SEALED WITH A KISS
After striking up a conversation at a London pub and attending
a concert together that afternoon, was it Carey Chamberlain who
kissed Stephanie McSherry or vice versa? The way each remembers,
it was the other who encouraged the playful lip-lock. Carey claims
that after the two met, he spent the next two hours trying to impress
Stephanie with his dancing, singing, and winning personality. At
the end of the night, she kissed him good-bye, despite rumors
that I kissed her! he maintains. But Stephanie counters that Carey
grabbed her and tried to coerce her into kissing him. All right,
all right, I kissed him but only after he asked me to! she laughs.
Though Stephanie lived in Miami and Carey, an Englishman, resided
in Hong Kong and later Brazil, their relationship ourished. The day
after Christmas in 2011, Carey gave his love a very unexpected gift.
After the couple nished opening presents with Stephanies mother,
Carey revealed that he had one last trinket for Stephanie: a sparkling
diamond ring. Both she and her mother were shocked and ecstatic.
Its strange how being proposed to can make even the most snarky,
sarcastic individuals into romantic lumps of mush, Stephanie muses.
It was a very heartfelt and intimate moment for the three of us!
The couples international lifestyle proved to be the deciding
factor in their choice of venues. After getting engaged, Stephanie
relocated to Brazil where Carey lived, so the couple knew they would
need to select a location that allowed them to plan the wedding from
afar. A historic, European-inspired Miami estate provided both a
picturesque terrace surrounded by trees for the ceremony and an
expansive courtyard overlooking the bay for the reception.

Stephanies unique wedding gown served as the inspiration
for the color scheme and dcor of the event. I wanted the
surroundings of the day to reect not only the dress itself,
but how amazing and beautiful I felt in it, she explains. The
stunning ensemble featured a sheer-boned, black strapless
bodice and a skirt comprised of tulle layers in a light taupe shade,
topped by organza scallops in caf au lait, and nished with a
layer of black tulle across the back of the skirt. The bodice of the
dress as sold in stores did not include the gorgeous detailing
Stephanie had observed on the runway version of the gown,
so seamstresses at the bridal salon recreated the runway-ready
bodice that the bride desired. It was quite the undertaking!
Stephanie admits.
To complement the high-fashion gown, the ceremony
courtyard was outtted with rows of mahogany chairs and
purple uplighting that illuminated the grand architecture of
the space. Bridesmaids dressed in mismatched black, ivory,
or taupe gowns carried nosegays of white roses wrapped with
brown stems. Stephanie held a glamelia bouquet composed of
amnesia rose petals, and her oor-length veil was secured on her
braided bun with a black beaded headdress. She met her groom
under a four-poster canopy that was covered on three sides with
long ribbons, each strand accented with tiny owers. Dozens of
candles oating in glass vases rested on top of the structure. The
couple personalized their ceremony by dedicating a rendition
of Amazing Grace, sung a cappella by two bridesmaids, to
family members who had passed away. Everyone loved it! It
was one of the highlights of our ceremony, Stephanie beams.

Inside the tent, guests took their seats at
either round tables covered with metallic
and champagne linens or rectangular,
distressed-wood farm tables. Both were
topped with low arrangements of white
roses, Casablanca lilies, and chocolate
cymbidium orchids, along with candles
that oated in square candleholders and
crystal bowls. Chandeliers and violet
lighting shone overhead, and the interior
of the tent was draped in a gorgeous cocoa-
hued satin.
The delicious four-course meal included
one particularly fascinating treat: the chef
made a special appearance to demonstrate
molecular gastronomy techniques.
Throughout the evening, a DJ provided
a contemporary soundtrack of house,
hip-hop, and top 40 hits. In addition to
dancing, guests had a blast in the slow-
motion photo booth.
A major focal point of the room was the
stunning wedding cake. The three-tiered
confection was painted to resemble colorful
stained glass. After the cake cutting, a
reworks display lit up the bay; then, guests
sipped Champagne as a bus transported
them to the private after-party hosted
at a luxury hotel in South Beach. Loved
ones headed home with cheeky favors that
honored the couples nationalities: T-shirts
that featured a Union Jack background with
the words, Keep Calm and Fake a British
Accent (gifted to the American attendees)
or a Stars and Stripes background with the
words, Keep Calm and Fake an American
Accent (for the British guests).
Stephanie and Careys journey to I do
took them across multiple continents over
the course of a year and a half. In reection,
the newlyweds agree with how important it
is to not stress out over the little details.
The day of the wedding, everything falls
into place and creates wonderfully beautiful
memories for all involved, Stephanie
assures. Carey only wishes he could change
one thing about his wedding day: Start
earlier and nish later! ERIN MIGDOL
