Our lives have certainly gotten more complicated in the last
two decades. At almost any time of the day, you will hear the annoying commercial of the lawyer who talks about the old days when high-tech included just cell phones and garage door openers. The Internet probably owes its source to the Arpanet in the 1960s. The World Wide Web, as we know it however, dates from 1991. It is now a dominant force throughout the entire world. Facebook came into existence in 2004. Try to imagine what you would do with all that time on your hands if it was not for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and other social media sites. Most adults still remember the fear of Y2K in 2000. Not only did the turn of the century not destroy our computer systems and culture, but it reminded us how dependent we were on technology. Of course, there was the Bush-Gore Presidential election count and the weird, reoccurring scenes of Florida election offcials staring at tiny holes in punch cards. That is when the term hanging chad became a household word. Humans, not machines, make historywith good and bad decisions. Regardless of our technology, we can never escape the importance of personal relationships and communication of the gospel. High-touch must accompany high-tech. If Paul had all our technology, he still would have communicated the simple truth that Jesus saves. The apostle Paul had such confdence in the power of the gospel (good news) that he wrote in Romans 1:16 that he was not ashamed of it, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. When he preached at Athens, the intellectual center of the world, he was stereotyped as a babbler (seed-picker). The elitists were obsessed with telling or hearing something new (Acts 16:21). However, he was not intimidated, because he knew that the dynamite (power of the gospel) simply had to be declared through the dynamo of a personal witness and the doctrine of Jesus and the resurrection (Acts16:18). You can be Gods friend, even though you have been his enemy in your rebellion and sin. The good news involves His forgiveness and eternal life and that it is for everyone who believes. Turn to Him today. You dont have to use a mouse or log on, just call on the name of the Lord and be saved (Romans 10:13).
