"I am honored to be joining an outstanding team of facul-
ty, staff, and administrators," Mr. Carroll said. "Their
expertise in education and commitment to the children
they serve is well known. I also look forward to working
with the Green Brook Board of Education members. I was
impressed with the passionate way they spoke about their
students and their community, and how dedicated they are

Camp PAWS has concluded its third year of operation. The program has served over 160 pre-
kindergarten through grade eight pupilsboth general and special educationthis summer 2014, at the
Irene E. Feldkirchner Elementary School. The students had a busy, an educational, and a fun-filled sum-
mer. The theme this year was Outer Space/Shooting for the Stars. Thus, many of the activities had an
astronomical name. On July 1st (during the first week of camp) students and staff visited Jockey Hol-
low/Morristown Historical Park. During the second week of camp, students engaged in Cosmic Bowling
and Cosmic Glow Dancing. Also during week two, an animal expert visited the students with her
friendsher parakeet and her dragon. During week three, students experienced an Astronaut Skype vis-
it, an Astronaut Food Tasting, and the Astronaut games. Week four, students experienced Star Lab as
well as a field trip to the RVCC Planetarium. During week five, students had a splashdown at the
Green Brook Swim Club (July 31st). During the sixth and final week of Camp PAWS 2014, students

While it is true that every parent in the Green Brook community has gone through school and sat in math and language
arts classes; things have changed considerably in the classroom over the past few decades and even the last few years.
The adoption of the Common Core Curriculum Standards in 2010, a new emphasis on 21st century skills, and the slew
of new technologies may leave parents wondering what their children are learning each day. During the 2014-2015
school year, Green Brook will be implementing new math programs, enVision for grades K-5 and Digits for grades 6-8,
the Writers Workshop model for teaching language arts, and new computer programs including IXL and Reading A-Z.
These programs represent a positive shift in the resources available for students and teachers; however, parents may be
asking themselves, how can I help my children if I do not fully understand the new programs or resources available?

Starting in September, the faculty of Green Brook will be meeting this challenge head on. Mrs. Stanton, Supervisor of
Instruction, will be launching a series of parent workshops that will focus on each of the new programs in Green Brook.
Each workshop will introduce parents to the curricular change and provide strategies for utilizing the resources availa-
ble to help their children at home. Each program will be offered once during the day and once in the evening and will
feature follow-up on the schools website after the program. For more detailed information on each of the programs,
please see below:

For the first field trip of the summer at Camp PAWS, students visited Jockey Hollow/Morristown Historical Park. They
explored the grounds and caught a glimpse of 18th century colonial life. Children experienced guided tours and super-
vised explorations of their own. This trip was significant as the students were afforded an opportunity to see land and
sites that our forefathersincluding President George Washingtonhad once roamed. A good time was had by all
students and staff.
