We have the incredible opportunity to hear and learn from Dr. Gary Thompson, as he travels to
Denver to talk to the metro community about high stakes testing. Dr. Thompson is a Doctor of
Psychology and the Director of Clinical Training at Early Life Child Psychology & Education
Center. He has no interest in politics, but feels that he has an ethical obligation to inform
communities when current public education practices that relate to his work as a psychologist
(e.g., assessment testing, child development, special education) are deemed to be harmful,
unethical and ineffective. Dr. Thompson wrote an award winning dissertation titled: Cracking
The Da Vinci Code of Cognitive Assessment of African American School Aged Children: a Guide
for Administrators, Educators, Mental Health Professionals, & Parents.
His presentation will include: how high stakes testing does not work for our children, how to
assess children in an accurate and culturally appropriate manner, and how current Common Core
testing practices go against years of research.
Dr. Thompson has spoken nationwide regarding high stakes testing and will share the research
that demonstrates that these high stakes standardized tests have absolutely ZERO validity.
He states: A one size fits all education system does not take into account the power of culture
and varied cognitive learning styles. Corporate reform in terms of high stakes achievement
testing has one purpose: $$$$. We look forward to seeing you October 7th!
