ONLINE LIBRARY FOR KIDS

Anusha
Ashok runs
an online
library for
toddlers and
young
children up
to the age of
6 years. She
says the time spent by a parent reading to
the child creates many special moments
between them, and that research suggests
reading to a child for 20 minutes a day
can work wonders. Introducing them to
books as babies enhances a child's growth
and inculcates a lifelong love of reading.

Her venture called 'Little Spark' comprises
a collection of handpicked books like 'lift-
the flap', 'touch-and-feel' books, topics
covering science, values, early learning,
beginning readers, stories, rhymes, peg
puzzles and sound puzzles are available.
Books for toddlers are hardbound,
damage-proof and easy to handle.

Anusha's initiative invites parents to
imbibe the habit of reading to their kids,
peak their curiosity, and encourage the
imagination of young minds. She meets
the families and displays her book
collection at the first visit. There is a one-
time deposit and a choice of subscription
plans. Gift baskets of books are available
according to the age of the child.

breakfast dishes or
sampling a variety
of coffees any time
of the day? Check
out The Brew
Room at Savera Hotel for fluffy, filling
omlettes, pancakes, cinnamon-flavoured
French toasts, tea, and of course, coffee.
Quick bites like sandwiches and mini
burgers called sliders (the veg option has
cottage cheese patties and the non-veg
one uses chicken patties) are the staple
diet here. The specialities are in-house
cakes and confectioneries in typical
home-made varieties - carrot cake,
pumpkin muffins and specials like rum
and raisin cupcakes or fig and honey
muffins. Ice cream favorites are
butterscotch and vanilla bean along with
exotic names such as rose petal and
mocha. European-style cookies and
biscottis are priced from Rs. 25 to Rs. 60.
With vegan food catching on, you can also
find a vegan brownie on the menu at Rs.
80. The penne pesto pasta (Rs. 350) has
pine nuts, rarely used in other
restaurants. The soups are creamy and
filling such that you can eat rather than
drink them. The most popular order is

and hollandaise sauce (Rs. 250). They also
serve lamb burgers and lamb lasagne.

The highlights of The Brew Room (true to
its name) are the international coffees. A
coffee connoisseur's choice, you can pick
from Ethiopian, Italian to Turkish brews,
including the Mylapore davara. Aromatic,
flavoured, powdered, lattes, cappuchinos,
expressos - you name it, you can have it
here. The cold drip method brews the
liquid for 18 hours in cold water to
extract the coffee and leave the bitter taste
in the grounds. The result is a wine-like
brew served black at 5 degrees Centigrade.
Mint tea and a new concoction called
white tea might interest adventurous
foodies.

The ambience is a visual delight - wooden
benches with comfy cushions,
chalkboards on red brick walls, candles,
lounge chaises and newspapers and
magazines to flip through leisurely while
sipping your choice of brew. The outdoor
and indoor sections have aesthetically
designed colourful decor.
