The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Tiruchirappalli, situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of river Cauvery, was started as a joint and co-operative venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1964 with a view to catering to the needs of man-power in technology for the country. The college has been conferred with autonomy in financial and administrative matters to achieve rapid development. The institution offers Under Graduate Courses in ten branches and Post Graduate Courses in twenty one disciplines of Science, Engineering & Technology besides Ph.D. in all the departments. The hallmark of the campus is the good facilities which cater to the academic and extra-curricular interests of the students. ABOUT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY
The Institute has a modern Central Library with more than two lakhs of documents consisting of Technical books, reports, standards, CD-ROMS, AV Educational Cassettes and back volumes of journals. The library subscribes to 179 periodicals (print) plus 5000+ e-Journals and 600+ e- books besides a holding of 17690 back volumes of journals. The library also contains 16,000 books in the Book Bank scheme. Digital Knowledge Centre has been established with 60 Computer systems provided with DVD-RW Drive and Wi- Fi facility. CCTV Web cameras have been fixed in the Central Library. RFID Technology of Document Identification and Library Security System are going to be established by March 2013.
HOW TO GET TO NIT-TRICHY
NIT- Tiruchirappalli is located about 22 km from Tiruchirappalli Junction / Central Bus-stand on the Tiruchirappalli - Thanjavur Highway. The simplest and most economical way to reach NIT- Tiruchirappalli is by bus. Board Thanjavur bound route bus and get down at NITT. The journey time from Tiruchirappalli will be around 45 minutes. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP TEQIP II (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme Phase II) has given the excellent opportunity to conduct this workshop. This workshop will be very much useful for the LIS Professionals, P.G. and Research Scholars from various institutions. This workshop will make awareness of the E-Resources and its Best Practices to promote excellence in Research among the LIS professionals and other Research Scholars.
