10. Ventilation Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for
ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to
protect it from overheating, and these openings m ust not be
blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by
placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other sim ilar surface.
This product should not be placed in a built-in installation such
as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or
the m anufacturers instructions have been adhered to.
11. Pow er Sources This product should be operated only from the
type of pow er source indicated on the m arking label. If you are
not sure of the type of pow er supply to your hom e, consult your
product dealer or local pow er com pany. For products intended
to operate from battery pow er, or other sources, refer to the
operating instructions.
12. G rounding or Polarization This product m ay be equipped w ith
a polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade
w ider than the other). This plug w ill fit into the pow er outlet only
one w ay. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the
plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug
should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your
obsolete outlet. D o not defeat the safety purpose of the
polarized plug.
13. Pow er-C ord Protection Pow er-supply cords should be routed
so that they are not likely to be w alked on or pinched by item s
placed upon or against them , paying particular attention to
cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point w here
they exit from the product.
15. O utdoor A ntenna G rounding If an outside antenna or cable
system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or
cable system is grounded so as to provide som e protection
against voltage surges and built-up static charges. A rticle 810 of
the N ational Electrical C ode, A N SI/N FPA 70, provides
inform ation w ith regard to proper grounding of the m ast and
supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in w ire to an
antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location
of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes,
and requirem ents for the grounding electrode. See Figure A .
16. Lightning For added protection for this product during a
lightning storm , or w hen it is left unattended and unused for
long periods of tim e, unplug it from the w all outlet and
disconnect the antenna or cable system . This w ill prevent
dam age to the product due to lightning and pow er-line surges.
17. Pow er Lines A n outside antenna system should not be
located in the vicinity of overhead pow er lines or other electric
light or pow er circuits, or w here it can fall into such pow er lines
or circuits. W hen installing an outside antenna system , extrem e
care should be taken to keep from touching such pow er lines or
circuits as contact w ith them m ight be fatal.
18. O verloading D o not overload w all outlets, extension cords, or
integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of
fire or electric shock.
19. O bject and Liquid Entry N ever push objects of any kind into
this product through openings as they m ay touch dangerous
voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or
electric shock. N ever spill liquid of any kind on the product.
20. Servicing D o not attem pt to service this product yourself as
opening or rem oving covers m ay expose you to dangerous
voltage or other hazards. R efer all servicing to qualified
service personnel.
21. D am age R equiring Service U nplug this product from the
w all outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel
under the follow ing conditions:
a) W hen the pow er-supply cord or plug is dam aged,
b) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the
product,
c) If the product has been exposed to rain or w ater,
d) If the product does not operate norm ally by follow ing the
operating instructions. A djust only those controls that are
covered by the operating instructions as an im proper
adjustm ent of other controls m ay result in dam age and w ill
often require extensive w ork by a qualified technician to
restore the product to its norm al operation,

1 FEATURES
1. Digital transfer connectors
The D VD -3910 can be connected to another digital transfer
com patible D enon com ponent (AV am plifier, etc.) using a
single cable (included) for high quality digital sound w ith little
transfer loss.
(1) D enon Link term inal
This term inal can be used for digital transfer of not only
D VD video signals, but also m ulti-channel audio signals of
D VD audio.
(2) IEEE 1394 term inal
This term inal can be used for digital transfer of not only
D VD video signals, but also D VD audio signals, Super
A udio C D signals and other m ulti-channel audio signals.
D igital transfer of video signals is possible by connecting an
H D C P com patible display device equipped w ith one of the
connectors below using a special cable.
W hen playing D VD A U D IO w ith C PPM , the video signal cannot
be output, and then the audio signal cannot be output from the
H D M I connector too.
(3) H D M I connector
D igital video signals are transferred in color space (Y/C b/C r)
or R G B .
The audio signals can be transferred sim ultaneously, so
both audio and video signals can be transferred w ith a
single cable.
(4) D VI-D connector
D igital video signals are transferred in R G B .

2. Super Audio CD multi-channel playback compatibility
In addition to playing D VD audio and video discs, the D VD -
3910 can play m ulti-channel Super A udio C D s w ith a playback
frequency range covering 100 kH z and a dynam ic range of 120
dB or greater w ithin the audible frequency range, and a
m axim um of 5.1 channels can be output.
3. AL24 Processing Plus at all channel
A L24 Processing Plus com pensates the input digital data to
reproduce the sound w ith analog w aveform s as close as
possible to those existing in nature and w ith 24-bit quality. The
result is increased m usical reproduction capabilities of
reverberations, etc., at low levels, for a sound that seem s to
draw you into the concert hall.
Equipped for not only the left and right channels but also for
the front left and right, the surround left and right, center and
subw oofer channels.
4. High precision 24-bit D/A converter
The audio playback circuit includes an advanced segm ent type
D /A converter w ith the high technical specifications in the
business, m anufactured by B urr-B row n, a com pany w ith an
established reputation for D /A converters. This high
perform ance D /A converter allow s not only input of the 24-
bit/192 kH z data of D VD -A udio discs, it also includes an analog
pure FIR filter for ideal D SD playback of Super A udio C D s.
Furtherm ore, the sam e D A C is used unsparingly for the front,
the surround, center and LFE channels to provide optim um
sound quality during m ulti-channel playback as w ell.
5. HDCD

(High Definition Compatible Digital

) decoder
(NOTE 1)
H D C D is an encoding/decoding technology that greatly
reduces the distortion occurring at the tim e of digital recording
w hile m aintaining com patibility w ith the conventional C D
form at. H D C D allow s 20-bit data to be converted into the 16-
bit data of current C D s w ith no loss in sound quality.
The use of this H D C D decoder m akes it possible to achieve
the high resolution and low distortion characteristic of H D C D
w hen playing H D C D -com patible discs, and D EN O N s digital
technology optim izes the high sound quality possibilities of
H D C D technology. Furtherm ore, norm al C D s and H D C D -
com patible C D s are autom atically identified, and the optim um
digital signal processing for that type of disc is used.
6. Dolby Digital/DTS decoder (NOTE 2, 3)
The D VD -3910 is equipped w ith a built-in D olby D igital/D TS
decoder, allow ing you to recreate the atm osphere of a m ovie
theater or concert hall w hen using the D VD -3910 in
com bination w ith an AV am plifier and speakers.
7. Progressive Scan circuit DCDi
TM
(NOTE 4)
The D VD -3910 is equipped w ith a high precision Progressive
Scan circuit D C D i allow ing it to reproduce m ovies and
other im ages on D VD s w ith a quality near that of the original.
8. Newly developed video processing circuit
The differences in brightness and color level betw een adjacent
picture elem ents in the horizontal, vertical and diagonal
directions are detected to adjust the contours. The brightness
signal and color signal are processed separately, resulting in
natural, clear im ages.
9. 12-bit/216 MHz video D/A converter (NOTE 5)
The D VD -3910 uses a video D /A converter that conducts D /A
conversion of all video signals at 12 bits and allow s 8X
oversam pling in the progressive m ode to achieve the high
quality picture that D VD s are m eant to provide. In addition,
N SV technology reduces noise upon D /A conversion.
10. Thorough vibration-resistant design
(1) M echanism using a hybrid loader.
(2) The pickup m echanism is positioned at the center to
reduce the effects of external vibrations.
(3) A heavyw eight chassis and low center of gravity m ake for
a low vibration design.
11. Multiple functions
(1) Still picture playback function
Kodak Picture C D (NOTE 6) and Fujifilm Fujicolor C D
(NOTE 7) can be played on the D VD -3910.
Still im ages stored in JPEG form at on C D -R /R W s can also
be played.
(2) W indow s M edia playback function (NOTE 8)
W indow s M edia C D s can be played on the D VD -3910.
(3) M ultiple audio function
Selection of up to 8 audio languages.
(The num ber of languages offered differs from D VD to
D VD .)
(4) M ultiple subtitle function
Selection of up to 32 subtitle languages.

(5) M ultiple angle function
The angle of view can be changed.
(For D VD s on w hich m ultiple angles are recorded.)
(6) G U I (G raphical U ser Interface) function
The D ISPLAY button on the rem ote control unit can be
used to display player and disc inform ation on the TV
screen.
(7) M arker function
The positions of up to five scenes can be stored in the
m em ory, so you can w atch your favourite scenes
w henever you w ant.
(8) Playback disable function
This function can be used to disable playback of D VD s you
do not w ant children to w atch.

3 CAUTIONS ON HANDLING DISCS
Discs
O nly the discs including the m arks show n on page 8 can be
played on the D VD -3910.
N ote, how ever, that discs w ith special shapes (heart-shaped discs,
hexagonal discs, etc.) cannot be played on the D VD -3910. D o not
attem pt to play such discs, as they m ay dam age the player.
Cautions on Handling Discs
D o not get fingerprints, grease or dirt on discs.
B e especially careful not to scratch discs w hen rem oving them
from their cases.
D o not bend discs.
D o not heat discs.
D o not enlarge the center hole.
D o not w rite on the labeled (printed) side w ith a ball-point pen
or a pencil.
W ater droplets m ay form on the surface if the disc is m oved
suddenly from a cold place to a w arm one. D o not use a
hairdryer, etc., to dry the disc.
Cautions on Storing Discs
A lw ays eject discs after playing them .
Keep discs in their cases to protect them from dust, scratches
and w arping.
D o not put discs in the follow ing places:
1. Places exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of tim e
2. H um id or dusty places
3. Places exposed to heat from heaters, etc.
Cautions on Loading Discs
O nly load one disc at a tim e. Loading one disc on top of another
m ay result in dam age or scratch the discs.
Load 8 cm discs securely in the disc guide, w ithout using an
adapter. If the disc is not properly loaded, it m ay slip out of the
guide and block the disc tray.
B e careful not to let your fingers get caught w hen the disc tray
is closing.
D o not place anything but discs in the disc tray.
D o not load cracked or w arped discs or discs that have been
fixed w ith adhesive, etc.
D o not use discs on w hich the adhesive part of cellophane tape
or glue used to attach the label is exposed, or discs w ith traces
of tape or labels that have been peeled off. Such discs m ay get
stuck inside the player, resulting in dam age.
Holding Discs
Avoid touching the surface of discs w hen loading and unloading
them .
Cleaning Discs

A m ong the devices that support IEEE 1394, w hen the pow er is in the standby m ode or off, som e devices are not able to relay
data. Please see the operation m anual of the connected device that supports IEEE 1394. This unit is not able to relay the IEEE
1394 data w hile in the standby m ode.
D evices that support IEEE 1394 have the m axim um data transfer speed supported by that device m arked in the vicinity of the
IEEE 1394 connector. The m axim um transfer speed of IEEE 1394 is defined as approxim ately 100/200/400 M bps*, w ith 200
M bps item s having S200 inscribed and 400 M bps item s having S400 inscribed. The m axim um IEEE 1394 data transfer speed of
this unit is 400 M bps. The actual transfer speed m ay be slow er than 400 M bps w hen S100 or S200 devices are connected, or
depending on the specifications of the device. Try to ensure that connections are m ade betw een devices that have the sam e
m axim um data transfer speed.
* M bps (M ega bps) is an abbreviation of M ega bits per secondand indicates the volum e of data that can be com m unicated in 1

The audio signals from the H D M I connector (including the

6 REMOTE CONTROL UNIT
2 The D VD -3910 can be controlled from a distance using the included rem ote control unit (R C -972).
(1) Inserting Batteries
R em ove the rem ote control units rear cover.
Place tw o R 6P/A A batteries in the battery com partm ent in the
direction indicated by the m arks.
C lose the rear cover.
Cautions On Batteries
U se R 6P/A A batteries in this rem ote control unit.
R eplace the batteries w ith new ones approxim ately once
a year, though this depends on the frequency w ith w hich
the rem ote control unit is used.
If the rem ote control unit does not operate from close to
the m ain unit, replace the batteries w ith new ones, even
if less than a year has passed.
The included battery is only for verifying operation.
R eplace it w ith a new battery as soon as possible.
W hen inserting the batteries, be careful to do so in the
proper direction, follow ing the < and > m arks in the
rem ote control units battery com partm ent.
To prevent dam age or battery fluid leakage:
D o not use a new battery w ith an old one.
D o not use tw o different types of batteries.
D o not short-circuit, disassem ble, heat or dispose of
batteries in flam es.
R em ove the batteries w hen not planning to use the
rem ote control unit for a long period of tim e.
If the batteries should leak, carefully w ipe off the fluid
from the inside of the battery com partm ent, then insert
new batteries.
(2) Using the Remote Control Unit
W hen operating the rem ote control unit, point it at the
rem ote control sensor as show n on the diagram .
The rem ote control unit can be used from a direct
distance of approxim ately 7 m eters. This distance w ill
be shorter, how ever, if there are obstacles in the w ay
or if the rem ote control unit is not pointed directly at
the rem ote control sensor.
The rem ote control unit can be operated at a horizontal
angle of up to 30 w ith respect to the rem ote control
sensor.
NOTES:
It m ay be difficult to operate the rem ote control unit
if the rem ote control sensor is exposed to direct
sunlight or strong artificial light.
D o not press buttons on the m ain unit and on the
rem ote control unit at the sam e tim e. D oing so w ill
result in m alfunction.

Listening to MP3 CD, CD-Rs and CD-RWs
2 There are m any m usic distribution sites on the internet from w hich m usic files in M P3 form at can be dow nloaded. M usic dow nloaded
as instructed on the site and w ritten onto a C D -R /R W disc can be played on the D VD -3910.
If m usic recorded on com m ercially available m usic C D s is converted on a com puter into M P3 files using an M P3 encoder (conversion
softw are), the data on a 12 cm C D is reduced into about 1/10 the am ount of the original data. Thus, w hen w ritten in M P3 form at, the
data of about 10 m usic C D s can fit onto the one C D -R /R W disc. The one C D -R /R W disc can contain over 100 tracks.
Values w hen 5-m inute tracks are converted w ith a standard bit rate of 128 kbps into M P3 files and using a C D -R /R W disc w ith a
capacity of 650 M B .
Uses of recordings you have made other than for your personal enjoyment are not permitted under the Copyright Law
without permission of the copyright holder.

NOTES:
The D VD -3910 is com patible w ith the M PEG -1 A udio Layer 3standards (sam pling frequency of 44.1 or 48 kH z). It is not
com patible w ith such other standards as M PEG -2 A udio Layer 3, M PEG -2.5 A udio Layer 3, M P1, M P2, etc.
It m ay not be possible to play som e C D -R /R W discs due to disc properties, dirt, w arping, etc.
The digital signals output w hen playing M P3 files are M P3 signals converted into PC M , regardless of w hether the audio output
presetting is set to norm alor PC M . The signals are output w ith the sam e sam pling frequency as that of the m usic source.
In general, the higher an M P3 files bit rate, the better the sound quality. O n the D VD -3910, w e recom m end using M P3 files
recorded w ith bit rates of 128 kbps or greater.
M P3 files m ay not be played in the expected order, since the w riting softw are m ay change the position of the folders and the
order of the files w hen w riting them on the C D -R /R W .
Program m ed playback are not possible w ith M P3 discs.
W hen w riting M P3 files on C D -R /R W discs, select ISO 9660 level 1as the w riting softw are form at. This m ay not be possible
w ith som e types of w riting softw are. For details, refer to the w riting softw ares usage instructions.
The num ber of files playable w ith the D VD -3910 is approxim ately 600 or less.
W ith the D VD -3910 it is possible to display folder nam es and file nam es on the screen like titles. The D VD -3910 can display up
to 8 characters, consisting of num bers, capital letters, and the _(underscore) m ark.
If recorded in a form at other than ISO 9660 level 1, norm al display and playback m ay not be possible. In addition, folder and file
nam es including other sym bols w ill not be displayed properly.
B e sure to add the extension .M P3to M P3 files. Files cannot be played if they have any extension other than .M P3or if they
have no extension. (w ith M acintosh com puters, M P3 files can be played by adding the extension .M P3after the file nam e
consisting of up to 8 capital or num bers and recording the files on the C D -R /R W .)
D o not apply stickers, tape, etc., to either the label side or the signal side of C D -R /R W discs. If adhesive gets on the surface of
a disc, the disc m ay get stuck inside the D VD -3910 and be im possible to eject.
The D VD -3910 is not com patible w ith packet w rite softw are.
The D VD -3910 is not com patible w ith ID 3-Tag.
The D VD -3910 is not com patible w ith play lists.
The D VD -3910 is not com patible w ith M P3 PR O .

W hile in the stop condition, the D ISPLAY button of the rem ote control can be used to sw itch and display the title nam es and the
artist nam es. (O ne folder has a capacity of up to 99 files.)
R ecorded discs w ith no m ore than 99 files per folder are recom m ended. M ultiple folder configurations are possible; how ever,
depending on the configuration, recognition and playback of all the folders and files m ight not be possible.
M ulti-session discs can also be played back, how ever, playback of discs that have had session closure w ithin 10 sessions.
D irect track selection using the rem ote control num erical keys (0 to 9, and + 10) can specify up to 179 tracks (179 files) per folder.
W hen 179 tracks are exceeded, w hile the unit is stopped, use the cursor buttons at the disc inform ation screen to select the

you w ant to start the slide show , then press the
PLAY button or the EN TER button on the rem ote

The slide show starts.

To view several of the still pictures stored on the disc at once:
To select and view a still picture (to start the slide show from a specific still picture), use the cursor buttons (, , 0 and 1) to
select the desired still picture, then press the EN TER button.
To tem porarily stop the slide show :
Press the STILL/PA U SE button.
To resum e the slide show , press the PLAY button.
To cue a still picture you w ant to view (from w hich you w ant to start the slide show ):
D uring the slide show , press one of the SKIP (8, 9) buttons. Press the SKIP 8button to cue back to the previous still
picture, the SKIP 9button to cue ahead to the next still picture.
Flipping and rotating still pictures:
U se the cursor buttons (, , 0 and 1) to flip the still picture.
cursor button: The currently displayed still picture is flipped vertically.
cursor button: The currently displayed still picture is flipped horizontally.
0 cursor button: The currently displayed still picture is rotate 90 counterclockw ise.
1 cursor button: The currently displayed still picture is rotate 90 clockw ise.
Play the im age in the zoom m ode.
W hen the ZO O M button is pressed w hile playing a JPEG im age (ZO O M O N is displayed on the screen at this tim e) zoom in
and zoom out using the search keys.

W hen the im age is zoom ed, use the cursor buttons (, , 0 and 1) to m ove the zoom ed picture.
C ontinuous playback (SLID E SH O W ) is not possible in the zoom m ode.
Zoom ing is not possible w ith files that have a low resolution.
The w ay of sw itching to the next im age during continuous JPEG im age playback (SLID E SH O W ) can be selected.

It m ay not be possible to play som e C D -R s/R W s due to disc properties, dirt, scratches, etc.
W hen storing JPEG files on the C D -R /R W , set the w riting program to store the files in the ISO 9660 level 1form at.
B e sure to give JPEG files the extension .JPG and .JPE. Files w ith other extensions or w ith no extensions cannot be view ed
on the D VD -3910.
D o not apply stickers, tape, etc., to either the label side or the signal side of C D -R /R W discs. If adhesive gets on the surface of
a disc, the disc m ay get stuck inside the D VD -3910 and be im possible to eject.
D o not play C D -R /R W discs containing any files other than m usic C D files (in C D D A form at), W M A , M P3 and JPEG files. D oing
so m ay result in m alfunction or dam age, depending on the type of file.
JPEG files w ritten using M acintosh com puters cannot be played.
