Quick bites like sandwiches and mini burgers called sliders (the veg option has cottage cheese patties and the non-veg one uses chicken patties) are the staple diet here. The specialities are in-house cakes and confectioneries in typical home-made varieties - carrot cake, pumpkin muffins and specials like rum and raisin cupcakes or fig and honey muffins. Ice cream favorites are butterscotch and vanilla bean along with exotic names such as rose petal and mocha. European-style cookies and biscottis are priced from Rs. 25 to Rs. 60. With vegan food catching on, you can also find a vegan brownie on the menu at Rs. 80. The penne pesto pasta (Rs. 350) has pine nuts, rarely used in other restaurants. The soups are creamy and filling such that you can eat rather than drink them. The most popular order is the Egg's Benedict - a toasted English muffin topped with crispy poached egg and hollandaise sauce (Rs. 250). They also serve lamb burgers and lamb lasagne.
The highlights of The Brew Room (true to its name) are the international coffees. A coffee connoisseur's choice, you can pick from Ethiopian, Italian to Turkish brews, including the Mylapore davara. Aromatic, flavoured, powdered, lattes, cappuchinos, expressos - you name it, you can have it here. The cold drip method brews the liquid for 18 hours in cold water to extract the coffee and leave the bitter taste in the grounds. The result is a wine-like brew served black at 5 degrees Centigrade. The latest in the long line of eateries to open in Mylapore is Chettinad Saiva Bhavan. A little different from the rest - it is pure vegetarian, unusual for a Chettinad-based restaurant. Located opposite to New Woodlands Hotel and The Savera, the menu has tiffin items and meals. Pongal, dosa, idly, kesari, sambar and chutney along with strong filter coffee are the most ordered combinations for breakfast. The regular meal costs Rs. 84, soup is Rs. 75.
