RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH MEANING
Research is an art of scientific investigation. According to Redmen and Mary defines
research as a systematic effort to gain knowledge.
Research methodology is way to systematically solve the research problem. It is a plan of
action for a research project and explains in detail how data are collected and analyed. !his
research st"dy is a descriptive research st"dy.
RESEARCH DESIGN
A research design is a plan that specifies the objectives of the st"dy# method to be
adopted in the data collection# tools in data analysis and hypothesis to be framed.
A research design is an arrangement of condition for collection and analysis of data in a
manner that aims to combine relevance to research p"rpose with economy in proced"re.
NATURE OF DATA
Primary data
!he primary data are collected from the employees of Rane $rake %ining %td.# thro"gh a
direct str"ct"red &"estionnaire.
Secondary data
'ompany profiles# 'ompany registers# websites# magaines# articles were "sed widely as
a s"pport to primary data.
SAMPLING SIE AND TECHNI!UE
Si"e o# t$e %am&'e
It refers to the n"mber of items to be selected from the "niverse to constit"te as a sample.
In these st"dy ()) employees of Rane $rake %ining %td.# was selected as sie of sample.
Sam&'e de%i(n
!he sampling techni&"e "sed in this st"dy is simple random sampling method. !his
method is also called as the method of chance selection. *ach and every item of pop"lation has
e&"al chance to be incl"ded in the sample.
!)e%tionnaire
!he &"estions are arranged logical se&"ence. !he &"estionnaire consists of a variety of
&"estions presented to the employees for the response. +ichotomo"s &"estions# m"ltiple choice
&"estions# rating scale &"estions were "sed in constr"cting &"estionnaire.

STATISTICAL TOOLS USED
!o analye and interpret collected data the following statistical tools were "sed.
,ercentage method
'hi-s&"are analysis
Percenta(e met$od*
!he percentage is "sed for making comparison between two or more series of
data. It can be generally calc"lated as
.o. of respondents favorable
,ercentage of respondent / x ())
!otal no of respondents
C$i+%,)are ana'y%i%*
'hi-s&"are analysis in statistics is to test the goodness of fit to verify the distrib"tion of
observed data with ass"med theoretical distrib"tion. !herefore it is a meas"re to st"dy the
divergence of act"al and expected fre&"encies.
!he form"la for comp"ting chi-s&"are is as follows.
!he calc"lated val"e of chi-s&"are is compared with the table of chi-s&"are for
the given degrees of freedom at the specified level of significance. If the calc"lated val"e is
greater than the tab"lated val"e then the difference between the observed fre&"ency and the
expected fre&"ency are significant. the degrees of freedom is 0n-12 where 3n4 is n"mber of
observed fre&"encies and in case of contingency table the degrees of freedom is 0'-(2 0R-(2
where ' is n"mber of col"mns and R is n"mber of rows.
