Table Tennis Equipment

Racket
A table tennis racket (also called a "bat" or
"paddle") is used by table tennis players.
The "racket" is usually made from
laminated wood covered with rubber on one or
two sides depending on the player's grip.
The wooden portion of the racket, often
referred to as the "blade", commonly features
anywhere between one and seven plies of wood,
though cork, glass fiber, carbon fiber, aluminum
fiber, and Kevlar are sometimes used.
According to the ITTF regulations, at least 85% of the blade by thickness shall be of
natural wood. Common wood types include balsa, limba, and cypress or "hinoki," which
is popular in Japan.
The average size of the blade is about 6.5 inches (17 cm) long and 6 inches (15 cm) wide.
Although the official restrictions only focus on the flatness and rigidness of the blade
itself, these dimensions are optimal for most play styles

A player may have a spin-heavy rubber on one side of his racket, and no spin on the
other side.
The player can flip the racket in play for different types of returns.
To help a player distinguish between different types of rubber used by his opponent,
international rules specify that one side of a paddle must be red while the other must be
black, allowing a player to see what side of a paddle hits the ball mid-play
BALL
The international rules specify that
the game is played with a sphere having a
mass of 2.7 grams (0.095 oz) and a
diameter of 40 millimeters (1.57 in).
The rules say that the ball shall
bounce up 2426 cm (9.410.2 in) when
dropped from a height of 30.5 cm (12.0 in)
onto a standard steel block thereby having
a coefficient of restitution of 0.89 to 0.92.
The ball is made of a high-bouncing air-filled celluloid or similar plastics material,
coloured white or orange, with a matte finish. The choice of ball colour is made
according to the table colour and its surroundings.

TABLE

a piece of furniture having a smoothflat
top that is usually supported by one ormore ver
tical legs
The table is 2.74 m (9.0 ft) long,
1.525 m (5.0 ft) wide, and 76 cm (2.5 ft) high
with any continuous material so long as the
table yields a uniform bounce of about 23 cm
(9.1 in) when a standard ball is dropped onto it
from a height of 30 cm (11.8 in).
The table or playing surface is
uniformly dark coloured and matte, divided into two halves by a net at 15.25 cm (6.0 in)
in height. The ITTF approves only wooden tables or their derivates. Concrete tables with
a steel net or a solid concrete partition are sometimes available in outside public spaces,
such as parks

NET
This is stretched across the centter of
the table by a cord attached to a post at
either end. It measures 6ft long and
the ball must pass over it for a rally to
continue.
The top edge of the net is 15.25
centimeters (6 inches) above the playing
surface along its entire length, and the
bottom edge is as close as possible to the
playing surface. The outside edge of the posts holding the net is 15.25 cm (6 inches)
from the outside edge of the table. Thus the net is 6 feet long.
