FIRE DAMPERS
Fire dampers are installed in rectangular or
circular ventilation ducts, at passages of fire
compartments. In case of fire, fire dampers close
automatically, thus preventing fire from spreading
through the ventilation ducts. Fire resistance is
30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.
Types according to the release mechanism type:
basic type with fusible link release
motorized type with electric actuator
FIRE PROTECTION VALVES
Fire protection valves are used to prevent fire from
spreading from bathrooms, kitchens. They are
installed at the beginning of ventilating ducts,
directly into the walls or ceilings. Release
mechanism triggers at 70 C.
Fire protection valves have two functions:
they are the part of fire protection wall with fire
resistance 90 min,
they are used for aeration (both, air supply and
exhaust) with a possibility of air flow regulation.
SMOKE DAMPERS
Smoke dampers open automatically in case of fire
and thus enable the exhaust of smoke and heat.
Fire resistance is 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.
Types according to the release mechanism type:
basic mechanical type with fusible link
solenoid type
motorized type with electric actuator

FIRE DAMPERS PL-12, PL-13 AND PL-14
FIRE DAMPERS PL-12, PL-13 and PL-14
Application
Fire dampers prevent fire from spreading in air conditioning and ventilation
installations. They are installed at crossings of ventilating ducts through
partition walls and ceilings which divide a building into fire compartments.
Description
Fire dampers consist of housing made of galvanized sheet metal, damper blade
made of special insulation material, thermal release mechanism with melting
point at 70C or 120C, manual lever for moving the damper blade into
opened or closed position, springs, bearings and other parts.
Fire resistance and classification
Fire dampers have the fire resistance of K60 or K90.
They have been attested according to the following standards:
NORM B 3800 , part 1
NORM B 3800 , part 2
NORM M 7625
Types
PL-12: rectangular fire dampers
PL-13: circular fire dampers - with flange
PL-14: circular fire dampers - for spiral ducts
Types according to the release mechanism type:
basic type with fusible link release (designation A, A2 or A7)
with electric actuator (designations E5 to E19)
Note: check ordering key for specific type, not all combinations are applicable.
Nominal sizes of rectangular dampers PL-12
When ordering, it is necessary beside dimensions BxH, to indicate also the
length L.
Upon request, it is possible to produce fire dampers PL-12 of special
dimensions within the following range:
B = from 150 to 1500 mm, H = from 150 to 800 mm, L = from 160 to 700 mm
Standard length for PL-12:
Standard length for PL-12 is 325mm.
Nominal sizes of dampers PL-13, PL-14
Standard lengths (L) for circular fire dampers PL-13, PL-14:
PL-13 from 315 to 800, L = 400
(when ordering, it is not necessary to specify the length)
PL-14 from 100 to 500, L = 300
(when ordering, it is not necessary to specify the length)
Special dimensions:
Upon request, it is possible to produce fire dampers PL-13 and PL-14 of
custom dimensions within the range of standard dimensions.

Types:
PL-13-K90/A
Basic type
1. Housing made of galvanised steel sheet
2. Blade made of special fire-resistant material
with intumescent seal
3. Thermal release link (melting point 70 C or
120C)
4. Inspection opening
5. Handle
6. Spring
Operating principle:
During the normal operation damper remains
open. In case of fire, the thermal release link
melts at 70C or 120C, respectively, thus
enabling the spring to close the damper's blade.

Basic type with limit switches:
7. Limit switch T1 is used to control the
damper's closed position. By activating the
limit switch a corresponding signal light
or an acoustic signal in the central control
panels is switched on. When the damper is
returned to the open position, the signal is
switched off.
8. Limit switch T2 is used to control the
damper's open position. When the damper is
returned to the closed position, the signal in the
central control panel is switched off.

FIRE DAMPERS WITH ELECTRIC ACTUATOR PL-12, PL-13 AND PL-14

In case of circular fire dampers, the range of
applicability of BLF actuators is from 100 to 500.
The range of applicability for BLF actuators (designations: E15, E16, E19)
Fire dampers with electric actuators:
10. Electric actuator
11. Junction box
Besides triggering by thermal fuse,
damper may be additionally triggered by a signal
from a smoke detector or control panel switch.
When the damper is opened, electric actuator is
under electrical power all the time, when power is
cut off, the built in spring automatically closes the
damper. Under normal circumstances i.e. when
there is no fire and thermal fuse has not been
triggered, the damper returns to the open position
automatically when the power returns. Both limit
switches to indicate the positions CLOSED
and OPEN are incorporated in the electric
actuator and need not to be ordered separately.

Installation
The fire dampers are installed so as to place the
release device and inspection opening at the
accessible side of wall or ceiling. In this way
the thermal release link and the inside of the
damper can be controlled. The dampers may
be installed into any position. They are installed
directly into a wall or a ceiling which has the same
fire resistance as the damper. Installed damper
housing must not be statically stressed by
building's construction.

Warning
Standard type fire dampers are not allowed to be
installed in the explosion hazardous spaces. It is
also not allowed to install standard type fire
dampers in ventilating devices which lead away
the mixture of air and explosion gasses.
Maintenance
Dirty and humid air is likely to influence the
functional capability of the dampers. Therefore, the
dampers have to be checked regularly as follows:
All types of dampers should be completely
checked twice a year. If two successive tests
show no defects, it is sufficient to perform
further tests only once a year.
Dampers equipped with electrical actuators,
triggered by the button or switch in the control
room are to be checked four times a year.

Version with electric actuators:
10. Electric actuator
11. Junction box
Besides triggering by thermal fuse,
damper may be additionally triggered by a signal
from a smoke detector or control panel switch.
When the damper is opened, electric actuator is
under electrical power all the time, when power is
cut off the built in spring automatically closes the
damper. Under normal circumstances i.e. when
there is no fire and thermal fuse has not been
triggered, the damper returns to the open position
automatically when the power returns.
Both limit switches to indicate the
positions CLOSED and OPEN are
incorporated in the electric actuator and
need not to be ordered separately.

7. Limit switch T1 is used to control the damper's
closed position. By activating the limit switch a

FIRE DAMPERS PL-15, PL-16 AND PL-17 TYPES
View of the left and right type fire damper
Left type we only produce in basic A7 manual
version.
Right damper "D"
As seen in the direction of the handle.
If the order does not specify the direction of drive
D or L, the right type D will be supplied. See
the ordering key.
Left damper "L"
As seen in the direction of the handle.
Application
When the right fire damper is installed under the
ceiling in the corner (see picture), it can happen,
that the thermal release (pos.3) is not accessible
through revision opening (pos.4), because of the
blade being in the way. In such case we use left
fire damper.

PL-15 Installation
Dampers must be installed so, that the inspection
opening and release mechanism are on accessible
side of the wall or ceiling. In this way it is possible
to control the thermal release link and the inner
side of the damper.
Dampers PL-15 can be installed positioned as
shown on the picture.
Wall limit is defined by bracket pos.14.
Fire dampers must be installed in partitions with
fire resistance being equal or higher than the
damper.
Allowed installations are in masonry, concrete,
aerated concrete or lightweight flexible walls of
proper fire resistance.
Minimum allowed wall thickness for masonry,
concrete or aerated concrete walls or ceilings is
W = 10cm.
Fire damper PL-15 installation in concrete or
aerated concrete ceiling.
The build-in damper housing should not be
statically stressed by buildings structure.
We recommend the use of wooden supports
during the installation (see picture).
Before installation the anchors (pos.13) must be
placed as shown on the sketch.
Sketch is representative for all PL-15 types.
Warning:
Standard type fire dampers are not allowed to be
installed in the explosion hazardous spaces. It is
also not allowed to install standard type fire
dampers in ventilating devices which lead away
the mixture of air and explosion gasses.
Standard type fire dampers are not allowed to be
installed outdoors or at places exposed to weather
conditions (rain, snow).
Other instructions for installation are available in "
Installation instructions for safe use, maintenance,
testing and installation of fire dampers".
Maintenance:
Dirty and humid air is likely to influence the
functional capability of the dampers. Therefore, the
dampers have to be checked regularly as follows:
All types of dampers should be completely
checked twice a year. If two successive tests
show no defects, it is sufficient to perform
further tests only once a year.
Dampers equipped with electrical actuators,
triggered by the button or switch in the control
room are to be checked four times a year.

FIRE DAMPERS PL-18-1-EI 30, PL-18-2-EI 120; PL-13R-K90 TYPES
Basic type
1. Housing made of galvanised steel sheet
2. Blade made of special fire-resistant material with
intumescent seal
3. Thermal release link (melting point 70C or
120C)
4. Inspection opening
5. Handle
6. Spring
7. Limit switch T1 is used to control the
damper's closed position. By activating the
limit switch a corresponding signal light
or an acoustic signal in the central control
panel is switched on. When the damper is
returned to the open position, the signal is
switched off.
8. Limit switch T2 is used to control the
damper's open position. When the damper is
returned to the closed position, the signal in the
central control panel is switched off.
Operating principle:
During the normal operation damper remains
open. In case of fire, the thermal release link
melts at 70C or 120C, respectively, thus
enabling the spring to close the damper's blade.

damper
Right damper "D": as seen in the direction of
the arrow.
If the order does not specify the direction of
drive D or L, the right type D will be
supplied. See the ordering key.
Left damper "L": as seen in the direction of the
arrow.
Installation
The fire dampers must be installed so, that the
release device and inspection opening are at the
accessible side of wall or ceiling. In this way
the thermal release link and the inside of the
damper can be controlled. The dampers may
be installed in any position. They must be
installed directly into the wall or ceiling of the
same fire resistance as the damper.
Installed damper housing should not be
statically stressed by building's construction.

FIRE DAMPERS PL-18-1-EI 30, PL-18-2-EI 120; PL-13R-K90 INSTALLATION
Warning
Standard type fire dampers are not allowed to be
installed in the explosion hazardous spaces. It is
also not allowed to install standard type fire
dampers in ventilating devices which lead away
the mixture of air and explosion gasses.
Standard type fire dampers are not allowed to be
installed outdoors or at places exposed to
weather conditions (rain, snow).
Other instructions for installation are available in
"Installation instructions for safe use,
maintenance, testing and installation of fire
dampers".
Maintenance
Dirty and humid air is likely to influence the
functional capability of the dampers. Therefore,
the dampers have to be checked regularly as
follows:
All types of dampers should be completely
checked twice a year. If two successive tests
show no defects, it is sufficient to perform
further tests only once a year.
Dampers equipped with electrical actuators,
triggered by the button or switch in the
control room are to be checked four times a
year.

ACTUATORS BF 24-T, BF 230-T,
SPRING RETURN ACTUATORS 90C
Application
Type BF -T spring return actuators are
intended for driving fire dampers in
ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Mode of operation
BF -T actuator moves the damper to its
normal working position while tensioning the
return spring at the same time. If the power supply
is interrupted, the energy stored in the spring
moves the damper back to its safe position.
Thermal fuse Tf1 operates if the ambient
temperature exceeds 72C. Replaceable thermal
fuses Tf2/Tf3 operate if the temperature inside the
duct exceeds 72C. Tf1, Tf2 or Tf3 fuses cause the
power supply to be interrupted permanently so that
it cannot be restored.
Signalling
Two micro switches with fixed settings are installed
in the actuator for indicating the damper end
positions. The position of the damper blade can be
read off on a mechanical position indicator.
Manual operation
The damper can be operated manually and fixed in
any required position. Release of the locking
mechanism can be achieved manually or
automatically by applying the supply voltage.

ACTUATOR BLF 24-T, BLF 230-T, SPRING RETURN ACTUATORS 90C
COMMUNICATION AND POWER SUPPLY UNIT
BKN 230-24
Application
The BKN 230-24 communication and power supply
unit is intended for use with spring return actuators
BLF24(-T)-ST or BF24(-T)-ST for motorizing fire
dampers. It simplifies the electrical work of installing
the dampers and also facilities onsite testing as well
as allowing local or central control and monitoring
of the fire damper over a simple 2 wire conductor.
Mode of operation
The BKN230-24 also functions as a distribution
power unit for supplying the spring-return actuators
that are connected to it. Another of its functions is to
signal the NORMAL and SAFE positions of the
damper (from the switches in the spring-return
actuators) to the central control panel over a 2-wire
conductor. The same conductor is used for
transmitting the ON/OFF control command from the
control panel to the damper actuator via the
BKN230-24.
Installation and connections
To simplify installation and connection, the spring-
return actuator is fitted with connectors which plug
directly into the BKN230-24 unit. BKN230-24 is
connected to the mains with enclosed cable and
mains Euro-plug, so the unit can be connected to
ordinary socket. The 2-wire conductor is connected
to the terminals 6 and 7. The terminals 1 and 2 are
for the direct connection of thermal trigger or smoke
detectors.
Functional testing
If it is proposed to test the actuator without the
BKS24... unit connected, it can be switched to
NORMAL mode by fitting a jumper between
terminals 3 and 4. The SAFE damper position can
be checked either by pressing the pushbutton
on the BAE72-S unit or by interrupting the power
supply.
Parallel connection
If we must use more than one actuator to drive
oversized fire damper, we can use single 2-wire
conductor so, that we connect two BKN230-24
units in parallel. To do so we use terminal 4 and 5
on first unit (master) and wire it with terminal 6
and 7 on second slave unit.
Note: It is recommended to use BKN 230-24
communication and power supply unit in
conjunction with Control Unit BKS24-9A

BELIMO COMMUNICATION AND CONTROL
UNIT BKS24-9A
Control and monitoring of up to 9 motorized fire
dampers in combination with the Communication
and Power Supply Units BKN230-24
Application
The BKS24-9A has been designed for panel
mounting. It signals the operating positions and any
faults from the fire dampers to which it is connected.
A variety of functions are possible with the built-in
auxiliary contacts. e.g. signalling of damper
positions, fault alarm and fan enabling.
Mode of operation
The BKS24-9A unit receives position signals from
the BKN230-24 units and transmits control
commands to them over the 2-wire conductors.
Correct operation of the dampers is indicated by the
2 LEDs:
Control ON = NORMAL Position
Control OFF = SAFE Position
Fault
If the damper does not reach the required position
within the preset time, the appropriate on-board
FAULT LED flashes and, at the same time, the FAULT
contact K1 is activated. This contact is overridden as
soon the defective damper reaches the required
position. The on-board FAULT LED remains on, until
the fault is reset.
Auxiliary contact K2
An auxiliary contact is provided for signalling the
positions of dampers to a higher-level system. The
function of the auxiliary contact can be programmed
via terminal 14 according to the instructions beside.
Installation and connections
The BKS24-9A unit can be clipped directly onto a
35mm DIN mounting rail and external wiring is
connected by two 9-pin terminal connectors.
Functional testing
Functional testing can be performed by pressing the
TEST pushbutton. While this button is held
depressed, the dampers run to the SAFE position.
Any malfunctions are indicated by the internal
FAULT LEDs.
Fire compartments
The required fire compartments must be taken into
account when making the groupings and when
wiring the BKS24-9A unit.

Fire protection valve PPV-K90
Application:
Fire protection valves PPV are used for preventing
the fire from spreading in air conditioning and
ventilating systems. They are installed at crossings
of ventilating ducts through partition walls and
ceilings which divide a building into fire
compartments. When installed in a fire partition
wall, the fire resistance is 90 min, otherwise 60 min
only. It is used for air-in-and outlet. The air flow
quantity can be regulated by a special regulating
system. A thermo link device activates the valve
at 70C and springs shut the air flow and fire
spread through the ventilating ducts is stopped. The
operation of the thermo release device and of the
fire valve can be controlled by pulling out the
central part of the valve. The fire protection valve
has been approved by ZAG Institute (Ljubljana,
Slovenia), by IBS (Institut fr Brandschutztechnik
Linz, Austria) and by LTM (Zagreb, Croatia).
Description:
The fire protection valve PPV consists of an
installation frame (1) and a special inner part (2).
The central part can be pulled out by a special
bayonet pin or the distance can be set towards
housing and thus the air flow quantity can be
adjusted. The size of opening is 10 or 20 mm. The
installation frame and the guiding tube are made of
steel profile (painted in white colour). A shut-off
plate is made of special fire resisting material in
white colour. All inner parts are galvanized and
hence non-corrosive.

Installation
The smoke dampers must be installed so, that the
electrical actuator and inspection opening are at
the accessible side of wall or ceiling. In this way
the actuating mechanism and the inside of the
damper can be controlled. The dampers may
be installed in any position. The dampers must be
installed directly into the wall or ceiling of the
same fire resistance as the damper.
Installed damper housing should not be statically
stressed by building's construction.
Mode of operation
Electric actuator moves the blade of smoke damper
to its normal working position "closed", while
tensioning the return spring at the same time.
Damper is triggered by power interruption form fire
alarm control panel or from properly wired smoke
detector. When the damper is in working position
"closed", electric actuator is under electrical power
all the time, when power is cut off the built in
spring automatically moves the damper to safe
position "open". Under normal circumstances i.e.
when there is no fire the damper returns to the
close position automatically when the power
returns. Both limit switches to indicate the
positions CLOSEDand OPEN are incorporated
in the electric actuator and need not to be ordered
separately.
Maintenance
Dirty and humid air is likely to influence the
functional capability of the dampers. Therefore, the
dampers have to be checked twice a year.

SMOKE DAMPERS DOL-3-1
Solenoid version:
DOL-3-1 operating principle; in case of fire the
smoke damper opens by means of electric impulse
transmitted from the fire alarm control panel,
smoke alarm, etc. It is important that the electric
impulse duration does not exceed 8 seconds, to
prevent the burn out of the solenoid coil. Limit
switch has, besides signalising, also the function
of breaking-off the electric impulse in the moment
when damper opens. In normal position the
damper is not under voltage. Closing of the
damper is always manual.

COMMUNICATION AND POWER SUPPLY UNIT
BKNE230-24
Description
The BKNE230-24 is a separate power supply unit
for BE24-ST BLE24-ST smoke extraction damper
actuators. It also serves as a communications
interface between the actuators and BKSE24-6
control and monitoring unit.
Communication / Command memory
The BKNE230-24 signals the damper position OPEN
/ CLOSED (from switches on the actuator) and any
fault alarms to the BKSE24-6 unit. It also receives
positioning commands from the control unit and
triggers the actuator to the required position. The
last control command is retained throughout
temporary power failures. (The factory setting is
Close damper command stored in the memory).
Monitoring
The BKNE230-24 unit monitors the positions
of the switches on the actuator, its running time
and the exchange of data with the control and
monitoring unit. It also monitors the actuator
current and the power supply.
Signalling
The power supply unit incorporates two LEDs
to signal its functional status.
Installation and connection
In order to make installation as simple as possible
the smoke extraction damper actuators
...-ST are fitted with plug connectors that can
be inserted directly into the BKNE230-24 unit.
The 2-wire conductor must be connected to
screw terminals 6 and 7.
Note
It is recommended that a fire alarm
signal cable suitable for the application be
used for the 2-wire conductor. It is essential
to ensure the correct polarity.
Safety function
The safety function is guaranteed within the
temperature range shown in the diagram
below which is based on standard NORM
H 6029 and DIN 18232.

COMMUNICATION AND CONTROL UNIT BKSE24-6
COMMUNICATION AND CONTROL UNIT
BKSE24-6
Application
The BKSE24-6 unit is designed for mounting in
equipment cabinets and indicates operating status
and fault signals for the smoke extraction dampers
that are linked to it. The auxiliary contacts that are
incorporated also allow functions to be signalled
or passed on to higher level control systems.
Mode of operation
The signals from the BKNE230-24 unit are received
by the BKSE24-6 unit and evaluated individually. All
BKNE230-24 units are triggered simultaneously.
Communication is via the 2-wire conductor. Correct
operation of the dampers is indicated by means of
two LEDs. Faults are also indicated by the same LED
and the corresponding fault LED.
Control
There are two control options for the BKSE24-6 unit:
Input 1 (terminal 10) controlled through a switch or
pushbutton. The commands for SMOKE
EXTRACTION (terminals 10/12) or CEASE SMOKE
EXTRACTION (terminals 10/11) are handled with
This option is Priority 1 and is intended for direct
control with main fire switch.
Input 2 (terminals 8/9) controlled through a higher-
level system.
The command for SMOKE EXTRACTION is handled
with Priority 2 and is only implemented when Input 1
is positioned to AUTO (terminal 10 open).
Command memory
The last control command is retained throughout
temporary power failures.
INIT
In the event of a fault, a self-test can be initiated by
pressing the SET/INIT pushbutton. be connected to
screw terminals 6 and 7.
Fault memory
Faults remain stored in the BKSE24-6 unit until the
dampers have performed a complete trouble-free
cycle.
Factory settings
The BKSE24-6 unit is programmed at the factory for
6 smoke extraction dampers. The control command
CEASE SMOKE EXTRACTION is also stored in the
memory.
Installation and connection
The BKSE24-6 unit can be clipped directly to a 35
mm DIN mounting rail and connected by means of
two 9-pole plug-in terminals. It is recommended that
a fire alarm signal cable suitable for the application
be used for the 2- wire conductor.
Smoke extraction zoning
The zoning arrangements required for the smoke
extraction system can be set up by forming
groups and by wiring the BKSE24-6 unit
appropriately.
