By
Chirath and Tommy

Have you heard of the Civil War? If you have, then you must've heard of The Battle of
Gettysburg. But if you didn't, well this would be very educational. This paper is all about the
Battle of Gettysburg. So come on, Read about it!
What, Where, When
The Battle of Gettysburg was fought in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It started on July 1-3
1863. The first shot was shot on 1:07 AM. The Battle of Gettysburg was a deadly, humongous,
and known battle. During that time, about 51,112 veterans died out of 157,289 people. It was the
turnaround for both sides.
Important Leaders
Now before I tell you the real story, I want to introduce the main people. President Abraham
Lincoln is our 16th president who was also who also lead the Civil War. Bluecoat General
George Gordon Meade is a northerner who was a replacement for Joseph Hooker to battle
against the Confederates. Rebel General Robert E. Lee is a raider who ambushes head-on in
Northern land.
What Happened
The First Day, Lee hoped for a victory with Yankee General Joseph Hooker. Lee thought if
they could get a winning fight in Pennsylvania, it would remove the union troops from Virginia
and cause the North to give up. President Lincoln replaced Hooker's position with Northerner
George Gordon Meade. When Bluecoat General Reynolds got to Pennsylvania, he ambushed one
of Lee's scattered armies with a cavalry & infantry unit army. Reynolds got killed a while early
when that happened. The Bluecoats managed to defend well against the Confederates, then both
sides waited for reinforcements that night.
The second day, Ewell (one of the Southern Generals) charged at Culp's Hill until the North
Counterattacked. Bluecoat General Daniel left Little Round Top then the Yankees sent defensive
troops to Little Round Top and the Confederates attacked it. The South moved away from the
hill, and then camped.
The third day, Lee sent in General Pickett (another southern General) with 12,500 soldiers
that were armed with artillery weapons to attack the North's center base. But the Union attacked
with similar cannons. Lee couldn't take the power and retreated back to Virginia, but one of his
armies were trapped back at Gettysburg.
The fourth day after the battle, the grounds were wrecked. The Union lost so many men,
President Abraham Lincoln arrived and gave a speech called the Gettysburg Address
(Emancipation Proclamation) which was about the brave soldier losses.
