to the XL Heat Exchangers patented design.
Instead of immersing the heating coils in the

Cal Spas switchless booster pumps are built with quality you can trust and power you
can feel. Our motors feature low and high speeds with exclusive switchless technol-
ogy. The low speed is used for ltration and heating while the high speed is used
for creating a pressurized massage. Instead of a mechanical switch with springs that
physically change between low and high speeds, Cal Spas motors are switchless and
use an electrical relay that provides resiliency and protects the motor. Each switchless
pump has a 50% thicker and longer shaft than standard pumps for increased durability
and output. Spa owners will experience a 50% increase in energy efciency during

Wet ends are the sections of the pump that come into contact with spa

Valves
Valves are designed to direct the ow of air or water to different areas of your spa. Cal
Spas hot tubs can feature any combination of the following:
Gate Valves: These valves are located inside the equipment area and are
used during wet service to prevent water from draining out of the spa
when equipment must be removed for maintenance.
Diverter Valves: Available in one-inch and two-inch sizes, these valves are
located on the topside of your spa and divert water ow from one area to
another. This allows you to increase pressure in some seats while lowering
pressure in others.
Air Venturi Valves: Also located on the topside of the spa, these air valves
can be activated to add air pressure to specic jets for a more vigorous hy-
drotherapy experience.
Drain Valves: Draining your spa is simple with this convenient drain valve.
Simply open the equipment panel, attach any garden hose to the drain valve
apparatus and open the valve. The spa water will drain without the use of a
pump. Conveniently, most Cal Spas hot tubs can be upgraded with a Cabinet
Accessible Drain Valve that eliminates the need to remove any panels.

Reinforced Framework

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR NEW SPA (PART I)
Getting Ready for the Experience of a Lifetime
Your Cal Spas hot tub will offer you and your family years of enjoyment once you take the time to properly
prepare your Home Resort location prior to delivery. Cal Spa cares about you, your family and your invest-
ment. We strongly recommend that you have a qualied, licensed contractor perform the installation of
your in-ground or portable spa.
Planning Your Spa Atmosphere
How Will Your Spa Be Used? How you use your spa will determine where and how it will be positioned.
Spas meant for family time or hot tub parties should have a wide clearance on all sides for activity. If
your spa is meant for relaxation or intimacy, you may want to create a more private area surrounded by
a coordinating Cal Designs gazebo.
Plan for Your Environment
Consider the weather and climate of your region and place your spa accordingly. If you experience in-
clement weather conditions like rain, snow or wind, you may want to locate your spa closer to your home
so that you have a convenient area for changing clothes.
Privacy Considerations
When your hot tub is your escape from the world, its important to
keep your spa experience hidden from prying eyes. Before you set
your spa down, gauge your neighbors sight-lines to minimize any
invasion of your privacy. Also consider your surroundings for every
season. Leaess trees wont do much to provide privacy during fall
and winter.
A Spa with a View
Think about which seats in your spa you might use the most and which
direction they face. You should make sure they face something pleasant to
look atlike the sunset or a landscaped area of your garden.
Personal Safety
Do not place your spa within 10 feet (3 meters) of overhead power lines. Ensure
that the spa is positioned so that access to the equipment compartment and
all side panels will not be blocked. Be certain that your installation meets all city
and local safety codes and requirements.
A Clean Spa is a Healthy Spa
Prevent dirt and contaminants from being tracked into you spa by placing a
mat or water-lled basin at the spas entrance so bathers can clean their feet
before getting in. Keep the path to and from your spa clean so that no one
accidentally brings dirt into your hot tub.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR NEW SPA (PART II)
Preparing the Site
Hot tubs can be very heavy. The foundation it rests on must be able to support the weight of the hot tub
as well as the water and any occupants. If the foundation isnt strong enough, it may shift after the spa
has been placed, causing undue stress that can damage your hot tub.
Calculate Your Spa Weight
The weight of your full spa can be calculated by multiplying the number of gallons it holds by 8.33 and
then adding the product to the spas dry weight.
Place your spa on an elevated foundation that is similar or equivalent to a 3 to 4 concrete slab). Pavers,
gravel, brick, sand, timbers or dirt foundations are not adequate to support the spa. Indoor spas should
be placed on ooring that will not be damaged or stained.
Wood decks or other elevated structures should be examined by a structural engineer before a spa is
placed this kind of foundation. The structure must be able to support 150-pounds per square foot.
Note: It is highly recommended that a qualied, licensed contractor prepare the foundation for your spa.

From Delivery to Placement: Ensure Your Spa Fits
The specication chart in this brochure (Dry Weight) lists
your spas model and dimensions as it sits on the delivery
cart. Compare these dimensions to any possible obstruc-
tions along the delivery path, such as gates, sidewalks and
doorways. It may be necessary to partially remove a fence
or cut branches to provide a clear route. Keep in mind that
8 spas require a minimum clearance of 42 in width and 9
in height. Ensure that any 90 turns along the path will ac-
commodate the spa. During delivery, the spa must remain
on the delivery cart at all times. Note: If there are stairs
along the delivery path, make arrangements with your local
Cal Spas dealer to get around them prior to delivery.

Special Circumstances
In rare cases, a crane may be easieror the only wayto place your spa
in your chosen location. Your Cal Spas dealer can help you arrange this
service. The cost of a crane is typically not included in standard delivery
service.
Electrical Requirements: US and Canada 240V Electrical
Installation
All 240-Volt spas must be permanently connected (hardwired) to the power
supply. Spas wired in any other way will void your warranty and may result in
serious injury. Any electrical circuit must be installed by an electrical contrac-
tor and approved by a local building/electrical inspector.
GFCI & Wiring Requirements
The power supplied to the spa must be on a dedicated GFCI protected circuit
as required by ANSI/NFPA 70 with no other appliances or lights sharing the
power.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is it difcult to maintain a clean spa?
Cal Spas hot tubs come with a state-of-the-art ltration system that makes having clean water for your
soaks a painless task. Follow the simple maintenance steps included in your owners manual to properly
test the chemical levels in your spa. These tests are quick and easy and will ensure continued enjoyment
of your Cal Spas hot tub for years to come.
Does a spa need to be drained and relled for each use?
No. Drainage and relling are typically done every three to four months depending on the number of
soakers, frequency of use and proper water treatment.
Is it better to place the spa inside or outside?
Indoor spa installations typically cost more, which is one of the reasons why most hot tubs are placed
outside. Structural considerations include making sure your indoor property can accommodate the weight
of the hot tub and provide humidity ventilation. Additionally, check with your areas building department
for any indoor spa building codes. Cal Spas offers an alternative to building your spa inside by enabling
you to build your spa outside within a spa enclosure or beneath a villa or gazebo.
Is any plumbing required for my Cal Spas hot tub?
All above-ground Cal Spas hot tub comes pre-plumbed. Just add water. Cal Spas Designer in-ground hot
tubs can be built without jets so you can customize the plumbing yourself.
What are the electrical requirements for a spa?
If you own a 240V spa, it must be hardwired to the power supply by an electrical contractor and approved
by a local building/electrical inspector. Contact your local Cal Spas dealer for more information.
Are all equipment packs internal?
All above-ground spas discreetly hide the equipment pack from view within the spa cabinetry. The De-
signer in-ground spas require an external equipment pack and heater.
What happens if I forget to turn off my spa after using it?
Cal Spas hot tubs have sophisticated equipment packs that have auto-shut off timers. Your spa will turn
itself off after 15 minutes.
Are there any concerns with having children or older people in the hot tub?
Children should never be allowed in the hot tub without adult supervision. Additionally, children under
10 years should not be allowed in water temperature above 98F. Older spa soakers should also keep
temperatures below 102F and consult a doctor before using a hot tub if they suffer from circulatory
problems.
