CULTURE AND TRADITION- GERMANY

-An Analysis

Introduction-

Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined
by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music
and arts. WHEREAS
Tradition is a way of thinking, behaving, or doing something that has
been used by the people in a particular group, family, society, etc., for
a long time.

In this analysis I am going to explore the cultures and traditions of
Germany and would like to compare it with India.

With a population of more than 82 million, Germany is in Central
Europe, bordering Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark,
France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland and Poland.

CULTURE OF GERMANY

Germans place a high priority on structure, privacy and punctuality. The
German people embrace the values of thriftiness and hard work. German
writers, composers and philosophers such as Goethe, Schiller, Bach,
Beethoven, Kant and Hegel have strongly influenced cultural epochs and
are acclaimed figures of the world.
Germany has a deep history and has been a major player in Europes
past. From this stems a culture that is filled with meaningful customs and
traditions, celebrated holidays and events, and myths and folktales. Germans
take pride in their traditional celebrations whether they are patriotic such as
the Day of German Unity or religiously based such as the All Saints.

TRADITIONS
Germany is a country where many of the traditions which are famous
worldwide originated. Even Decorating Christmas trees and Hiding Easter eggs
originated from Germany. Germany is famous for its traditional festivals such as the
Mardi Gras, Christmas Time & Traditions in Germany, Oktoberfest and Easter
Friday.

CULTURAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GERMANY AND INDIA
According to Geert Hofstede,
The comparision between 2 countries have been divided into six.
1)Power Distance-the relation or gap between the higher authority and
lower authority in a business organization is more in India than in
Germany.
2) individualism- In this modern era the freedom of speech is a key reason
for the upcoming of a country.In this topic, Germany has more freedom of
speech than India.This is one of the reasons why Germany as a whole is a
better country than India.
3) Masculinity-
4) Uncertainty Avoidance- The power to manage or go through any
upcoming situations or dangers is known as uncertainity Avoidance.
Germany has more manpower to face the challenges and are ready for
anything unlike India.

5) Pragmatism



6) Indulgence-the extent to which people try to control their desires and
impulses is known as Indulgence. Indulgence is also known as tolerance.
The indulgence graph shows that the German people are more tolerant
than Indians by 14%.
