In our documentary entitled The generation of communication we covered the topic of
the current day generations relationship with their mobile phones and how theyve become reliant on them. Our group interviewed students inside the college asking them multiple questions about their mobile phones. These questions ranged from simple questions such as Tell me about your current mobile phone to personal questions such as How many text messages you send a day we received mostly relevant and appropriate answers from the students we interviewed. For the final documentary I think the group should carefully pick a more diverse group for questioning to get a range of different and appropriate responses as some responses we got were inappropriate and could not use for the final cut. The mise-en-scene we used throughout the documentary included both mobile phones and other items and places commonly associated with mobile phones. The use of a range of mobile phones were essential as we could represent that different types of people have different mobile phones, sometimes Iphones were too common and outnumber other phones on the documentary so if I was to film again I would film a wider variety. We filmed interviewees in front of a container representing the urban environment in which we were filming so the audience gets the idea of the demographic we were filming. If filming again we would film in a range of environments which werent urban therefore get a wider ranger of opinions and answers. When filming we used high key lighting (due to being outside) and the camera holding was shaky which made some of the interviews look over-saturated and aesthetically unpleasing. Given the chance to film again I would keep the camera steadily on the tripod and film in an indoor location to prevent the saturation and make the picture quality significantly better. When editing the interviews we used straight cuts for every cut representing pace and speed in the development and changing of technology and mobile phones in particular, next time in the full finished documentary I will want to use more types of cut to show a range of different editing techniques in which suit the genre of documentary. The graphics in which we used for both the title and graphics of interviewees names was a silver font with silver being a colour being associated with technology. The font was generic and used for both the title and names and next time I would use two different fonts and use fonts which are genre appropriate and stand out catching the audiences attention. The cutaways we used included students using their mobile phones whilst sat down socialising with peers, students walking around conversing on their mobile phones and sat texting their friends. The cutaways were relevant but sometimes looked unprofessional as students laughed whilst being filmed and looked at the camera. Next time i would get better quality cutaways and more of them as when editing we realised we lacked enough cutaways for the amounts of interviews we held.
