An IDEAL Teacher

Assalamualaikum and good morning to our respected lecturer and fellow friends.
For todays speech, I will talk about a very interesting topic that is related to all of us; AN
IDEAL TEACHER. I believe that all of us in this hall today are teachers. So, I really hope
that at the end of my speech, all of us will have a positive perspective, optimist and
motivated in pursuing our effort in producing not only future leaders, but also
responsible community members.
Ladies and gentlemen,
The 5-letters word IDEAL, is defined as satisfying ones conception of what is
perfect. It means that an ideal teacher is one who is almost perfect. However, do we
know what will make us perfect? What are the criteria that we should possess in order
to be an ideal teacher?
So members of the floor, there are 5 simple rules in becoming an ideal teacher.
And those rules are represented by the 5 letters that build up the IDEAL word. The first
letter of the word IDEAL is I. I represents Intelligent. An ideal teacher should be
intelligent. A teacher should be intelligent in many aspects. Most important one is to be
intelligent in the subject that he/she is teaching. Besides, he/she should also be
intelligent in managing his/her work and managing the classroom.
The second criterion of an ideal teacher is represented by the 2
nd
letter of the
word; D. D represents the word Dedication. A teacher should have the needed
dedication to be an ideal teacher. A dedicated teacher will definitely put all his/her heart
at the thing that he/she is doing. A very basic example can explain this criterion. When a
teacher enters a class and conducts a lesson, is he/she does it for the purpose of just
doing it, so that he/she can finish the syllabus, or is it done for the purpose of
examination? Well, I believe that a dedicated teacher will conduct a lesson without any
purpose or just for an examination. A dedicated teacher will do it sincerely as a part of
the knowledge transfer process so that the pupils will know more than what they knew
in the previous day.
Next is E. E represents Efficiency. An ideal teacher should be able to impart
knowledge to the students efficiently. Only then, the knowledge will be useful for them
because they have already understood the concept. Besides, being an efficient teacher
also means that one could manage the content of hid/her lesson to be fit in and
understood successfully in the given time. As we all know, usually the time allocated for
each subject is ranging from 30 minutes to 90 minutes for one subject. Thus, it is all on
us to decide the content of the lesson and how it is going to be fitted in the given time
with students having enough time to understand the content.
The 4
th
criterion is A. A in our context refers to attribution and appearance. Due
to the fact that teachers have always been perceived as the role model for the students,
it is vital for us to possess a decent yet attractive appearance when we are in contact
with the students.
The last criterion for being and ideal teacher is represented by the letter L. L is
for loving. All of us should remember that we are dealing with human beings and not the
robots. The students are human being. They have their own feeling and problems. We
need to spare some space for them to improve in their teaching. We also need to
provide them with a little attention to motivate them to take responsibility towards their
learning. Your few minutes time to listen to them can make a huge difference is their
lives. If you are good enough, the few minutes time you spared, will remembered for the
rest of their lives.
As the conclusion, to be an ideal teacher, we need to have all 5 criteria as I
mentioned earlier; intelligence, dedication, efficiency, attribution and appearance, and
loving character.
Thank you.
