ANTONOVICH, AND DIRECTOR FASANA AS AMENDED BY JACQUELYN DUPONT-WALKER September 4, 2014 Transit Policing Contract Audit MTA's customers and employees deserve the saf est, most secure transit system in the nation. Law enf orcement on the MTA system should set the national standard. Public saf ety is a core service of the MTA. Except f or construction-related or transit vehicle procurement, the transit policing contract is MTA's largest contract. In Fiscal Year 2013-14, MTA spent more than $80 million on the transit policing contract. Maintaining a saf e and secure environment throughout its entire transit system is essential f or MTA to provide a high level of customer service to its riders. At the June 2013 Board meeting, the MTA Board directed the Inspector General to conduct an audit of MTA's contract with the Los Angeles Sherif f 's Department (LASD). The audit identif ied a need to strengthen MTA's contract oversight and LASD's contract compliance. MTA and LASD agreed with the large maj ority of the f indings and recommendations, and deserve much credit f or their receptiveness to the audit and willingness to move f orward with the audit's recommendations. However, it is imperative that the MTA f ollows through on the audit recommendations and the upcoming procurement of the next transit policing contract.
