical thoughts about women#s roles in some speci!c jobs
like nursing or nursery school teaching.
#he secondary reason is that the limited numbers of men and women in some subjects
help orientate students to be more aware of what they really want to study. #hat is
because $nowing in advance that there is a larger number of students of the other
gender in a particular subject helps a student to give careful thoughts to what he or she
wants to study. !oreover universities should choose students that have capabilities of
learning the subjects.
%n the other hand some people support balanced number of males and females in every
subject because men and women nowadays play similar roles in society. If universities
prefer a sole gender in a particular subject the equality that has been fought for years
cannot be successful.
&aving discussed both sides of the coin it is in my belief that every subject is just
as !t to everybody. $o matter what genders% they have e&ual right to obtain
as high education as they want and it is the role and responsibility of the
universities and colleges to provide this to them.
