Overview

The company Brevini Power Transmission which was established in 1960 in
Reggio Emilia, where its headquarters are still located -- is one
of the European leaders in the field of power transmission. Its
complete range of products includes everything from planetary
gear units to in-line and right-angle gearboxes, speed variators,
and winches.

4 product lines The organization cis divided into 4 product lines:

Brevini Riduttori: the line of planetary gear units for industrial
applications and mobile machines.

PIV Drives: parallel and right-angle shaft gear units and speed
variators.

Brevini Winches: the line of hoisting and recovery systems.

Piv Posiplan: the new line of compact gear units for shaft-
mounted industrial applications.

Product line

FLANGE MOUNTED
Brevini's in-line or right angle planetary gearboxes can be used
in a wide range of industrial equipment and mobile applications.
They are based upon a flexible modular system and are
available with either male or female output shaft configurations.
The male configuration (cylindrical or splined) is used where side
or axial loads are acting upon the output shaft. The female
configuration is used to transmit purely torque and is employed
where space is limited. The flange mounted gearboxes are
supported by a wide range of accessories. These include:
adaptors for electric and hydraulic motors, multidisc failsafe
brakes and male input shaft configurations.

SHAFT MOUNTED
In applications where it is necessary to ensure proper alignment
between a gearbox and a driven shaft, Brevini's in-line and right
angle shaft mounted planetary gearboxes provide the ideal
solution.
The ability of the compact and efficient shaft mounted
gearboxes, not only to provide alignment between shafts, but
also their flexibility of use and the fact that no machining is
required to mount them to frames, are all major factors in their
widespread use across all industry sectors. Complementing
these user benefits is the flexibility offered by two different types
of shaft configurations: hollow shaft for shrink disc connection or
keyed cylindrical female shaft (FP type).

Product line

FOOT MOUNTED
A design which integrates mounting feet into the gearbox
housing means that Brevini's range of in-line and right angle
gearboxes offer advantages in terms of high levels of operating
stiffness and rigidity.
The use of tapered roller bearings in the construction of these
compact high efficiency gearbox units adds to their robust
performances, by allowing axial and side loads to be tolerated on
their keyed cylindrical output shafts. The provision for foot
mounting means that this range is particularly suitable for
industrial applications. This suitability is enhanced by a wide
range of accessories, including adaptors for electric and
hydraulic motors.

HIGH TORQUE " S SERIES"
The "S Series" is the optimum proposal for all applications
requiring high torque with minimum dimensions, on fixed
industrial equipment and also self-propelled machines. This
epicyclic solution is preferable to solutions with traditional gear
units as it offers an improvement of 40-60% in terms of space
and weight.
With its many output versions, numerous input possibilities and
all the accessories supplied, the "S Series" extends the
application possibilities of Brevini epicyclic gear units to all
industrial sectors: mixers for any type of material, extruders, all
types of conveyors belts, industrial and port lifting equipment,
grinders and mills, machines for working sheet and rod, large
iron-making plants, sugar and food oil production plants, plants
for quarries and mines, purification plants.
The main characteristics of this new Brevini Riduttori range are:
- 9 harmonically developed sizes, from 34,000 Nm to 500,000
Nm nominal torque
- In line and right angle execution up to 4 reduction stages
- Output versions: female splined, hollow cylindrical for shaft-
mounting, male cylindrical and male splined shaft
- Input versions with male input shaft, arrangements for electric
and hydraulic motors, possibility of multidisc brakes
- A wide range of input and output accessories supplied with unit
- Possibility of integral solutions with gear units having a different
technology.

HIGH TORQUE " HIGH POWER" SERIES
Brevini High Power gear units for medium and high power
industrial applications combine the innovative technology and
performance of Brevinis latest S series range with the high
quality and reliability of PIV Drives Posired series of right-angle
gearboxes.
The result is a new series of right-angle gear units that has all
the benefits of versatile output configurations typical of planetary
gear units combined with the tested input safety of high quality
right-angle gearboxes, a solution that is more efficient, quieter,
more compact and offers a better price / performance ratio
compared to ordinary gear units.
The application range of these new Brevini Power Transmission
gear units includes a variety of ratios from 1:75 to 1:660 and
a transmission capacity of up to 950 kW of power. These
gearboxes are the result of the partnership and the teamwork
between Brevini and PIV.

Product line

WHEEL DRIVE
Compact planetary wheel drives, designed for a wide range of
self propelled vehicles with hydraulic transmission and
individually motorised wheel drives.
They allow design engineers to simplify the project of mobile
equipment, improving the price / performance ratio.The wide
range of ratios available makes it possible to adapt the reduction
unit to the most suitable hydraulic transmission. A manual
release is provided, to disconnect the reduction unit from the
motor for emergency towing. The versatility of this range of
Brevini products is assured by a wide choice of braking systems
(drum brakes, negative acting multiple disc, failsafe parking
brake).
Important applications: agricultural machines, access platforms,
fork lift trucks, sweepers, low speed wheeled vehicles.

Technical Data

TRACK DRIVES
Compact planetary track drive units, specifically designed for use
on tracked vehicles: excavators and earthmoving machines.
This range of gearboxes has high strength structure, short
overall length, very high radial and axial load capability. All the
gearboxes are provided with integral multidisc failsafe brake and
allow the direct mounting of hydraulic motors at the gearbox
input.Due to the high torque rating and the quality of the
materials, these units are the best solution in heavy duty
applications.
Brevini produces the track drives also in gearmotor version, with
integrated hydraulic motors, specifically designed for the tracked
mini-excavators.

Product line

SLEWING DRIVES
Brevinis slewing drives are an essential component in keeping
weight and size to a minimum on equipment such as tower
cranes, wind turbines, aerial platforms, discharge booms and
excavation and construction equipment.
Their planetary structure means that they can withstand very
high torque values while maintaining reduced dimensions,
reduced weight and high efficiency. The wide range of ratios
available enables the selection of a motor size and type which
best suits users requirements: hydraulic, electric,
pneumatic.Simple mounting, operating reliability and versatility
make these units suitable for the most severe duties and
environments.
Brevini produces the slewing drives also in gearmotor version,
with integrated hydraulic motor and brake, specifically designed
for mini-excavators and light duty machines.

PUMP DRIVES
The Brevini pump drive gear units can drive up to 5 pumps from
a single prime mover: diesel engine or electric motor.
Each size is available either as speed reducer or as speed
multiplier. We offer two versions on the input side: with SAE
flange or with ADI solution.The internal features (the central
input gear is case hardened and is integral with the shaft) lead to
longer product life and lower noise.
Our pump drives are successfully installed in agricultural, road
and utility machines, fishing boats, industrial equipment.

WINCH DRIVES
Planetary reduction gear units, with rotating outer casing,
designed to be fitted into the winch drum.
On the input side, they are equipped with a multidisc failsafe
brake. These winch drives give the freedom to design the rope
drum and frame of any size and to incorporate any special
features required.
The driving motors, electrical or hydraulic, are fitted on the input
side through the Brevini universal flange system.

MIXER GEAR
Brevini's range of mixer drives are planetary gear units modified
to meet the operating requirements of water conditioners and of
mixers in chemical, ceramic and paper producing industries. The
mixer drives combine the traditional advantages of Brevini's
planetary technology - compactness and high efficiency - with
the characteristics of strength and reliability.
The flexibility of the mixer drive design provides users with a
number of construction options, including in-line and right-angle
configurations, and the facility to directly mount a motor to the
gearbox via a flange. Alternatively, a male input shaft
configuration may be used with connection effected by a flexible
coupling or pulley.

OTHER PLANETARY GEARS
In specific sectors and applications, where it is necessary to
provide innovative and versatile solutions to power transmission
problems, Brevini's modular planetary gearboxes are the right
choice: in mobile machines and industrial equipment as well.
Starting from the Customer's requirements, our gear units can
add configurations, motors, brakes and accessories, in order to
customize the transmission system to the specific segment of
application: cattle feed mixers (see picture on left), concrete
mixer, snow cats, power shift and gearboxes for drilling
equipment, packages with right-angle gear units or with input
worm reduction set.

POSIRED 2 Parallel Shaft and Right Angle Gearboxes
In this product range the demand for a gear program rich in
variants but with a minimum number of parts have been fulfilled.
High degree of standardisation and consistent modularity
ensures availability with short delivery time. A large number of
standard options with a great variety of versions guarantee
optimal adaptation in almost all areas of mechanical and system
construction.
An extensive range of accessories increases the adaptation
capacity of this gear to various requirements. As a standard,
fans, cooling coil, external oil cooler, heating rods, torque
supports, engine consoles, sub-constructions and operation
monitoring systems are available.

POSIRED N Parallel axis Lifting gear with large axle bases
Lifting gears in which the cable drum and driving motor are
arranged in parallel require a step-down gear with a
correspondingly large axle base. The lifting gear gears in the
POSIRED N series are designed for this application and ideally
bridge the given distance between the motor and cable drum.
The development of this series was based on widespread
experience in crane engineering. The demands of this branch
were largely taken into account in this gear concept.
The accessories needed for this application such as elastic
clutches, barrel clutches, brakes, substructures, etc. are
available and can be supplied with the gear.

Product line

POSIRED D Right Angle Gearboxes
This universal and compact gearmotor is based on a modular
system with high output torque with a monobloc housing
integrating a motor bell housing. A large number of variants are
available for each size. The opportunity to mount brake motor
makes this gearmotor most suited for traverse movements in
cranes or other large mobile applications.

Main characteristics:
- Horizontal or upright fitting position
- Torque reaction arm integrated in the casing
- 6 frame sizes rated according to a modular system
- Use of standard components from the Posired 2 program
- Advantageous prices due to a low manufacturing proportion

POSITORQUE Planetary gear

The POSITORQUE planetary gear series (5 sizes) is intended
for industrial application with output torque up to 1.000.000 Nm.
They are backed by a long experience in the construction of
planetary units for variable speed drives.
The most important parameters of this series are:

- Compact design and high power density. The optimisation of
the number of planets for each planet stage leads to an
excellent torque / weight ratio.
- The modular structural design of the gear case leads to a
universal range of uses. The majority of designs needed in
practice can be covered by standard models: in line and right
angle versions.
- The housings are designed for flange or foot designs
- The output shafts are supplied as solid or hollow shafts or
can be designed according to customer specifications.

POSIREX single shaft extruder drive
Modular design based on POSIRED range plus appropriate
thrust bearing-parts which are readily available.
This series of gear with attached or integrated thrust bearing can
be produced as bevel or helical gear. Quiet operation and strong
design are key features. Mounting position horizontal or vertical,
splash lubrication and cooling coil with or without injection
lubrication are possible options.

POSITWIN GL Double shaft extruder gear
Double shaft extruder gears have been built by P.I.V. since 1984
for a variety of applications in the plastics and food industries
and have been put into operation around the world to our
customers' complete satisfaction.
The gears are case hardened and ground and optimised with a
profile correction according to the load, which consists of
bending and torsion. A very good noise behaviour is achieved
through a high contact ratio.
The axial forces which occur during extrusion from the process
part are safely absorbed in the gear with tandem bearings and
self-aligning roller thrust bearings. This extremely compact and
appealing design means that we are able to provide a modern,
high-power gear in small installation spaces.

Compact Shaft-Mounted Gear Units

Posiplan: new range of compact planetary and bevel helical
gearboxes for industrial applications.

These new gear reducers, which are protected by a specific
patent, feature a combination of planetary and helical/bevel
helical gears that takes advantage of the strengths of each
technology: compact size, reliability and easy maintenance.

This new series of lighter, more compact gear reducers surpass
traditional solutions for planetary and bevel helical gear reducers
and also ensure shorter production times and lower production
costs.

The design of these ultra-compact gear units is based upon
precise analyses using FEM (Finite Elements Method)
techniques applied to 3D models, which means that
performance, in terms of duration and silence, was optimized
already in the virtual prototype phase.

Advanced engineering techniques, long experience and the use
of high quality parts led to the creation of a product that ensures
high performance over time, a fact that has been confirmed by
tests that simulate real operating conditions.

Main characteristics of the new product range:
- 10 harmonically developed sizes, from 3000 Nm to 27,000 Nm
of nominal torque.
- In the planetary helical version, up to 4 reduction stages and
transmission ratios of up to i =2000.
- In the bevel planetary helical version, up to 4 reduction stages
and transmission ratios of up to i =1100.
- Special seals (labyrinth seals or double seals with separate
grease-filled chamber) that protect against lubricant leakage and
contamination.
- Output hollow shafts: cylindrical with keyway, cylindrical hollow
shaft for shrink disc, and splined shaft.
- Input versions with adaptors for IEC, NEMA and hydraulic
motors, flexible and fluid couplings, clutches and torque limiters,
and belt couplings.
- Accessories such as torque arms, shrink discs, backstops and
brakes, oil filtering and cooling systems.
The range will be expanded to include 8 more sizes for output
torques of up to 67,000 Nm.

Product line

EGO
Specifically designed by Brevini Winches to satisfy the needs of
companies that manufacture drilling machinery, earth-moving
equipment, and stationary or truck cranes, these new series of
winches have been designed in conformity with FEM standard.
The main characteristics of these winches are: high
performance and reduced dimensions, thanks to the gearbox
installed inside the drum.

The EGO winches have hydraulic motor-driven units and an
integrated balancing valve unit for controlling the load while it is
descending, as well as a selector valve for opening the
integrated motor brake.
The rope speed on the first layer varies from 20-50m/min
depending on the oil-flow.

There is also a wide range of accessories available: grooved
drum (standard or special), double drum, winch without frame,
prearrangement for drum revolution counter, control system for
minimum and maximum rope winding, cable gland, special
painting, rope mounting onto the winch.

BW
This series of hydraulic hoisting winches stands out for its
excellent performance and compact size made possible by the
special design in which all mechanical and hydraulic parts are
inside the winch drum. The winches in this series all have
hydraulic motor-driven units with a fixed displacement axial
piston motor type and an integrated balancing valve unit for
controlling the load while it is descending, as well as a selector
valve for opening the integrated motor brake. As a result, the
rope can be easily and quickly wound clockwise or
counterclockwise, simply by rotating the load control valve. The
generously proportioned negative lamellar brake was designed
to withstand very high braking torques.

Installation is simplified by the exclusive design of the lateral
supports in the square frame versions.
There is also a wide range of accessories available: pressure
rollers, extensometric load cells with electronic box to determine
the overload limit of the winch, rev counter, marine seals, ropes,
hooks and pulleys.

Product line

RAPTOR- BWT
This series of light, compact hydraulic winches sold by Brevini
Winches is a huge success with tow truck manufacturers. The
versions ranging from 2.500 to 6.000 kg all have as a standard
feature the integrated negative lamellar brake (we were the first
in the world to introduce this solution) and a manual declutch
system (hydraulic or pneumatic are also available on request). A
hydraulic motor-driven unit with variable displacement can also
be installed on larger versions.

The power generated by the hydraulic motor-driven unit is
transferred to the drum by way of planetary gear units
incorporated in the drum and a mobile crown to facilitate the
declutch process.
A range of accessories such as rope guides and pressure
rollers are available on request.
The new version, lighter and more compact, with a maximum
line pull from 2.500 to 4.600 kg and greater rope capacity, is
launched on the market in 2004.
