MAR DEL PLATA SUMMER PROGRAM

GUIDELINES

To take the most profit from this course we suggest you to read the following
information and comply to the next guidelines:
I. The program's structure

The syllabus for each course is divided into 3 units called 'Projects'.
Each project deals with a different topic and leads to a final task. Your
teachers will give you the details concerning each project.
You will be divided in small groups (3 or 4 students) and each group will
have an "assistant".
You will have regular classes in the morning. In the afternoon your group will
carry out real life communicative tasks, necessary to fulfill the project, under
the guidance of your assistant.
You will have two different extracurricular activities:
* City tour by bus and by boat
* Country day with asado .
II. The role of the assistant

The assistants are advanced students from the UNMDP specially selected
and employed to work in the program.
They will help you to carry out the projects.
They may guide you during your stay in Mar del Plata and will help you deal
with social, cultural and other everyday life matters.
But, please, notice that your assistant's job is only to help you and guide you
with the projects. Though you can, and probably will, socialize with him or
her after the mandatory working hours (from 2 to 6 pm), he or she is not
expected:
- to give language classes (your doubts will be answered by your
teachers)
- to do your work
- to spend more time than that needed with each group, nor to
spend extra time with some member(s) of the group separately
- to make up for any fault or omission you may incur in
- to have any responsibility in grading your work
II. The grading system

You will be graded according to your learning process, progress and final
achievements.

You will take a placement test on the first day. The mark you get will not
count on your final grade.
You will receive a grade for each project. This grade will result from the
teacher's evaluation of your progress, your commitment to class activities,
the assistant report and your achievement in the project.
You will take a final test on the last day of the course. The mark you get on it
will count on your final grade.
Your final grade will be the average of all the grades you get during the
course.

Argentinean grades:

Grade Concept
10 Excellent (A+)t
9 Outstanding (A)
8 Very Good (B)
7 Very Good (B-)
6 Good (C)
5 Good (C-)
4 Passed (D)
3-2-1 Failed
III. Classes and Time tables

First half of the class 8.30 - 10.30
Break 10.30 - 11.00
Second half of the class 11.00 - 13.00
According to Argentinean custom you are required to enter the classroom at
8.30 and 11.00 sharp. The teachers will enter 5 minutes later once all the
students are inside.
Places and times of meetings with assistants are settled by each group.
Make sure you understand when and where you are supposed to meet.
Failure to attend classes, meetings with your assistant or extracurricular
activities and unpunctuality will result in the loss of credits. Prof. Schinaider
is the only one who can authorize a student to miss a class or an activity.
Take into account that you are taking courses equivalent to two semesters.

IV General Suggestions

You are not expected to use a computer for papers or any assignments you
hand in.
Nevertheless, we recommend you to stick to the usual tidiness standards.
Untidy assignments (dirtiness, stains, smudges, etc.) will not be accepted
Let your teacher know if you experience any problem with the Program.
