Stainless Steel Trim Standard
Stainless Steel Floats Guaranteed
Easily Serviced Without Removal From Pipeline
Stainless Steel Diffuser
Engineered For Drip Tight Seal At Low Pressures
The Series 37 Well Service Valve is designed to remove air
which is present in the well column before it can enter the
piping system. Should this air enter the system, potentially
damaging pressure surges and related water hammer can
result. This is accomplished by the use of a large venting
orifice, capable of exhausting large quantities of air on pump
start up.
Also, on pump shut down, the Series 37 Well Service Valve will
open to allow air to re-enter the well column and prevent a
vacuum or water column separation from developing.
Note: The Series 37 does not open under pressure to exhaust
small quantities of air which may collect at high points during
normal pressurized operation. Series 34 Air Release Valves
are required for this function.
Well Service Valves
Installation
The Series 37 Well Service Valve is typically installed between
the pump discharge and check valve. Mount the unit in the
vertical position on top of the pipeline with an isolation valve
installed below the valve in the event servicing is required. An
enclosure with adequate venting is recommended. Piping the
discharge back to the well is suggested.
Purchase Specification
The well service air valve shall be able to automatically
exhaust large quantities of air in the pump column during
pump start-up and allow air to re-enter the column during
pump shut-down. The air valve shall be designed to be
installed between outlet of vertical turbine pumps and the
pump check valve.
The inlet and outlet of the valve shall have the same cross-
section area. The valve shall have NPT Threaded or ANSI
Flanged inlet and outlet. The float shall be guided by a
stainless steel guide shaft and seal drip-tight against a syn-
thetic rubber seal. 4" and larger valves shall have dual guid-
ed shafts of hexagonal cross section and a protective dis-
charge hood.
The float shall be of all stainless steel construction and
capable of withstanding maximum system surge pressure
without failure. The body and cover shall be concentrically
located and of cast iron and the valve internal parts shall be
of stainless steel or Buna-N

rubber.
Note: 3" and smaller sizes shall be equipped with a stain-
less steel diffuser screen to protect float from excess water
force. 4" and larger sizes shall be equipped with a device
which will throttle the flow of water into the valve and be
designed to permit full flow of air but limit the flow of water
to the valve.
The Well Service Air Valve shall be Series 37 from Cla-Val.

Select proper size Series 37 valve for vertical turbine pump applications.
1. Determine pump flow capacity (in GPM) at a no head condition.
2. Read corresponding valve size from above chart. If flow capacity is near
maximum of range, select next larger size as recommended.
Flanged outlet available is extra cost option. Consult factory for larger sizes
Threaded inlet Series 37 valves are
equipped with a stainless steel
diffuser which is designed to break
up the solid, forceful column of
water entering the valve after the air
has successfully been exhausted.
AC Throttling device is recommend-
ed to allow adjustment rate of air
flow for reducing shock and potential
damage to the pump and piping.
Flanged inlet Series 37 valves are
equipped with an arrestor check
which throttles the flow of water into
the valve after the air has been
exhausted from the system. This
allows for a slower rate of valve clo-
sure and for reduced shock within
the valve and to eliminate potential
pump or pipeline damage.
Threaded Inlet 1/2" - 3"
Flanged Inlet 4" - 16"
Note: It is Recommended that outlets of the well service valves be piped to a drain,
inside the pump house, to eliminate high pitched noise of air exhausting.
