The Christian is bred by the Word and must be fed by it. William Gurnall
2 Timothy 3:14-15 "You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become
convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you
have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."
1 John 1:8-10 "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is
not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a
liar and His word is not in us."

Reasons to Reflect on Baptism #18. Baptism Proclaims a Federal Union Between Christ
and the Believer. We are born into this world "in Adam", credited with his sin and liable to
just condemnation. When we are converted, we are no longer "in Adam" but "in Christ",
credited with His righteousness and heirs having the hope of glory. This is what the Holy
Spirit does when He cleanses us from our sin - something that is pictured in baptism. "For
as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive." (1 Corinthians 15:22)
Helpful Quotes
As the saint is described sometimes by a clean heart, so also sometimes by clean
hands, because he has both; the holiness of his heart is seen at his fingers ends. George

Let original sin make us walk with continual jealousy and watchf ulness over our hearts. The
sin of our nature is like a sleeping lion, the least thing that awakens it makes it rage. The
sin of our nature, though it seems quiet, and lies as fire hid under the embers, yet if it be a
little stirred and blown up by a temptation, how quickly may it flame forth into scandalous
evils? Therefore we had need always to walk watchf ully.... A wandering heart needs a
watchf ul eye. Thomas Watson
