The mission of Metroparks of the
Toledo Area is to conserve the
regions natural resources by
creating, developing, improving,
protecting, and promoting clean,
safe, and natural parks and open
spaces for the benet, enjoyment,
education, and general welfare of
the public.
Hours of Operation
All Metroparks open daily, 7 a.m. until
dark. Admission: Free. Other hours
and fees apply to specic attractions.
Programs
Metroparks programs and activities
encompass a wide variety of interests
related to the park districts purpose.
Programs are open to everyone.
Children must be accompanied by
adults unless noted as a drop-off
program.

Trails in each of the Metroparks
offer a variety of distances and
experiences, from winding dirt paths
through the woods and prairies, to
hard-surface all-purpose trails
suitable for bicycling and skating.

Under The Moon 5K Run/Walk
Join Metroparks, the Toledo Roadrunners Club
and Daves Running Shop for a special event under
the light of the moon. Run against the clock or
enjoy a walk on the 3.1 mile trail course. Special
lighting will help guide the way but ashlights and
headlamps are suggested. This is a fun event for all;
there will be no ofcial timing or scoring so go at
your own pace. Along with a great Autumn run/walk
under the moon, enjoy roaring re pits, apple cider,
smores, music and learn from Metroparks Natu-
ralist What sings in the night? This is an Autumn
Adventure program.

Tombstone Bicycle Tour
Take a fun and not-too-scary tour of the countryside
in this Halloween-themed bike ride. Wear your
costume (and your bike helmet!). The well-marked,
38-mile route winds past seven cemeteries: Imma-
culate Conception, Sharples, Swanton, Byrd Family,
Winslow, Bircheld Family and Wolnger. Riders
will be provided with a map and route notes. There
will be a SAG Wagon in the event of a breakdown or
injury. Lunch stop at Oak Openings and cider stop
at MacQueens Orchard included with registration.

Family Haunted Bike Ride
Especially designed for families with children
12 and under. Come dressed in your bike safe
costume (with helmet) and join in the fun of this
family bike event, which follows a 3 to 5 mile trail
all within Oak Openings Preserve.

Trail To A Sale
Let Metroparks take the chaos out of your holiday
shopping this year by bringing several direct sales
companies to you. You are sure to nd a gift for
everyone, and in any price range. Demonstra-
tions and How Tos throughout the event. Unique
rafe items from each vendor. Light refreshments
provided. All Proceeds from this event supports
Metroparks Volunteer Trail Patrol. Just drop in, no
reservations necessary.

Be the rst to see this years holiday decorations
in the Manor House at this special preview just for

A Cup Of Christmas:
Holiday Tea At Stranleigh
Enjoy a delightful Tea At Stranleigh among the
splendor of Holidays in the Manor House. Seating
for this new event is limited and reservations must
be pre-paid. Guests will enjoy an extra delicious
morning tea, with musical entertainment, followed
by a leisurely stroll of the fabulously decorated
Manor House before it is opened to the public.
A charming way to kick-off your holiday season
in a spectacular setting. Prepaid reservations will
start Saturday, November 10 at 9 a.m., by calling
419-344-4765. Presented by the Manor House
Volunteers.

Holidays In The Manor House:
Runs December 6 through December 14
Ring in the holidays with northwest Ohios most
festive celebration. For over 30 years volunteers
have decorated the Manor House at Wildwood
for all to enjoy. Stroll through the home and see
why over 10,000 of your neighbors make this an
annual holiday event.

Holidays Caf & Craft Show:
Runs December 6 Through December 14
Finish your holiday visit to the Manor House with
a short walk to the Holiday Cafe and Craft Show in
Metroparks Hall. Warm-up with hot chocolate, cof-
fee, hot dogs, cookies and fresh popcorn. Special
handmade gifts are for sale from local craftsmen.
Cafe is sponsored and presented by Volunteers
in Parks. Proceeds benet Metroparks special
programs and initiatives.

Festivities In The Farmhouse: Family Fun
Get inspired for the holidays at the Farmhouse
located at the East Entrance to Wildwood Preserve.

Santa just may stop by to visit as well. Apple cider

This is a special night hike for dogs and their

Wildwood Manor House
The stunning Georgian Colonial-style mansion
at Wildwood Preserve stands as one of
Toledos architectural icons. Enjoy free guided
or self-guided tours every weekend at this
32,000-square-foot, Depression-era home and
learn about the regions rich history. Plan some
extra time to visit the rare Ellen Biddle Shipman
garden, Frank Stranahan exhibit and the Manor
House library.
Open April - October, Tuesday - Friday and
Sundays, Noon to 5 p.m.
Free. Group reservations available during the

National Center For Nature Photography
(NCNP)
Exhibits from the nations premier nature
photographers hang alongside images by local
talent in this gallery. The National Center for
Nature Photography at Secor Metropark is the
only center of its kind in the country.

Oak Grove School
Meet a 19th century schoolmarm and experience
how much education has changed in the past 100
years. The one-room Oak Grove School, located
at the East Entrance to Wildwood Preserve, is the
perfect place to spend time reminiscing. Call for
reservations.

The Canal Experience
Make a reservation to oat back to 1876 aboard
a replica canal boat at The Canal Experience at
Providence Metropark. This is the only site in Ohio
where mules still pull a boat through an original
19th century lock. Plan some extra time to stop
by the 140-year-old Isaac Ludwig Mill to watch the
power of water grind grain and saw logs.

Side Cut Explorer
Ride along the banks of the Maumee River and
down the canal towpath in Side Cut Metroparks
open air trolley. A naturalist highlights the
scenery as passengers relax in a wheelchair-
accessible tram. The Explorer seats 12

Dr. Insecta Is Back!
From N.A.S.A. to nature and science centers ...
school assemblies to parks and recreation faci-
lities, Dr. Insecta has enthralled audiences of all
ages across America! Experience real entomology
magic as Dr. Insecta introduces you to some of
the largest live insects on the planet. Bug Lab is an
interactive enrichment program that entertains,
educates and desensitizes fears we have about
these incredible creature. For more information

Preschool Pioneers (Ages 3 to 5)
Bring your 3 to 5 year old to the little cabin in the
big swamp to learn one of historys fun activities.
Register child only. Parent must accompany their

the four basic shapes used to create them: circle,
square, rectangle, and triangle. Children will get
to piece their own quilt square with the four basic
shapes.

From the soil beneath your feet to the leaves at

important type of ecosystem. Come explore our

Outdoor Skills
Paddling 101: Crash Course
For those who werent able to attend our Paddling
101 series, or just arent ready to give it up get a
crash course in kayaking, in just one afternoon!
Join use for beginner-friendly instruction that
would be helpful review for even the most expe-
rienced paddler. After one hour of instruction,

Overnight Backpacking Adventure
Enjoy the unique scenery of the Oak Openings
Preserve and discover one of the hidden gems of
northwest Ohio on this naturalist-led 15.5 mile
overnight backpacking experience. Participants
will explore nearly every habitat encompassed in
this massive 3700 plus acre park while learning
valuable backpacking and camping skills. No
backpacking experience necessary. Participants
must be 16 or older; all minors must be accom-
panied by a legal guardian. All meals provided.
Limited equipment available to borrow. A pre-trip
meeting will be held on the evening of Friday,
October 3rd to check gear, talk about the trip and
answer any questions.

Ghosts Of The Great Black Swamp
Our Black Swamp heritage springs to life when
the ghosts of settlers from northwest Ohio re-
turned to the Johlin Cabin. Characters will recount
the riveting hardships they faced living in the
untamed swamp. During this engaging experience
that weaves history with theatre, the audience
will be invited to help these poor ghosts discover
the culprit who brought them to such a state.
You never know who or what will emerge from
the shadows of the Great Black Swamp on this
lantern-lit walk. This is a family-friendly experi-
ence, but please bring a blanket or lawn chair and
dress warm because the autumn air will not be
the only thing giving you chills. This is an Autumn
Adventure program.

Escape the crowds at the Apple Butter Festival for
an hour of peace on a colorful cruise. Board The
Volunteer and journey along the vividly colored
banks of the Miami and Erie Canal. The boat will
depart at 12:30pm, 2:00pm, and 3:30pm. Groups

visit the historic Isaac Ludwig Mill.

Cultural Impacts Of The Battle Of
Fallen Timbers
Every day, residents of Northwest Ohio drive
down the Anthony Wayne Trail, travel home to
Deance, or head down to the Maumee River to
enjoy a quiet evening after work. Many of these
well-known travel routes and destinations rst
found notoriety in written history as signicant
points during General Anthony Waynes 1794
campaign. Dave Westrick, President of the Fallen
Timbers Battleeld Preservation Commission, will
present and explain how we all can relate back to
a battle 220 years ago. This program generously
supported through the Dorothy M. Price Fallen
Timbers Education Fund at the Toledo Community
Foundation.

Fort Recovery
Fort Recovery is the site of two remarkable battles
in American history: the 1791 defeat of Arthur St.
Clairs forces by Miami Leader Little Turtle, and
the 1794 victory of General Anthony Waynes army
over an alliance of Shawnee, Delaware, Ottawa,
Miami, and Ojibwa. Storyteller, and site manager,
Nancy Knapke will lead a presentation on the im-
portant piece of American History. This program

Oak Grove School invites you to experience the
magic of Christmas in the 1890s. Our one room
school house will be bustling with activities.
Decorate your own Victorian tree ornaments

The stunning Georgian Colonial style mansion
at Wildwood Preserve stands as one of Toledos
architectural icons. Enjoy free guided tours at this
32,000 square foot Depression-era home and
learn about the regions rich history. Be sure to
plan some extra time to visit the Frank Stranahan
exhibit and walk the estate formerly called
Stranleigh. No reservations required.
