1. Define the following terms:

a. system software
The software used to control the computer and develop
and run applications. It is refers to the Operating System
(Os) and all utility that manage the computer resources at
a low level, database managers, compilers, Web Servers,
router operating systems and control programs for other
network devices.
b. application software.
Application software is a program or group of programs
designed for the end users. It can be used as a
productivity/business tool to assist with graphics and
multimedia projects to support home, personal, and
educational activities. Specific application software product
called software packages, are available directly from the
vendors. Although application software also is available as
shareware, freeware, and public-domain software, these
usually have fewer capabilities than retail software
packages.

Business software is used by business users to perform
various business functions. These business applications
are used to increase the productivity, to measure
productivity, increase accuracy, and to perform business
functions accurately. Example softwares are accounting
software, office software, blogging tools, database, E-mail,
Invoice software, and project management.
d. graphics and multimedia software
Graphics software is a form of application software which
used for editing, creating, manipulating and viewing
graphics files. These programs allow viewing and alteration
of photographs and creation of animated or digital media.
While Multimedia softwares are the applications which can
process information. The informations can be processed in
a number of media formats including test, graphics, audio
and video. For example both graphics and multimedia
softwares are Macromedia Flash, Media Player,
Photoshop, Photo Editor, Pixlr, Autocad and Illustrator.

2. Why application software is a widely used in society nowadays?
a. Because it reduces the effort, time, money, and energy of the
users. It is even make the users job easier than before to develop
or communicate with the programs. Moreover, this applications
nowadays increases its productivity and the rate of work done other
than doing it manually. Example Web Browser, Microsoft word,
Microsoft Power point, Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

3. Why is system software important?
a. Without a System Software which is for example Operating system
(Os) It is impossible to use the computer. Without an Os the
computer is a dummy garbage. In order to operate the computer
the computer need the Operating System. What if there is operating
system but no device driver or boot it will become dummy too.
Because in order to make use of the computer the particular
computer need Bios, Boot, Assembler, Device driver, and some
utilities. This softwares used to increase the performance and
usage.

a. Word Processing Software
This software enables users to create and edit documents.
Example of this type of software are MS-Word, WordPad,
and Notepad among other text editors.
b. Database Software
Database is a structured collection of data. A computer
database relies on database software to organize data and
enable database users to perform database operations.
Database software allows users to store and retrieve data
from database. Examples are Oracle and MS Access.
c. Spreadsheet Software
Excel, lotus 1-2-3 and Apple Numbers are some examples
of spreadsheet software. Spreadsheet software allows
users to perform calculations using spreadsheets. They
simulate paper worksheets by displaying multiple cells that
make up a grid.
d. Multimedia Software
They allow users to create and play audio and video files.
They are capable of playing media files. Audio converters,
audio players, burners, video encoders and decoders are
some form of multimedia software. Examples of this type of
software include Real player and media Player.
e. Presentation Software
The software that is used to display information in the form
of a slide show is known as presentation software. This
type of software includes three functions, namely, editing
that allows insertion and formatting of text, methods to
include graphics in the text and a functionality of executing
slide shows. Microsoft PowerPoint is the best example of
presentation software.
f. Enterprise Software
It deals with the needs of organization processes in an
organization are carried out with the help of enterprise
software.
g. Educational Software
It has the capabilities of running tests and tracking
progress. It also has the capabilities of a collaborative
software. It is often used in teaching and self-learning.
Dictionaries like Britannica and Encarta, mathematical
software like MATLAB and others like Google Earth and
NASA World Wind are some of the well-known names in
the category.


5. List all types of business software and briefly describe their uses.
a. Finance and Accounting

Used to calculate all income, profit, make bill, make payroll,
create customer statement and able to find monthly income
and income tax.

b. E-Commerce
It is electronic commerce which used to describe business
that is conducted over internet using any app which is rely
on the Internet, such as e-mail, instant messaging,
shopping carts, web services and more.

6. List and briefly describe types of graphics and multimedia software.
a. Computer-aided design software
It is the use of the computer systems to assist the creation
or modification or analysis or optimization of a design.
b. Desktop Publishing Software
Is the process of using the computer and specific type of
software to combine text and graphics to produce
documents such as newsletters, brochures, and books.
c. Image editing Software
This will allow the users to draw the shapes, pictures, and
other graphical images and pictures.
d. Photo editing software
This is the type of software that will allow the users to
customize the digital photo.
e. Video and audio editing software
This software will allows the user or professional to modify
or view video clip and photo .
f. Multimedia authoring software
This software makes users to combine the texts + graphics
+audio + video + animation in an interactive application.
g. Webpage authoring software
This software will helps out the users to create the Web
Pages that including graphics image, video, audio,
animation, and other special with interactive content.

7. Describe the term application service provider (ASP).
It is known as Application Service Provider (ASP) is a
business that offers software services to customers, using
computer networks and the Internet as the mechanism to
deliver and manage the service. Among the most well-
known Application Services Providers are Click ability,
Salesforce.com and WebEx.

8. Briefly explain what is Web application.
A web application is any application that uses a Web
browser as a client. The application can be as simple as a

message board or a guest sign-in book on a website, or as
complex as a word processor or a spreadsheet.
